Group Review #1: Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm

I want to thank everyone who responded to my Target Beauty Bag post from yesterday. I'm so thrilled that many of you seem willing to participate in a group review of the items that we all (most of us) received in our free sample bags!

So today I'd like to start with the Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm. I realize that not everyone received this in their bag (and I'm sorry to those of you who still have not received your bags in general--hopefully you'll get them very soon!). But for those of you who DID receive this lip balm, now's the time to share your thoughts!

The above image was originally published in my own review of this product, which you can see here.

So lovelies, what did YOU think of this lip balm? How did you like the flavor, consistency and moisturizing properties? Did you find it easy to use? Did you see any results after using it?

Please leave your reviews in the comments--I cannot wait to read them!

PS: If you did not sign up for the Target Beauty Bag but you own this lip balm, please feel free to share your thoughts with us too! The more the merrier!

  1. formula: light and minty scented/flavored which I love

Moisturizing: stayed on me long but still kept my lips soft, but not as soft as using a heavier balm like carmex.

Use:very easy and I like the neutral packaging, looks very organic and natural

My husband really likes this one and he's a mega chap stick guy. He's been using it for about 3 weeks now and loves it as well. Best thing in the bag in my opinion :D

  2. This lip balm is great. It applies easily and smoothly. it's not all that greasy and my lips stay smooth, a natural smooth for quite some time. I am not a fan of the flavor. Mint lip balms has never been my thing but it is pretty light. It's def. something that will not prevent me from using it in the future. 4.5 stars outta five for me! Thanks for letting me know about it!!

  3. i have super chapped lips constantly, and after hearing so many good things about this, i reeeaaaaaly wanted it to work for me. the formula and scent/flavor reminded me of burt's bees, although it was a little less waxy. unfortunatly, it gave me the same problems burt's bees does. its awesome for a few days, and then my lips start peeling and cracking. badly. ive heard that some people are particularly sensitive to peppermint oil, so i suspect that could be the culprit.
so i'm probably in the small minority of people who just wasn't wowed by this.

  4. i have to say this was the best thing about the target beauty bag, it loved this balm! It keeps my lips soft and moistured wwithout feeling heavy or waxy. I also really like the slight mint flavor because it is not overpowering. two thumbs up for this little guy!

  5. I really liked it - I agree with those who commented to it's lightly minty flavor - but it's not overpowering, I don't like it when lip gloss is over flavored. I felt like it lasted a pretty long time too. I am pleased!

  6. I have the same issues as theetinygoat. The lip balm worked wonders for a week and then my lips started to peel and crack worse than before.
It's such a shame because I love the texture of the lip balm. If only all lip balms could feel that great :(

  7. I love this stuff!! I love the smell and the taste of it. i use it every day i wear it inder my lip gloss and then i use it every night. I can feel a difference in how soft my lips are..love it!

  8. While I do like the scent, a light minty Andes mint scent, I'm not a fan of mint lip products, so I really haven't been using it. I feels good when I put it on my lips, but I'd have to try it for a few days to see what it did to my lips. I'll save it as a backup lip balm for when I start to run out of my favorites that Use all the time.

  9. It's decent. I like the smell and feel of it. My only problem is that it doesn't feel as moisturizing as the lip balms I really like, and it doesn't seem to last that long. I think it's pretty good for during the day in Spring and Summer though.

  10. I don't usually like flavored lip balms but this one is so good I don't mind the flavor. Also, the taste goes away quickly. I use it at night and wake up with moisturizes lips in the morning.

  11. I loved the lip balm. Neutrogena products usally don't work for me. I would buy this product. Great flavor and moist.

  12. I do like this lip balm, but like what some said, my lips didn't become as moisturized as I'd expected. The packaging, scent, no flavour and simplicity is lovely though:)

    ...I wouldn't buy this though...hahah

  13. I thought this lip balm was pretty weird when I started using it. Especially the tip. It was hard. I was confused as to what it was. I was also confused as to what the flavor was. I later realized it was like a sweet mint. The consistency is average and is fairly moisturizing. I find it an average lip balm, not something I would buy again. I use it before bed and I wake up with it gone.

I think it's nice the Neutrogena is making an effort to be natural though.

  14. This doesn't last a really long time on my lips (which results in me using it a lot- I foresee running out quickly!), but I have noticed that my lips are considerably softer and smoother! I like it a lot.

