Review: New Carmex Pomegranate Ultra Smooth Lip Balm and Orange Lip Conditioner

So you might recall my current obsession with all of the new lip balms currently hitting drugstore shelves, and how I was super excited to find two new Carmex products at Walgreens a while back. Well I picked up both, and I'd love to share my thoughts about each one with you today. I'm a big Carmex fan and have reviewed several of their products on the blog over the years, so let's see how these two new additions measure up, shall we?

Let's start with this one:

Carmex Pomegranate Everyday Ultra Smooth Lip Balm
 (retail: around $1.50, 0.15 oz)

Spotted at Walgreens...

Some Walgreens sightings for your Saturday...

I spotted two new Carmex products at a local Walgreens the other day. The first is Carmex Everyday Lip Conditioner, which is orange flavored. The other is Carmex Everyday Ulta Smooth Lip Balm in Pomengrante (notice the "sweet-tart flavor" on the packaging). If you're a longtime reader of this blog, you know that I love anything with a sweet and tart flavor or fragrance, so this one must be mine (great, just what I need...another lip balm).

And there just so happens to be a new printable coupon for $0.30 off Carmex here! (Do not hesitate to print this one if you want it--Carmex coupons have a tendency to go quickly.)

Spotted: new products from Revlon, Burt's Bees and more (pic heavy)

I've got SO much to show you in this drugstore sightings report, so let's get right into it!

First off, my lovely reader Michelle spotted the new Revlon Sweetly Seductive display at Walgreens, and WOW, there are some fun products here! (Note, the display does not indicate that these are limited edition, so I believe they're core collection products.)

image credit for all Revlon photos: Michelle for Nouveau Cheap

I want to mention that Mai spotted this display at her local Rite Aid, so if you're interested in finding these, check Walgreens and Rite Aid!

I tried to enlarge part of the display for a closer look:

The products in this collection are Flavor Glosses and NEW Scented Nail Enamels. From what I can tell, most if not all of these glosses and polishes contain either glitter or glass flecks, so if you're a sparkle lover, you're probably going to love these!

Mint Fizz

Grape Fizz

Pineapple Fizz

Apple-tini Fizz

Watermelon Fizz

Orange Fizz

Colada Fizz

Grapefruit Fizz

Although I haven't seen these products in person, the Grapefruit Fizz scented polish looks like it might be a nice dupe of China Glaze Strawberry Fields! Many of these shades look like they might be jellies!

Thanks SO much, Michelle, for the great pics!

Next up, some new products from Burt's Bees:

My pal Jess spotted these new Burt's Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes at Walgreens recently (30 towelettes for $5.99).

And I spotted the new Burt's Bees Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm with Kokum Butter (the one I mentioned here) at Rite Aid--I initially spotted this balm at Walgreens so I wanted to let you know that it seems to be making its way to other drugstores now:

Next up, Jess spotted the new Carmex Lime Twist and Vanilla Click Sticks that I reviewed for you back in December of last year! I'm so happy these are FINALLY surfacing at Walgreens because it seems like it was so long ago that I reviewed them. They're fantastic and I highly recommend them.

Over at Rite Aid the other day, I spotted some new Mood Magic Lipsticks (color-changing products are really making a comback!) that looks similar to the ones from Jesse's Girl:

Next up, I'd like to give you a closer look some of the new Maybelline products I mentioned in this post. First, we have a closer look at the Maybelline Color Explosion eyeshadow quints, courtesy of Jess:

Review: New Carmex Vanilla and Lime Twist Click Sticks

With all these new drugstore products releasing right now, I'm thrilled to actually give you a review of some of them today! Yay!

I mentioned a little while ago that Carmex just released two new Click Stick flavors: Vanilla and Lime Twist. The folks at Carmex were kind enough to send both of them to me for a review, so I'd love to share my thoughts with you about each brand new flavor.

Just a quick note: someone had asked why these lip balms were called "Click Sticks" and that's super easy to answer: they make a tiny little clicking noise when you twist up the balm!

Left: Carmex Lime Twist Click Stick SPF15
Right: Carmex Vanilla Click Stick SPF15
(retail: $1.69 each at Walgreens)

I love the caps on these balms!

There is so much I love about the look these little balms: the cute pictures of limes and vanilla flowers on the labels, the little Carmex logo on the caps, and the semi-translucent balms themselves.

As for the fragrance and flavors? Well they both do have that signature Carmex undertone and "tingle" but I was very surprised to discover that the lime in Lime Twist is far more dominant than the signature Carmex flavor and fragrance. If you're a lime lover like me, I think you just might need this one. I have absolutely fallen in love with it and I haven't stopped wearing it to bed for the past eight nights. It's such a lovely, refreshing lime fragrance (and flavor). I cannot get enough.

As for Vanilla, I don't think the vanilla note is as predominant as the lime in Lime Twist, but it is still detectable. I can smell hints of it in the tube, and I can also taste a bit of vanilla in the flavor, but it doesn't reach out and grab me like the lime does. It's softer and more subtle, but it's definitely there, and it's a true, creamy vanilla when you get whiffs of it.

