Spotted: new makeup, beauty tools, nail polish, skincare and haircare (and dupe alerts)

Lots of new beauty products hitting drugstore shelves these days, and I'm doing my best to help us all keep up with them! It's exhausting when the seasons change and the new crop of products come in, but it's also very exciting...so much possibility and potential, right?

So let's start with CVS sightings!

Reader Amelania spotted a new CVS house brand dupe of L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base:

CVS Makeup Perfecting Face Primer
(retail: $9.99, 0.6 oz)

Amelania confirmed that the CVS Makeup Perfecting Face Primer retails for $9.99 (0.6 oz). The L'Oreal version retails for $12.99 at CVS (0.5 oz). Also of note, the CVS version comes with a "bonus applicator wand."

While I was at CVS the other day, I spotted some new Essence of Beauty makeup tools:

Essence of Beauty Premium Blender Brush, Vitamin E Infused
(retail: $9.99)

Not sure what the difference is between the pink and beige versions, but I think it's just a color choice. Anyway, this looks like a dupe of the famous Elizabeth Arden Makeup Foundation Blender Blush, no? The Elizabeth Arden version retails for $15, while the CVS version retails for $9.99, but you know how often there are sales/coupons at CVS, so you could definitely get it for less if you waited.

Essence of Beauty Inter-Changeable Makeup Brush Kit
(retail: $9.99)

And this new inter-changeable makeup brush set reminds me of the ones from Japonesque.

Over at Rite Aid, reader MissDeviousDiva spotted this new LA Colors palette display:

image credit: MissDeviousDiva for Nouveau Cheap
LA Colors Private Eye 24 Color Palettes
(retail: $3.99 at Rite Aid)

As MissDeviousDiva pointed out, this might be the first movie-tie in collection that we've seen from LA Colors (can you think of another?). The movie it's promoting is called Fun Size, which comes out next month. There are two palettes in this collection: Witness and Stakeout. You can view more info on these palettes here.

I spotted this display at my local Rite Aid too:

I also spotted the Disco Lights Nail Colors at Rite Aid (thanks to everyone else who sent pics of this one):

Blue Cross Disco Lights Nail Colors
(retail: $4.99 at Rite Aid)

I couldn't resist pushing the button on the cap to see what the blinking colors looked like. I can confirm that they don't flash quickly on and off like you'd expect--it's more of a slow, groovy type of flashing, and it cycles through a few colors (it's not just green for the green polish, etc.). In other words, each bottle flashes a series of colors in a slow rythymn. Kinda fun.

I also spotted the newest City Color Nail Polish collection (again, thanks to everyone else who sent pics of this one):

 City Color Flutter Collection
(retail: $1.99)

I'm not sure why I'm feeling like we've seen these rose-shaped bottles before. Maybe I'm just getting them confused with the little rose design that was on the tops of the City Color polishes from last Spring?

Over at Walgreens, I spotted these Limited Edition Chapsticks (sorry if these are old news but they were new to me):

Chapstick Limited Edition Ice Cream Classics
(retail: unknown)

Reader Jess spotted the new Yes To haircare collection at her local Walgreens:

image credit: Jess for Nouveau Cheap
Yes To Blueberries Healthy Hair Repair Shampoo and Conditioner
(retail: $7.99 each, 11.5 oz)

I posted about this new Yes To haircare collection back in the beginning of July, but if you missed and it would like more info on all of the products, click here. The older Yes To haircare products are apparently not going away, in case you like those too.

Jess also spotted a new Burt's Bees lip treatment at Walgreens:

image credit: Jess for Nouveau Cheap
Burt's Bees Ulta Moisturizing Lip Treatment with Kokum Butter
(retail: $4.99, 0.25 oz)

Over at Walmart, Jess spotted the new Ultra Shea collection from Clear:

image credit: Jess for Nouveau Cheap
 Clear Ultra Shea Haircare Collection
(retail: $4.98 each at Walmart)

And Jess also spotted some new Pantene products at Walmart:

image credit: Jess for Nouveau Cheap
Pantene No Crunch Curls Whip (left), Silky Moisture Whip (right)

I don't know about you, but "Silky Moisture Whip" sounds like the name of an Asian beauty product to me. I LOVE the names of Asian beauty products so, for that reason, I'm captivated by this product. A moisturizer and a styler? I'm in.

Jess also spotted these Pantene products at Walmart:

image credit: Jess for Nouveau Cheap
Pantene Stylers

Now, I don't know if these are existing Pantene styling products in new packaging, or if they're brand new products. What's interesting to note is that there's a little "stamp" on each product that says "Celebrity Stylist Danilo Endorsed".

And just who is Danilo, you might ask? Oh, just Gwen Stefani's personal friend and stylist (here's a pic of them together), and also the creator of Lady Gaga's Diet Coke can rollers in her Telephone video. Oh, and he was also responsible for the drastic makeover of Rooney Mara for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. So yeah, he's kind of a big deal in the world of hair.

That's it for this drugstore sightings report. Have you spotted/purchased any of the products featured here today? Any must-haves? Thoughts?

Thanks so much, Amelania, MissDeviousDiva and Jess, for the great pics and info!

