The Weekly Drugstore Makeup Sales for 6/12 - 6/18

Since I did a little summertime makeover of this blog, I thought I'd introduce a new, more colorful Weekly Makeup Sales logo too! I hope the changes to the blog aren't too jarring for any of you--I just wanted to lighten things up a bit and make things a bit more colorful because, well, makeup products are all about color and fun, right?

I have just updated my weekly drugstore makeup sales post, which you can view here (definitely give it a scan since there are lots and lots of great deals this week that I'm NOT going to cover in this post). As always, the link to this post is always available for your reference at the top of this blog (right above the newest blog post).

My picks for the top three sales this week:

CVS: Maybelline Falsies mascara $5 and if you spend $15 on Maybelline you get $5 Extra Bucks

RITE AID: Jesse's Girl and Bonne Bell products BOGO1/2OFF and if you spend $10 you get $3 +UP Rewards

WALGREENS: Maybelline foundation, eyeshadow, lip and nail cosmetics 40% off

Of course there are OTHER Maybelline products also on sale this week at CVS to help get you to $15, but the Falsies deal is my favorite.

As for my Rite Aid pick, well you Rite Aid shoppers out there KNOW that Jesse's Girl sales don't come around too often, so this is a GREAT time to pick up some of their new polishes, Mineralized Baked eyeshadows or, one of my personal favorites, their eyeshadow primer. And throwing Bonne Bell into the mix makes it so easy to hit $10 to get the $3 +UP Rewards, doesn't it? This is such a fun sale!

As for the Maybelline sale at Wags, I'm sort of bummed that it's only foundation, eyeshadow, lip and nail products because that means I can't stock up on my beloved eyebrow pencil, but it's still a great sale and we don't see too many 40% off sales at the drugstore these days, huh?

Other items of note:
  • In the CVS circular this week, the sale for CoverGirl NatureLuxe Mascara and Intense Shadowblast (the one I just reviewed) contains a typo (I believe it's a typo--I asked CVS on Twitter to confirm but I have not heard back from them yet). In the ad, the text says that Smoky Shadowblast is on sale, though the image in the ad is of Intense Shadowblast. Again, I'm pretty sure that's a typo and that Intense Shadowblast is the product that's on sale, but if I hear differently I'll let you know.
  • Attn: Garnier skincare fans! CVS is running their "lowest price of the year" on ALL Garnier cleansers and Moisture Rescue skincare--they're $4.99 each this week!
  • FREEBIE ALERT FOR FATHER'S DAY! At Walgreens, the new Blistex RPM for Men Lip Balm is $2 with $2 Register Rewards. That could be a nice "stalking stuffer" for the dad in your life!
  • Speaking of Wags, I want to remind you Walgreens shoppers about the Summer Beauty Guide that's now available in-store. There are lots of beauty coupons in this guide which can be combined with manufacturer's coupons! Click here to see the full list of coupons in this guide and don't forget to grab one the next time you're at Wags.
  • And finally, something I did NOT mention in my drugstore beauty sales post because it has absolutely nothing to do with beauty: in Rite Aid's weekly ad for 6/12 - 6/18, there's a coupon for an iTunes gift card. You can get a $25 iTunes gift card for $20 if you use that coupon, so that's like getting five $0.99-songs for free. I just wanted to mention that since it would make a nice last-minute Father's Day gift, or heck, a nice treat for yourself even!
Thanks for reading, and if you know of any good unadvertised sales going on this week, or any good coupon match-ups, please share in the comments!