As for the formula, I think that fans of the original Click Sticks will not be disappointed. These new flavors have SPF15, and they glide across the lips with ease. They both feel extremely creamy and nourishing on my lips, and they last throughout the night when I apply them before bed. I can still feel them on my lips in the morning, and my lips are ever-so-soft when I wake up.

For $1.69 a piece, I think you simply cannot go wrong. And if you're a lime lover, meet your new favorite lip balm!

Are you already a Carmex fan? Have you spotted these new flavors at your local Walgreens yet? Are you tempted to pick one up? I'd love to hear from you!

By the way, I've also reviewed Carmex's other new products if you're interested: click here to see my Carmex Moisture Plus Tinted Lip Balm review, and click here to see my Carmex Healing Lotion and Healing Cream review.

New Carmex Lip Balm flavors!

I saw an article today about some new Carmex flavors, so I asked the folks at Carmex if they had any images, and they were kind enough to send some my way! I'm looking forward to trying these new flavors (I'm still loving their new tinted lip balms) and I'm so excited to show them to you:

(from DrugstoreNews.com) MILWAUKEE (Dec. 1) Carma Labs on Wednesday announced two new limited edition flavors: Carmex Lime Twist and Carmex Vanilla Click Sticks.

The new flavors will be available beginning in December 2010 for a limited time at special in-store displays exclusively at all Walgreens.

"Customers looking for a new flavor twist on a tried and true favorite will be excited about these two new flavors," stated Paul Woelbing, president of Carma Labs.

The new Lime Twist and Vanilla Click Sticks are rated an SPF of 15 to provide additional protection to the lips.

The suggested retail price for the new flavored Carmex lip balms is $1.69.

Lip balm fanatics: are you excited about these new flavors? Do you think you'll look for them at your local Wags this month? Please stay tuned because I'll review them as soon as I get my hands on them!

Review: New Carmex Moisture Plus Tinted Lip Balms

In addition to the new Carmex body products I reviewed a little while ago (click here if you missed that), I was also sent the brand new tinted lip balms for review and I'm so excited to share these with you!

Sheer Peach Tint and Sheer Pink Tint
(retail: $2.99 at Walgreens)

As those of you Carmex fans probably know, the Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balms are like a more "sophisticated" version of the traditional Carmex balm. They come in a sleek, narrow tube with a retractable slant-tip applicator. Also, they're SPF15 and contain Vit. E and aloe for extra moisturization.

Up until recently, Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balms only came in one formula: clear. But Carmex has just released these two tinted versions and, for now, they're available exclusively at Walgreens. You can find them in-store (don't look for them in the regular lip balm section--they will be in an end-cap display) or online here and here.

So my big question whenever I try a new tinted balm is: will the color actually show up on my lips? I'm very pleased to say that YES, these colors definitely show up!

I am extremely impressed by these balms! Not only do the colors show up on my lips, but there is no shimmer (it seems that every tinted balm these days has shimmer in it). I love shimmer-free tinted balms for when I'm in a hurry and I don't have time to be concerned with how the color's going to look when it wears off. These balms just gradually fade on my lips until they're gone. Perfect for a low-maintenance day. Heck, you can even apply these without a mirror, which is always a plus.

Another thing I like about these balms is that you can build for more intensity. One swipe gives me a very sheer hint of color, while a couple more swipes builds up the color and really makes it more visible.

The texture of these balms is exactly like the original clear version. They are more on the slick and shiny end of the lip balm spectrum (not waxy or dull) but the flavor and fragrance are very similar to the original Carmex formula (the one in the yellow pot). So expect that signature "tingle" when you first apply these. I love everything about original Carmex so I love these as well. But if you're sensitive to the original formula, I just want to be sure you know that the flavor and fragrance of these tinted balms are very similar.

All in all, I think these tinted balms are a wonderful new addition to the Carmex family, and I'm seriously impressed with the pigmentation of both shades. Both the pink and peach shades give me just enough color to let me know they're on, and I love them for a light-makeup-day (I think they'd also be ideal for the gym, the beach, or if you play sports).

Have you already spotted these new tinted balms at your local Walgreens? Are you thinking about giving them a whirl? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Review: New Carmex Healing Lotion and Healing Cream

I was super excited a few weeks ago when I mentioned to you that I spotted these new Carmex lotions at Walgreens. I've talked about Carmex on this blog several times (in addition to reviewing their lip products I've also hosted a few Carmex giveaways) so when I saw these new bodycare products, I was SUPER excited to try them.

I was recently sent both the Carmex Healing Lotion and Healing Cream for review, and I wanted to hurry up and post my review as quickly as possible since you can snag these for just 99-cents at Walgreens (sale ends Sept. 25th). As I mentioned earlier in the week, Walgreens currently has these products on sale for $4.99 (retail: $6.49) with $4 back in Register Rewards! But hurry if you want to take advantage of this deal!

So let's get right into the review:

Let's cut right to the chase here. If you have dry to severely-dry skin, you might LOVE these formulas. I've been using them for a few days now and the one thing I can say with absolute certainty is that both the lotion and the cream instantly moisturize my skin and leave a rich, protective coating behind. The coating is not sticky or greasy to me, but it's thicker than your average lotion or cream. This is heavy-duty stuff, folks.

