Swatches: New Wet n Wild Limited Edition MegaLast Bloom Collection

Wet n Wild Limited Edition Megalast Bloom Collection
(retail: $1.99 each, 0.30 oz)

Note: the size of these bottles is identical to the core collection MegaLast shades. They are not minis.

As many of you know, my favorite polishes in the entire world are creme pastels. I just adore them, so it's no surprise that the new Spring 2011 Wet n Wild limited edition MegaLast Bloom collection feels like it was made for me! I recently received the full collection for review, and I'm thrilled to be able to show it to you before it hits stores!

From Wet n Wild:

Bloom: Limited Edition MegaLast Nail Color

Spring into color! Satisfy your flower child with the season’s freshest shades in a 5-day chip-resistant, long-lasting formula. This fun, perfect for spring collection includes 6 limited edition shades in “hand-plucked” colors.

33573 Cherry Blossom (Pastel Pink)
33574 Sunburst (Pastel Orange)
33575 Collecting Pollen (Pastel Yellow)
33576 Garden Hose (Pastel Green)
33577 Bird Bath (Pastel Blue)
33578 Laughing Lilac (Pastel Purple)

I did not use any top coat in the following pictures, and underneath every picture I indicate how many coats of polish were required for opacity:

Collecting Pollen took three coats for a streak-free finish, which I believe is pretty par for the course when it comes to yellow polishes. This color just screams "Easter" to me.

I adore lilac polishes, and this shade is certainly no exception. Laughing Lilac required two coats for full opacity. I'll have to go through my lilacs for a future dupe comparison post if you're interested in seeing how this shade compares to other drugstore lilacs.

Cherry Blossom totally reminds me of Sweetie Pie, which was a limited edition shade from Maybelline's 2010 Sweet Thing collection (click here for a pic of Sweetie Pie). If you missed out on Sweetie Pie, now's your chance to get this lovely peach shade for spring! This color required three coats for opacity.

When it comes to baby blues, Bird Bath has got to be one of the easiest to apply in my entire collection. This shade only required two coats for good opacity.

Sunburst is a lovely pastel orange and I don't think I own anything that comes close--it's much softer than Wet n Wild Sunny Side Up, which is one of my all-time favorite orange polishes. This required three coats for good opacity.

I never grow tired of mint greens! Garden Hose was very easy to apply--it only required two coats for complete opacity. If you don't already have a mint green polish, this would be a lovely one to start with.

FINAL VERDICT: If you're a pastel creme lover, this collection is for you. Historically, pastel cremes found at the drugstore have been streaky and difficult to work with, so I'm very happy to report that I didn't have any major issues with any of the shades in the Bloom collection. Three of the six required three coats, while the other three required two coats for opacity. The formula of this collection was consistent across the board--none of the shades were too thick or goopy, and they weren't thin and extra-streaky either. I think this is a great collection for pastel lovers and my only complaint (if you can even call it a complaint) is that it might have been nice to see a bubblegum pink and/or a true pastel purple in the collection. But then again, the drugstores are crowded with those types of shades so I really don't find myself missing them when I look at this collection.

I wish I could tell you exactly where you'll be able to find this limited edition collection, but it really depends on your particular drugstores. Some drugstores in my area, like Rite Aid for example, tend to consistently offer Wet n Wild limited edition collections, while others don't (the CVS stores in my area rarely carry any Wet n Wild products). So just check the stores in your area that historically put out LE collections if you want any of these polishes.

Are you a creme pastel polish fan? Are you excited to purchase any of these shades? Do you spot any potential dupes in this collection? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  2. I'm not a big fan of pastels - I don't think they look right on my hands. I have to say, I really hate the stumpy bottles the MegaLast polishes come in. I have some from the Holidays and one or two that were regulars and I just hate the tiny, awkward handle and brush. Lol. I dislike it so much that I won't be bothering to try any of these - even for blog purposes. Besides, I can't get any Wet n' Wild nail polish to last on me. :\

  3. I've never tried pastel polishes before but now I can with these super cheap ones! I'm excited to try the lilac, and the blue one looks so pretty :) Perhaps not on me, but in general the color makes me drool!