  15. This product was ok. I am not a mint scent fan so that might have something to do with it. My fav lip balm is stil EOS lemon lip balm. I love it!!!

  16. I like this lip balm a lot. I'm pretty much a Burt Bee's Peppermint gal, but I've been using this Neutrogena one ever since I received it in my bag.

I don't mind that it's unscented nor flavored. It keeps my lips pretty darn moisturized, and I suffer from dry mouth and lips.

  17. I like this one! It does a good job of moisturizing my lips and it has a pretty good wear time as well. It works nicely as a layer under my gloss or lipstick.

  18. I like it a lot - soft without being mushy, nicely flavoured and scented, decently moisturising. Not as good as my favourites - Eos and Burt's Bees Pomegranate, but pretty darn good.

  19. Simply Amazing! Formula is lightly minty, super moisurizing and definitely my favorite that I have ever found.

I always have super dry, cracked, chapped lips, and this is one of those things that as soon as I put it on, I feel the difference.

  20. I love it! Best part of this freebie. It's my new go-to lip balm. :)

  21. I live in a colder climate than you do, so I think that may have affected its performance. It is actually kind of hard...on its own I had to bear down really hard. However, I actually fell asleep holding it and when I woke up and used it, the warmth from my hand softened it up and made it great. It doesn't beat Burt's Bees in the fact that Burt's Bees is fine without heat. I'm not sure I like that particular minty flavor...it takes a bit of getting used to.

  22. For me it's only okay. It's a little firmer than the balms I'm used to, but not overly. It was difficult to "get started", because the edges were considerably higher than the center. Once the edges were worn down, it was much easier to use.

I like the mild scent and flavor. Both dissipate fairly quickly. The balm's not as moisturizing as I was hoping for. I have a balm from an indie company that I love, and matching that is a tall order.

  23. Woops it made it sound like you hadn't already said that the stick was hard...I just meant that it's way harder than I expected, like a Chapstick that I tried (in the blue tube). There is hardly any give (without it being warmed up). But maybe I should keep trying it so see if that will wear off, and it's just the top of it (like with pencil eyeliners).

  24. I am also not too impressed by this lip balm. It's not as moisturizing as I like my lip balms to be and the lasting power is just average too. I like the soft texture and mild flavor though. So it's nice but nothing great.

  25. Its dreadful! I don't see how so many people can love it so much I expected lots out of it at first.. loved the scent, packaging, etc.. but the consistency is so much greasier than my preference. Also it did absolutely nothing for my lips.. my lips get chapped so easily no matter what lipbalm I use.. but as for this one, I went from nasty cracked, dry, bleeding lips to slightly less cracked, still dry, and still bleeding lips. The only lip balm that has ever worked for me is EOS lipbalm.. all others, ESPECIALLY THIS ONE work terribly.

  26. Like most people, I find this smooth and medium lasting, but am not so fond of mint scented products. I will definitely keep using this until it's gone, but unless they come out with a different scent I would not buy one.

  27. I don't feel the love for this. It feels a little waxy to me and isn't moisturizing, in my opinion. Also, after years of being a worshiper to the original Burt's Bees, I developed an intolerance to peppermint oil so for that reason, I can't use this very much, but wouldn't want to anyway. I much prefer my Nivea balms.

  28. I love this balm, but I'm not a fan of the smell when I first apply it. But overall its easily to apply, not greasy, and keeps my lips moisturized for quite some time.

  29. I like the balm!!! Nice smell, even coverage and it makes my lips nice and soft.

  30. I like this lip balm, but I didn't really notice a big difference between this and my 99 cent chapstick.

  31. I liked this lip balm, but it will never take the place of my Burt's Bees peppermint lip balm!

  32. Ok, so I am a huge lip balm gal!! love love love them! BUT, I really did not like this one...at all. In fact, I can actually say I 100% dislike it, which is unheard of for me! I had the biggest issue with the texture of the balm - it felt really scratchy and actually hurt to put it on my lips! Once I actually got it on, it would feel scratchy and yucky rubbing my lips together! I'm not a huge peppermint fan, but I could deal with the scent if it didn't cause pain to have on my lips! Maybe I got one from a bad batch? i don't know...but I can't understand how I could alone in finding this lip balm so ver scratchy and uncomfortable. A few weeks after receiving this in the target sample bag, I was buying a different Neutrogena product and had the opportunity to receive another one of these lip balms for free and I actually turned it down! another unheard of for me!!! Anyone else out there have this problem???