Odds 'n' Ends

I've got lots of little tidbits to share with you today, so I hope you'll take a minute to scan through this post. As always, I don't want you to miss out on anything!
  • My pal Tara let me know that she spotted the same four Essie A French Affair polishes that are on clearance at CVS also on clearance at Walgreens for 50% off! Tara also spotted some of the Revlon mini-polish sets I posted about a few weeks ago at her local Big Lots for just $2. Thanks for the scoop, Tara! PS: Many of you have been kind enough to let me know that you've spotted several of the products on clearance at CVS also on clearance at Walgreens and Rite Aid lately, so be sure to check ALL of the drugstores for your favorites!
  • More polish news: the lovely Patty spotted a bin of Revlon Top Speed polish in the shade Royal (which I reviewed here) on clearance for $2.48 each. Sounds like they might be discontinuing this shade? At any rate, if you love this color, check your local Target for it on clearance. Thanks for the heads-up, Patty!
  • One more bit of polish news! There's a new Sinful Colors collection that a few of you have spotted at Walgreens lately, and it seems to be similar to the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean collection. It's called Adventure Island and you can see pics of it on Wendy's blog here. My pal T-Rex said that there were a few colors she hasn't seen before and that "most were murky pastels, including a very dirty light green and a greenish tan." I am ALL over this and can't wait to see them in person! Thanks T-Rex and Wendy!
  • The Bath and Body Works Semi-Annual sale starts TODAY (in-store and online). There are lots of fan-favorites on deep clearance (Twisted Peppermint hand soap for $1.25, and the Blushing Mimosa hand soap which I LOVE and reviewed here for $1.25 too!). As always, BBW runs special weekly sales too, so be sure to check in once a week and see what the weekly special is for that week. This week they're kicking things off with $3 Signature Collection Classics. Whoo hoo!
  • My kind reader Poochie left a comment on my You Tell Me post giving us the heads-up that there are NEW Maybelline products being spotted at Walgreens. The names are: Eye Studio Liquid Liner Pen, Explosive Eye Shadows and Falsies Flared. Exciting! Has anyone seen these in person yet? Thanks for the heads-up, Poochie!
  • Thanks to Musleha for the heads-up that Ulta has a Smashbox lipgloss duo on sale for just $10 right now. You can see swatches of these glosses on Mushleha's blog here. (The $5 sale she also mentions in her post doesn't seem to be available anymore, but $10 for 2 Smashbox glosses is still a pretty great deal!).
Whew! That's it for this installment of Odds 'n' Ends. Did I miss anything? Do you have any beauty tidbits you'd like to share? Please please let us know!

John Frieda webcast update

Remember last Tuesday when I posted about the John Frieda webcast opportunity? Well today's the day! If you haven't watched the John Frieda Full Repair webcast yet, it's now up on the John Frieda Facebook page--click here to view it. At the end of the webcast, Harry Josh will mention a code, which you need to enter into the form at the bottom page in order to be eligible for a chance to win the Grand Prize Giveaway (a trip to NY for a style session with Harry Josh).

Regarding the free full-size John Frieda product I mentioned in my original post, my contact at John Frieda confirmed that once you signed up to ASK A QUESTION for the webcast (which many of you did last week), you were then presented with the option of choosing between one of two John Frieda Full Repair products, and then you were asked to submit your shipping address. I asked my contact to confirm this, and she explained to me that this is how you were able to obtain the product. So hopefully everyone got a chance to get their product!

Good luck to those of you who entered for the Grand Prize, and I'd love to know what you think of your John Frieda product once you receive it in the mail!

Review: Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lipstick in Pink Freeze

Given my love of the original Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick collection, it was only a matter of time before I tried one of the new High Shine lipsticks (click here for pics of the display if you missed it). When Rite Aid had Maybelline on sale for 40% off, it was a great time for me to use one of my $1 tear-pad coupons (from the Bright Side limited edition display). I think I ended up paying just $3 for this tube.

Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Lipstick in Pink Freeze
(retail: around $7)

As you can see, the packaging has some fun holographic details, even down to the label itself, which I photographed from two different angles:

Pink Freeze was a bit of a departure for me. I normally don't go for light pinks (as many of you know, I'm more of a pinky-brown and berry kind of gal), but something drew me to this shade and I had to try it.

According to the Maybelline website, this new formula contains "mirror-like color from micro-mirror pigments". So the "high shine" in this lipstick is not from the finish, but rather it's inside the formula itself. Don't get me wrong, it's got a glossy finish, but what REALLY makes it shine is the "micro-mirror pigments" in the formula. In person, I find that when the light catches my lips, this lipstick truly shines, but NOT in a glittery sort of way. The particles are very fine and you cannot see individual particles on the lips. All you really see is "shine", and lots of it. I think it's pretty unique in that aspect, as I can't think of another drugstore lipstick that has a formula quite like this.