  4. Calling all pastel lovers?

    I'm here!!

Excited for Laughing Lilac (duh hehe plus no one can have too many lilacs!)

Also for Garden Hose (obsessed with mint greens as well).

Interested in seeing Sunburst though, it looks very unique. =)

  5. ThatsSOfresh: Those are two of my faves as well. :)

NeutraKris: Wow, I'm sorry to hear you're not a fan of these polishes (to say the least!). haha! I personally have had good luck with the staying power of these, and I'm actually sad that the core collection has been discontinued. I find the short handles easy to work with because I have better control of the brush with a shorter handle. And I also LOVE the brush shape of these polishes--the flat bristles and rounded edges work so well with my nail shape--I rarely require any clean-up when I use these. Again, I'm so sorry to hear they're not a love-match for you. :(

Gaby: You're so right--the price of these makes them so easy to experiment with. Welcome to the world of pastel polishes! I hope you enjoy them if you try them. :)

  6. Silly Lilacs: OMG, I immediately thought of you the minute I saw the name of the lilac polish! :D And yes, Sunburst is unique to me--I really can't find a polish in my stash that comes close.

  7. Omg, I want!! These colors are awesome!

  8. Laughing Lilac and Garden hose are my two favorites (plus the names are too cute).

  9. I love all of these colors! I also really like the way you swatched them and put the pictures up on your blog. Bird Bath and Laughing Lilac are GORGEOUS.

  10. Tara: Glad to hear you like them! :)

  11. Gorgeous! I LOVE these MegaLast polishes- they wear very well on me and I love the brushes and handle! However, I just got a bunch of pastels similar to these from China Glaze so I think I'll just pick up Cherry Blossom since I think that's the only one I don't have a similar polish to already.

  12. prettyonabudget: OMG, I agree! I totally forgot to mention that in my post, but I am so loving the names of these shades. They get me in the mood for spring! :)

Susalie: Glad you like them! And thanks so much for the kind words about my photos. :)

  13. Oooh, purty! I have my eyes on Collecting Pollen, Laughing Lilac, Cherry Blossom and Bird Bath. I love creme polishes and I'm starting to get into pastels so I'll definitely be hunting these down.

  14. I am really loving Laughing Lilac and Cherry Blossom! I have nothing like those 2 colors in my collection :D

  15. AffordableBeauty: Glad to hear the MegaLast polishes work for you! I too love the formula, handle and brushes so I'm sad to see them go. But at least we have these LE collections, right? And Cherry Blossom is even prettier in person, girlie. I swear it makes my skin look healthier and brighter when I wear it, which is always a plus!

  16. Mimsy: Nice to hear from you again, girlie! If you're just starting to get into pastels, I think this would be a lovely collection to purchase. :)

ilovemakeup84: They're both so pretty--I can totally understand why you're loving them! :)

  17. I love these happy colors as much as I love the idea of their releasing collections! I have one Megalast (Through the Grapevine), two Crazes and a WildShine in my collection and they probably get used at least once a week in one capacity or another. I'm excited about the green since people keep talking about Milani Dressmaker (and it looks similar) but I can never find it.

  18. If a smaller bottle keeps the cost down on WnW polishes, I'm pleased with that. Pay less=more colors!

I wonder if I make my mantra 'you do not like pastels' will convince me of what has come to not be true? You are right that creme pastels have come a long way from days of yore.

And I don't know how I can really resist because of their super cute names. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm going to keep an eye out for these.

  20. Shieldmaiden96: I love Through the Grapevine! :) And you know, I reviewed Milani Dressmaker

    here
and I have to say, it's got more yellow to it than Garden Hose and it also has a very subtle green shimmer to it. So definitely not a match, but Garden Hose is a lovely true mint green pastel that I think isn't too blue or yellow. It's more of a neutral mint green. Hope that helps!