As you can see in the above pic, the Healing Cream (which is designed for hands, feet and other targeted areas) is thicker and more dense than the Healing Lotion. For me, the Healing Lotion is easier to apply to large areas of skin because it glides more easily over the skin (due to the thinner consistency). But that's not to say the Healing Lotion doesn't moisturize! It definitely does, and it's been wonderful for my dry legs.

The Healing Cream has been pretty incredible for my dry hands and feet this week. As the tube indicates, you really only need to use a small amount and you will instantly feel the results. I love that this cream leaves a protective barrier on my hands and even stands up to multiple hand-washings. It also seems to be helping my poor, dry cuticles.

Now let's talk about the fragrance. I love it. It smells very, very similar to the original Carmex lip balm, but maybe just a tad bit softer and creamier and with a bit more of a vanilla note. If you like how Carmex lip balm smells, you'll probably love this.

All in all, I would recommend both Carmex Healing Lotion and Healing Cream those of you with very dry skin. Both formulas may be a tad much on skin that doesn't need immediately, serious relief, because both formulas are thick and leave a protective barrier behind. But like I mentioned before, I don't think it's greasy or sticky, which is what I love the most about these products. I can feel them on my skin, but they don't get in the way of my normal daily activities.

Have you already tried either of these products? Are you thinking about picking them up before the sale at Wags ends? I'd love to hear from you!

Carmex Lip Balm. I had NO idea...

Sometimes I get so excited about a product that I feel like I can't type the words fast enough. Believe it or not, that's what's happening to me as I write this review for Carmex, the brand of lip balm that has been around since the 1930s and is still available practically everywhere for around $2 a piece.

I have to admit, when I hear the word "Carmex", my mind goes straight to the little yellow pot that my dad has kept on his nightstand for, well, forever. And while researching and testing Carmex, I've come to understand the meaning of "father knows best."

I was sent some Carmex products for review recently, and while testing the products, I visited MyCarmex.com. Have you been to the Carmex website? It's got to be one of the cutest product websites I've ever seen. It's so fun, so retro, and so informative.

Before I start my product review, I have to share with you some of the awesome information I found just by going on the Carmex website:

1. Carmex lip balms never expire! Seriously, the owner of Carmex had jars on his desk that were 20 years old and they were just as good as the day they were made. Read more about it here.

2. Carmex has an online shop that sells Carmex t-shirts, hats, etc. and ALL proceeds from the sales of their merchandise go to Toys for Tots. How awesome is that?

3. Carmex is the best-kept secret of models in the United Kingdom. Those gorgeous gals know how to keep their lips moist and pouty and the answer is Carmex.

4. Did you know that, because of its blend of salicylic acid, menthol, camphor, shea butter and other great ingredients, Carmex can be used for things aside from dry lips? It can help dry out pimples! It can be used as an antiseptic for minor cuts, burns and bites! It can soothe dry, cracked elbows! And soften cuticles! Yep. It works for all of the above. Talk about the ultimate money-saver.

5. Carmex does not test on animals. Yay! :)

6. Carmex has the CUTEST little site called MyCarmexKiss, where you can use your own picture and put animated lips on it, then send it to whomever you desire! I just made a pic of Johnny Depp giving a big wet French kiss and sent it to my bestie. lol! Love this site!

OK, enough about the site, let's get to the products.

First up, Cherry Carmex Moisturizing Click Stick Lip Balm with SPF 15

The old school yellow pot has received a makeover! Now don't get me wrong, the yellow pot is still very much available, but now you can have your Carmex in a convenient tube. There's a reason why this has been voted the #1 Pharmacist Recommended Lip Balm for 10 years running. This stuff works. The tingle from the menthol and camphor really do help you to know that it's working. For me, the cherry flavor, combined with the Click Stick (there's a little clicking noise that lets you know when you've raised the product high enough) make this one hard to beat.

Carmex Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm SPF 15

Aaah, yes. The sleek, more "sophisticated" Carmex lip balm. It's still got the peppy zing that you've come to associate with Carmex, but this formula is a little smoother, a little more silky, and perfect for underneath your favorite lipstick. I love the SPF 15 and the satin glossy finish, and the slanted tip makes it perfect for application. Want to feel more lady-like when using Carmex? This is the ticket.

Carmex Strawberry Tube SPF 15

Strawberry flavored Carmex. Need I say more? Yes, it's still got the menthol zing, but mixed with strawberry, this is so much fun to wear. Who knew I'd love the combo of strawberry and mint so much? And of course it's just so fun to squeeze it out of the tiny opening of the tube. This one may be my favorite of the bunch.

So...for around $2 at most drugstores, grocery stores, gas stations, etc., you can get something that's awesome for your lips, can clear up zits, soften cuticles and elbows, AND never expires. How can you beat that, really?

Are you a devoted Carmex user? If not, are you thinking about picking up a tube? I'd love to know your thoughts!