I find the texture of this lipstick to be creamy, yet also sheer (the sheerness may be in part to the shade I purchased--other shades may be more opaque). It's not gritty at all, and those of you would don't care for the fragrance or flavor of the original Color Sensational lipsticks might be pleased to know that the flavor and fragrance of the High Shine lipsticks is different. To my nose, the fragrance of this lipstick has a light, fruity note to it (I think I detect peach and watermelon) and the flavor is light and fruity as well.

This lipstick feels creamy, yet light and moisturizing on my lips, and I find the staying power to be pretty close to the staying power of the original Color Sensational lipsticks (I can get about 2-3 hours of wear before I need to reapply). The only thing I'm actually disappointed in is the shade I chose--it's just too light for me, and I'm considering exchanging it for a deeper shade.

FINAL VERDICT: Maybelline isn't lying when they say that this lipstick is "high shine". But the shine isn't in the finish, it's in the "micro-mirror particles". These particles are very fine (no chunky glitter or sparkle here) and create a shine that is definitely visible to the naked eye. Pink Freeze is a pretty, light, sheer pink that's high on shine, and I enjoy the creaminess of the formula quite a bit. The fruity fragrance and flavor make it even more enjoyable for me to wear, and I'd certainly consider trying other shades in the future. If you're already a fan of Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks and you like your lip color on the shiny side, I think you might enjoy the new High Shines as well.

Have you tried any of the new Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine lipsticks yet? What do you think of them?

Spotted at Bed Bath & Beyond: new products from Sula!

Remember back in April when I freaked out after seeing Sula Paint & Peel polishes at Big Lots? It was so surprising to see this adorable boutique brand's products at Big Lots, and for such a great price (these polishes normally retail for $10 and Big Lots had them for just $2.50).

Well now I understand why those polishes were surfacing at Big Lots: they got a makeover! Thanks to my dear friend Kimberly, who spotted the newly-redesigned (and now double-ended) Sula Paint & Peel polishes at BB&B, we can now see what the new packaging looks like!

image credit for all of the following photos: Kimberly for Nouveau Cheap

As you can see, these newly- redesigned polishes come with a Paint & Peel Nail Color on one end, and a Lasting Love Top Coat on the other. Here's a closer look at some of the bottles:

Kimberly also spotted this new, super-cute Sula display for their Organic Shea Butter Balm:

Sula Organic Shea Butter Balm in Rose Damascena, Bergamot and Neroli Blossom

I love Sula's fragrances so much (I reviewed some of their roll-ons a few years ago) so I have a feeling these shea butters probably smell pretty wonderful. I can't wait to see them in person!

Have you spotted these new Sula goodies at your local Bed Bath and Beyond? Have you tried anything? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks again to Kimberly for the great scoop and pics!

The Wednesday Question

I've got two-part question for you this week, my lovelies, so I hope you'll take a minute to leave your answer in the comments. I can't wait to see your responses!

Is there a drugstore makeup brand that you tend to gravitate toward above all others?
If so, what's the brand and why are you drawn to it?

For many years I was always drawn to Max Factor because I wore their Pan Stick foundation and mascara religiously. Then I was drawn to L'Oreal for a few years, and then switched over to Maybelline. Now, I seem to be drawn equally to a handful of drugstore brands that always seem to capture my attention, but I don't have one particular brand that I tend to favor above all others--I really love certain products from a variety of brands. What about you?

Spotted at Rite Aid: new products and monthly sales

Lots of things to share with my fellow Rite Aid shoppers today, so let's get started!

First off, my lovely reader Sephiria spotted some new displays at her Rite Aid and was kind enough to share them with us:

image credit: Sephiria for Nouveau Cheap
Demeter Roll On Perfume Oils
(retail: $4.99 each)

I've shown you several Demeter displays at Rite Aid over the past year or so, but I freaked OUT when I saw this pic, because I had no idea Demeter even made roll-ons! Wow wow wow! And you sure can't beat that price, right? Super affordable and, potentially, better staying-power than their traditional scents since the carrier is oil-based. From what I can see looking at this pic, it appears that the  scents in this display are Pure Soap, Baby Powder and Honeysuckle. Yay!