  4. The rose-shaped polishes remind me of a bottle of Claire's polish I picked up on clearance last year, so I feel like I've seen them before too!

  6. There are no CVS stores in my area, but I'm looking forward to hear what people think about Pantene's heat protectant. I just purchased Tresemme's Heat Tamer now that I'm on my haircare/hairstyling kick.

  8. Yay! I own both of the private eye palettes, and can say that the colors are gorgeous! Super shimmery & well pigmented! Also some duo chromes!! Good stuff, highly recommended!!

  9. In the Disco Lights picture you can see part of a display of Hedy Manishma eye shadows in swirled colors. I grabbed all of the colors and am really loving them-you can blend together and get so many variations. they also feel creamy even though they are powder. A great deal at 3.99, especially if you get a RiteAid discount.

  10. Hey G (or G's readers):
Does anyone know if the L'Oreal dupe works just as well as the original L'Oreal? I use this under my make-up and it works wonders for my skin appearance (as I tend to have adult acne and large pores - ok, maybe they're just large to me!), but I would LOVE to pay less for it...
If so, please let me know. Also, has anyone used the Yes to Line? We carried the Yes to line of facial cleansers at work (Sears), but last time I saw, they were 1. expensive and 2. being clearanced (and were still expensive). The hair ones sound great, but do they work??
    Thanks so much!!
(and I love the rose shaped bottles too... may have to pick a couple up based on that alone... plus so excited about the LA Colors - picked up their smaller pallettes from the Dollar Tree based on your recommendation & haven't been more pleased!)

    1. I've used Yes to Carrots shampoo, conditioner and lotion. It was years ago but I remember being happy with everything I used. I'd use it again if I didn't have such a backlog of these types of products. I remember the shampoo making my hair feel very clean but not stripped.

    2. I bought Pantene Silky Moisture Whip over a month ago but honestly haven't used it enough to give my opinion on it, LOL.

    3. I doubt that they are expensive at CVS, Walgreen or Target. My better half works for Sears and they are considerably overpriced on so many things! (Even with his discount).

    4. Sorry hun, haven't tried the CVS version.

  11. I saw the grey rose shaped nail polish at my rite aid a few weeks ago, but couldn't justify buying it just for the bottle shape..I love the rose shape though...Hope to see the full collection, maybe I need one of these colors!

  12. Silky Moisture Whip sounds wonderful. Remember when they used to have those moisture foams that dispensed like mousse and were suppose to hydrate dray and damaged hair? I wonder if it's similar.

    1. I don't remember those! Who made them? Thanks!

    2. Honestly I remember so much about them except who made them. I remember the light colored bottle, the clean fresh scent, the aerosol dispenser and that they had 2 formulas (one for normal and one for dry). Given that this was in the 90's and I was in middles school/ high school it had to have been a drugstore brand.

Possible brands: Dove, Herbal Essence, Clairol Condition, LA Looks, Suave, White Rain, L'oreal Studio, Finesse or even Pantene.

      I wish I could remember.....

  13. I have seen a 6 pack of LA Colors nail polish that is also associated with the movie above. The packaging is identical to the picture above, except that it's nail polish, of course. :)I have only seen this at Rite Aid so I had assumed it had been sitting around awhile lol. If I see it again, I'll send a pic in case anyone is interested.

  15. I see the rose shaped nail polish bottles all the time at Dollar Tree they are basically a no named brand of polish. Since I bought my self an eye primer (!)I have been wearing eyeshadow nearly every day! LOL I really didn't think it would make a difference but it really does! Anyway I may go out and buy the LA Colors pallette! I love a sheer wash of color on my eyes now! :)

    2. LOL G! I bought ELF Eyelid Primer for $1! I figured it would go slowly and not spend alot of money as I did not plan to be wearing it every day. Anyway so far so good, however there was a big fail when I tried it with a cream shadow. I don't know if it is my imagination but I think it maybe making my color choice seem a little yellowish but that could be the lighting in my room.

  16. Allure magazine had something on the Pantene Moisture Whip in June (in a story about mousse). They said it was similar to mousse but it had the extra moisturizing benefit, which is super tempting...

  17. I won a set of the Ultra Shea shampoo & conditioner from a Clear giveaway a few months ago. It worked wonders on my bleached-out hair and smells lovely.

  22. My Dollar Tree has sparkly polishes in rose shaped bottles. They come in pastel colors of pink, blue and purple. I wonder if they are the same brand. I always look at them but never purchase Bc of the lack of info on them. I want to try the Burt's Bees for my chronic dry lips and both of those Loreal whips.

  23. I know a lot of us like dessert flavored stuff but I did a review on these, not sure if they're still around at Wal-Mart but the Limited Edition Smackers Tokyo Treats lip glosses. They come in four: Strawberry Mochi Parfait, Sweet Plum Pudding, Vanilla Ginger Cake, and Passion Fruit Tart Pie. I have the first three and love them, especially the Sweet Plum Pudding. I would say grab them while you can because they're limited. They also have two eye shadow pallets and a body spray or two to go with them. Just letting you guys know!

  24. I bought both of the whips about a month back from Walmart. I've only used the no crunch whip so far and it doesn't really have any hold to it, but it feels/smells wonderful!
