If you're a long-time reader of this blog, you know that I have a bit of an obsession with dry shampoos. I've reviewed many dry shampoos in the past few years, including those from Batiste, Suave, Pssssst, Salon Grafix and TRESemme. My favorite on the higher end of the price scale is Batiste, and my favorite on the lower end of the price scale is Suave (you can click here to see all of my past reviews).
When I saw that this new got2b dry shampoo was a volumizing dry shampoo, I had to get it:
got2b Fat-tastic Fresh & Full Dry Shampoo
(retail: around $6, 4.3 oz)
I picked up got2be Fat-tastic Fresh & Full Dry Shampoo a few weeks ago when Rite Aid was running a BOGOFREE sale on got2b products. In terms of value, it's not as good of a deal as Suave Dry Shampoo, which is 5 oz and retails for around $2.50. got2be Fresh & Full is 4.3 oz and it retails for around $6 (for reference, Batiste is 5.05 oz and retails for around $8.50).
Since the word "collagen" appears on both the front and back of this can, I thought that it might actually contain collagen. It doesn't, so it's really just claiming to have a "collagen effect" (i.e., plumper hair).
The reason I'm so obsessed with dry shampoos is because I have oily skin and side-swept bangs. If I go a day without washing my hair, my bangs will look greasy and separated, which I hate. So dry shampoos are a lifesaver for me and, after using so many, I know exactly what I like, and dislike, in a dry shampoo.
That said, let's take a look at some before-and-afters:
In pic #1, I pulled the top layer of my bangs to the side to reveal the greasy, icky hair that sits on my forehead. This is what my hair looks like after skipping one day of washing.
In pic #2, this is what it looked like immediately after using a few short, quick bursts of Fresh & Full Dry Shampoo. Let me tell you: this stuff is POWERFUL. Let me clarify--the nozzle is powerful. I wasn't prepared for how loud and forceful this nozzle was! It blasted me away and actually startled me for a second! I almost felt like when the guys from Jackass did a parody of the famous Maxell Cassette Tape commercial from the 80s!
Also, I want to point out that this dry shampoo is definitely not invisible after application. You can see the white powder both on my hair and on my fingers in pic #2.
In pic #3, this is what my hair looked like after I worked this dry shampoo into my hair with my fingers.
In pic #4, this is what my hair looked like after I combed my bangs into place. As you can see, my hair has retained its shine, and in person it looked very full and clean!
Although this dry shampoo did leave a white cast behind, once I followed the directions and worked the product in with my fingers, followed by a comb, I found that the white residue disappeared and all that was left behind was cleaner, fuller, shiny hair.
Rice starch is an ingredient in this product (it's also in Batiste), and I truly believe that this is the magic ingredient that seems to "bulk up" my hair and give it nice volume. Rice starch seems to work wonderfully to absorb the oils in my hair as well, and it doesn't leave behind too much of a powdery feel to my hair. In other words, the rice powder gives my hair some "slip" and makes it feel really smooth to the touch, unlike other dry shampoos that feel powdery to the touch after application.
I would like to also mention the fragrance of this dry shampoo, because I simply adore it. If you're familiar with the scent of the Bath & Body Works Shea Cashmere line of body products, to me, this product smells very similar to that line. It's sweet, creamy and warm, with a hint of a floral note, and I find it quite comforting. In fact, it might be my favorite scent of all the dry shampoos I own (although I really love the tart grapefruit scent of Suave's dry shampoo).
FINAL VERDICT: I find the new got2b Fat-tastic Fresh & Full Dry Shampoo to be quite comparable to my beloved Batiste dry shampoo. Both products contain rice starch, which tends to work beautifully with my hair to add volume and absorb oil. I absolutely love the fragrance of this product (sweet, creamy, slightly floral) and I love the results after I use it. All of the oils in my hair seem to disappear and my hair is left looking cleaner, fuller and shiny. If you have darker hair, or red hair, you might want to take a little extra time to work this product in after application to avoid a white cast. The nozzle on this product is pretty powerful (and loud)--it might startle you if you're not prepared for it so consider yourself warned. Other than that, I think that you might really enjoy this one if you're already a fan of Batiste.
Have you tried the new got2be Fat-tastic Fresh & Full Dry Shampoo? If so, what do you think of it? If not, do you think this sounds like it might be a good fit for you?
oOo I can't wait til this hits our drug stores. I love Got2b stuff and the only dry shampoo I've been able to find here is Big Sexy and that stuff is almost $20 a can!
ReplyDeleteKittenMittens: Yay! So glad you're excited about this one--I truly love it. I hope you can find it in your area SOON! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat review, I will definitely be giving this a try!
ReplyDeleteI HATE the scent of the got2be Rockin' It Dry Shampoo (very lemon cleaner-like), but I love the effect it gives, and I love all the volume collagen products from got2be, so I will definitely pick this up when I see it! Thanks so much for the review!!
ReplyDeleteI can see that it made a real difference in your bangs, so if the stars are in alignment when my Suave runs out (i.e. its on sale) i think I will try it since I dont love Suave's grapefruit scent! Thanks G.! :)
ReplyDeleteOh definitely going to check this out! I like Suave but I only got to use it twice before it vanished into thin air! It must have evaporated or something...did anyone else have this problem??
ReplyDeleteOh, I'll have to look for this. The scent and ingredient list and the fact you said it's very similar to Batiste sold me. I'm a dry shampoo junkie but Batiste is my favorite, I am however to lazy to make the special trip to Sally's to get it so I'm always looking for a more easily obtained alternative. I hope it doesn't suffer from the magically empty can phenomenon it's sister from the Rockin' line does.
ReplyDeleteIf you say this one is comparable to my beloved Batiste (my favorite so far!) I'll definitely have to try it! I recently started using the other Got2b dry shampoo but it seems to make my hair super matte and dull and it leaves lots of whie residues on my hair.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the John Frieda dry shampoo? It is a lot smaller and probably around $6, so not a good bargain. I was wondering how you rank it in the dry shampoos. I like it better than the Suave, but have never tried the got2be or Batiste. So excited now to try the got2be!