  21. Kimberly: Thank you so much for reminding me--I just updated this post to make it clear that these are not minis! I just checked and they're 0.30 oz, which is the exact size of the core collection MegaLast polishes. The only difference between these and the core collection is the color of the caps. :) And you're so right--pastel cremes have come a LONG way. I think you need to revisit pastels, girlie! ;)

bluecollarsophisticate: I'd love to know what you think if you try these!

  22. Garden hose and bird bath are beautiful! I need to get my hands on these for spring. Thanks for sharing :D

  23. Patiently waiting for you to post pics of the new eyeshadows...I guess I'm just not a nail polish fan LOL!

  24. They're all so pretty! Dammit I want Wet n Wild over here!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Amber: You are so welcome! Please let me know how you like them when you get them! :)

Anita: Hahaha! I'm working on those and hope to have them up in the early evening. :)

Lillian: Awwww, I wish you had them there too. And I wish we had Barry M here, so I guess we're even. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh I meant to ask- do you know about when they will be available in drugstores? You may not but I figured I'd ask :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I could never resist a mint green polish and I'm in need of a pastel yellow polish, so I'll definitely be hauling (at least) two from this collection when I get my hands on it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I can totally splurge on these!!! Goodbye OPI, Essie, etc with your +$7 price tags! *evil laugh*

    ReplyDelete
  29. I want to own each and every one of these and soon I will.

  30. I saw the first picture and headline and actually said "oh my God" out loud. I am a nail polish freak, not much excites me these days, but these are so lovely. I'm like you, pastel cremes are my absolute favorites. I want them all, but I think Cherry Blossom, Sunburs and Collecting Pollen are my favorites. And the names are awesome! Can't wait to find these.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ah, Wet n' Wild seriously tests my self restraint skills >.< I love pastel nail colors and I've never tried a WNW nail polish. But I'm super curious to try them out! The blue, green, and pink all look like things I'd wear.

Can't wait to see the new quads!! I might definitely need to break my ban for them since they're limited edition >.<

    ReplyDelete
  32. I wonder if these will be available at Walgreens? Well i have a Rite Aid too so hopefully one or the other. When will they come out?

    ReplyDelete
  33. These are so pretty! I hope I can find some, I'd really like a couple of them. Out of all the polish I own, oddly enough, my WnW polishes wear best and longest on me.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I fear pastels, because I just can't do 4, 5, 6 coats of polish. I'm so relieved to hear these are nicely pigmented. I'll definitely be picking up the 2 coaters and might even work up enough nerve for that lovely cherry blossom. Thanks for another great review, G!

Shieldmaiden, if you don't mind ordering online, Dressmaker is still available at both the Milani website and Cherry Culture. I know G recently posted about a Milani sale at Cherry Culture too, you'll have to check that to see if it's still ongoing, but even if it isn't there are regularly sales and codes to use at Cherry Culture if you have the patience to wait for/look for them.

  35. Alexis, me too. I love the craze polishes in my stash and they always last at least 4 or 5 days before I'll get a tiny chip or two. I can handle that since that's about the time I'm ready to change colors anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Can't wait for the new quads post!! :)

  37. OMG I seriously need every single one of those! Thanks for these beautiful swatches!

  49. I want ALL of them! I love the MegaLast polishes and pastels are perfect for making it feel like spring in the Midwest when there's still snow on the ground. :) The fact that I can get them all for the cost of 1 1/2 bottles of OPI and the others makes me even more excited. Thanks for the heads up!

  51. I'm on the hunt for these. I've been to my local Wags and have not seen them. I'll try to find them at Rite Aid. I really want to try these pastels. I've been wanting a lilac colored pastel.

  52. I would want to see more reviews on lipstick/lipglosses (high and low end)

    ReplyDelete
  53. has anyone been able to find these??? I've hunted down every drug store in like a 50 mile radius to me and not one place has them :(

    ReplyDelete
  54. I want all of these polishes...but haven't seen them anywhere. I live in Houston, TX...anyone else have problems finding them? It's unfortunate how the stocking of these items are so inconsistent. Wet N' Wild should start an online store! :)