Next up, Sephiria also spotted these new MINI L.A. Colors Color Craze polish sets for just $2.99 each:

image credit: Sephiria for Nouveau Cheap
L.A. Colors Color Craze Mini Bright 5-pack mini polish sets
(retail: $2.99)

The sets above contain bright shades, while this set contains glitters:

image credit: Sephiria for Nouveau Cheap
L.A. Colors Color Craze Mini Glitter 5-pack mini polish sets
(retail: $2.99)

How fun are these? Thanks again, Sephiria, for the heads-up!
Next, I wanted to show you some things I spotted on my last Rite Aid trip:

Mr. Bubble Body Washes (fragrance and dye-free on left, original on right)
(retail: 3.49)

I spotted these new Mr. Bubble body washes and I just think they're so fun--I love bubble-gum scented products so I know I'll eventually have to pick one of these up!

I showed you the new Mr. Bubble hand soaps a while back but in case you missed it, here they are again:

Mr. Bubble Moisturizing Hand Soaps
(retail: $2.99)

And next, I want to bring to your attention some MONTH-LONG SALES that I just discovered the other day. I don't know if these monthly sales are regional, and I don't know if they're new (or if I just never noticed them before) but I don't recall seeing these in any of the weekly circulars, so I just want to bring them to your attention (note: these sales run from 6/1 - 6/28 according to the tags on the shelves):

Remember when I showed you the new Organix skincare and body care products a while back? Well they're on sale this month for $7.49 and $5.99 (regular price: $9.99 and $7.99).

All of the Yes To products are also on sale this month (6/1 - 6/28)!

Another month-long sale that I spotted was for EcoTools bath and body products--they're $3.99 with $1 +UP Reward (regular price: $5.99) so that's a great deal as well!

I want to remind you that I live in a Rite Aid test market, so if this is a new program for Rite Aid, you might not see these sales in your area. Check for the yellow tags above the next time you're at Rite Aid, and please please let me know if you spot these sales!

Spotted in Canada: New L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadows (possible Armani dupes!)

My wonderful Canadian reader Andrea just sent me some pics of the new L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadows that she purchased recently, and let's just say that I'm REALLY hoping these make their way to the US--soon!

According to Andrea, these shadows are a hybrid, "like the Armani Eyes to Kill shadows". Indeed, these might be QUITE the dupe, since the packaging looks rather similar, right down to the inner black lid (check out Nea's review of the L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Purple Passion, and then check out Elvira's review of Armani Eyes to Kill #44.).

Andrea describes the L'Oreal Infallible shadows as sort of like loose pigments, but she said they apply like a pressed shadow. She said that the texture is "like that of brown sugar, or slightly wet sand". She said they're loose, but "when pressure is applied with a brush or finger it comes together."

Color me intrigued!

Andrea said they wear quite well for her (she used them over a MAC Paint Pot) and lasted around ten hours before slight creasing. She also said that the pigmentation is "incredible" and that they work best for her when "patted on". This is her initial impression (so far she's only tried two of the shades she purchased) but they sound pretty great so far, don't they?

Note: I believe these shadows hit Europe a few months ago. In Canada, L'Oreal has released 12 shades which, according to Andrea, is more than have been released in Europe. So who knows how many we'll get if/when these release in the US!

(image credit for all of the following photos: Andrea for Nouveau Cheap)

L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadows

The shades that have been released in Canada are:

All Night Blue
Purple Obsession
Endless Chocolate
Time Resist White
Burning Black
Eternal Black
Flashback Silver
Permanent Khaki
Hourglass Beige
Forever Pink
Blue Curacao
Pebble Grey

Andrea has spotted these shadows anywhere from between $8.97 and $12.99 CDN.  Also of note, Andrea pointed out that the products themselves (on the pots below) say: L'oreal Paris Color Infaillible, but on the display and website it's spelled Infallible (without the second 'i').

 Flashback Silver

 Permanent Khaki

All Night Blue and Hourglass Beige

 Purple Obsession and Eternal Black

If you're in Europe or Canada, have you tried these new L'Oreal shadows yet? I'd love to hear what you think of them. I cannot wait for them to make their way to the US!

Thanks again, Andrea, for the great info, insights and pics!

PLEASE NOTE: WE'RE DOING THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY FOR THIS GIVEAWAY, AND THERE IS A SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR ENTRY, SO PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY:

1. Giveaway open to residents of US and Canada, 18 and over. Void where prohibited.

2. One entry per person. To enter, you must "like" Palladio Beauty on their Facebook page. Once there, you will need to leave a comment on the Palladio Beauty Facebook wall, saying something like this:

"Hi, I'm here from Nouveau Cheap's blog -- I am entering the giveaway for your Herbal Eyeshadow Quads."

After you have done that, just come back here, leave a comment on this post, let me know you've "liked" them, and you're entered.

3. You do NOT need to leave you email address in your comment, BUT, when I announce the winner on this blog on Friday, June 10th, you MUST email me and/or respond in the comments on my post within 24 hours of the announcement or I will select another winner. Sorry, but absolutely no exceptions.

4. This giveaway begins today and ends Thursday, June 9th, 2011 at 11:59PM Pacific. I will select one winner via random.org and announce the winner HERE on this blog on June 10th. Reminder: Urban Decay on Haute Look NOW

I want to thank the always-lovely sabrinaj99 for leaving a reminder on the You Tell Me page about Urban Decay being on Haute Look today!

As of 8:18AM Pacific, I spotted lots of matte eyeshadows for $5, tinted moisturizers for $10, Pocket Rockets for $5, an Ink for Eyes for $5, lots of cream eyeshadows for $8, Transforming Potion for $5, Big Fatty Waterproof mascara for $10, and the Wallpaper Shadow Box for $10. Wow wow wow! I would hurry because I know that Wallpaper Shadow Box will sell out any minute now.

Click here to go to Haute Look.

Just a reminder: Haute Look is a members-only shopping site. You must be a member to view the sale. Membership is free so if even if you're not interested in this sale, it's a good idea to join because you never know what other beauty-related sales they may run in the future.

Did you purchase any Urban Decay products on Haute Look today? I bought the matte eyeshadow in Chronic during the last sale and I love it (their mattes are so buttery soft and awesome to work with).

Rite Aid shoppers: check out the June Single Check Rebates!

One of the things I love the most about Rite Aid is that, in addition to their sales and Wellness+ program, they offer lots of other great ways to save on beauty products, such as their Video Values coupons (which can be stacked with manufacturer's coupons) and their Single Check Rebate program, which sometimes doesn't get enough love from me on this blog.

If you're unfamiliar with the Single Check Rebate program, it's pretty simple. After you sign up, you just have to make a qualifying purchase, enter your receipt onto the website and then, at the end of each month, you log into your account, request your check and you're done! Rite Aid will tally all of your qualifying purchases and send you ONE single check containing all of your rebates for the month. You can then take that check and use it as store credit at your local Rite Aid, or you can deposit it straight into your bank account like any other check.

If you haven't tried the Single Check Rebate program yet, this month might be a nice time to do it because they've got some fantastic offers I want to make sure you know about (click here for the full list of June Single Check Rebate offers):

NOTE: Some of these rebates require that you make your purchase during a very specific time period (sometimes you only have a few days to take advantage of a deal) so read the details carefully.

Remember the new got2b dry shampoo I reviewed here (and loved)? You can get it for about $1 after this rebate!

The Lipstick League - week of 5.30.11

The Sixth Annual Surf Dog Competition was held yesterday here in San Diego (at Imperial Beach if you're in SD) and I just love the pic of this bulldog. Look at his intensity!  While he didn't place (the winner of the Small Dog competition went to an Australian Kelpie named Abbie Girl) I think this guy should have won an award for stone-cold determination!

Lipstick League Question of the Week:

You’re running late and only have time to apply ONE makeup product to your face (after you’ve applied your skincare, of course). What’s it going to be?

G's Answer: This is my worst nightmare! It's really a toss-up between powder foundation and eyebrow pencil. Hum...I think I'm going to have to go with eyebrow pencil. At the very least, people would be able to see my eyes (and hopefully that would draw attention away from my skin imperfections).

Links of the Week:
