The Wednesday Question

Since we're in the middle of Review Blitz here on the blog, I thought it might be interesting to ask this question:

What are your favorite types of reviews to read here on Nouveau Cheap? Lipstick, foundation, eyeshadow, nail polish, haircare, skincare, fragrance, etc.?

Your feedback is invaluable, since I always like to give you more of what you love. Thanks in advance for your responses!

  1. I love all kinds of face makeup reviews (foundation, shadows, lipsticks, primer, bb creams, blush, mascara etc.)

  2. I love all your reviews, but my favorites are to do with makeup and nail polish.

  3. Honestly, I love to read ALL reviews, doesn't matter what it's for. I do, however, gravitate towards foundation and concealer reviews. I'm rather sensitive towards parabens so I always like to know before hand if a foundation/concealer contains those particular ingredients.

  4. Ahh...I really like most reviews you do already. I do enjoy the ones about face makeup the most (shadows, blush, lipstick, concealer, foundation, etc.) I like the ones about shower gel or fragrance because they are things I don't always think about in terms of reviews. Plus you do those non-cosmetic reviews with such frequency that they don't bother me when I see them. I find them refreshing!

  5. I like to read about eyeshadow, lipstick, and nail polish :)

  6. I like nail polish and eyeshadow the best, and I like fragrance the least. Fragrance is so subjective since it smells differently to each person and on each person that reviews for it seem almost pointless.

  7. I always love nail polish reviews, although they create too many lemmings! I enjoy the eyeshadow and lipstick ones too.

  8. foundation reviews! although my skin is a different type then yours, i still love seeing all the swatches and it gives a good idea of where i stand in a brands shade range.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I really appreciate the foundation reviews! I also love the concealer reviews as well. Those are my biggest concerns and as a person of color I love that you cover brands that have a wide variety of shades.

  10. I prefer foundations, concealers, eye makeup & lipsticks over skin & hair care. :-)

  11. Hi G,

My favorite reviews to read are definitely cream eyeshadows and foundations, because I think we have similar skin types (and eyelid types haha), so I get to read about how the foundation/cream shadow performs and gives me a good sense about what to expect if I buy certain products. Also, I love to read about potential dupes of eyeshadows, so thats always fun too. Hope that helps~ :)

  12. Foundations, lipsticks, and eyeshadows.

  13. Well my favorites are eyeshadow.. but that is because it is what I buy the most of. I enjoy all of your reviews, not so much for skin or hair care though. Those are just two areas that I seldom ever try new products for, I tend to stick to what I know works for me.

  14. I think you do amazing fragrance reviews! I enjoy the makeup ones like eyeshadow but you truly are one of the few bloggers out there that can accurately describe the complexities of fragrance.

    xx

    1. Lindsay, you have no idea how flattered I am by your comment. That means SO much to and I so very much appreciate that. Thank you, thank you! :)

  15. I love all of your reviews, but my favorites are eye makeup and fragrance. We have similar tastes in scents...I can't wait to get my Yves Rocher order! Wait, nail polishes too...I LOVE those reviews!

  16. I'm with everyone who said foundation! It's especially helpful for me since I'm just starting to use it and am trying not to freak out my skin. Second to that, eyeliner and eyeshadow reviews are my favorites. I tend to gloss over nail and fragrance reviews, because great nail blogs are abundant and fragrances are hard to describe/read about unless you've experienced many many scents and already know what each smells like, not to mention the fact that perfumes sit so differently on each individual. I am excited about reading any and all of your reviews though, these next two weeks will be so much fun!

    ReplyDelete
  17. My favorites tend to be nail polish, then lip products, then concealers, as far as non makeup is I love your body wash reviews! I just pretty much love it all!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hi, my favorite reviews are about nail polish and eyeshadow, because you can describe the color and the pigmentation very well, and feel that you are true and not trying to sell the brands like many other people do :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lipbalms/tinted lipsticks and NAIL POLISH!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Foundation and skincare! Those tend to be the priciest drugstore items and thanks to you and your awesome reviews I can save even more money. I have not purchased a foundation or skin care item that you recommended that I did not love.

    1. I agree! It's easier to find good and cheap color than to get the skincare right.

  21. I really like your skincare reviews because we both have very similar skin concerns. And that ties in with foundation reviews as well. I also look forward to your review on new products because if I bought every single new release that came out I would be broke haha! So in a way you enable me to buy a lot of things, but you also help me save money too!

  22. Any makeup products! I like them better than bath/body/hair! But I'll ready any of your reviews, because they are all top notch!!

  23. I would say makeup, specfically foundation, since I also have very oily skin. What might work for someone with dry skin might not work for me, or at least, not work the same. And I also love your bath & body/fragrance reviews. If you like, usually I do too :-)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Here they are in tiers of preference...

    1) nail polish, & makeup (eyeshadow, foundation, lipstick, blush, bronzer)
    2) skincare, haircare
    3) fragrance

    ReplyDelete
  25. Generally any color product (eyeshadow, blush, lipstick, liners, etc), nails, and concealer are my favorites, since those are what I wear most. I read just about everything, though, since I never know when I'll fall in love with something you taught me about! For swatching, I really, REALLY love to see both forearm swatches and eye/face looks. That way I can really judge how something looks in general as well as how I might personally use it. Thanks!

  26. I love all of your reviews, but since you're making me pick, I'd have to say all eye and lip product reviews first (we seem to be twinsies in those areas regarding color preferences and formulas that work). Next would be skin care and concealer/blush/foundation reviews, then nails, fragrance and body care.

Really, though, I have to throw in an extra vote for "ALL your reviews!," because you've gotten me to try products I've been skeptical about. A great example is that new L'Oreal True Match concealer crayon -- I thought it would be way too dark and/or waxy, but your review convinced me to try it and I like it better than the Smashbox concealer that I'm trying to use up!

  27. lip products, eyeshadow, foundations/powders, and skincare. Not really very interested in hair or bath/body products.

    ReplyDelete
  28. All of your makeup reviews! I especially appreciate your eyeshadow reviews when you show swatches along with the product applied.

I'm least interested in styling products, but that's only because my hair texture is different than yours.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Lipstick and eyeshadow!! I feel like that's what changes the most in our routines or what were trying to buy the most.. Foundations, powders, eyeliners.. They don't change so much.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anything and everything cruelty-free. Although I must confess, I will check out your reviews on something that isn't, knowing full well I would never make the purchase but just simply to see your review. It sound weird I guess, but I'm that much of a product junkie, and your reviews are always interesting. I also must disagree with those who dislike the fragrance reviews. Sure they smell different according to body chemistry etc but knowing the notes and composition of a perfume helps a lot of people to decide if it would be suitable for them. Plus, I agree with the folks here who commented that you do a great job waxing poetic on a scent. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. skincare for sure. I love your reviews because I have oily, acne prone skin. I'm always on the search for a light moisturizer that doesn't make me oily, so if you can be the guinea pig that's great! I know you've said it before that the reason why you don't review more skincare is because you give them such thorough testing periods. So even though I'd love to see more, I appreciate the thoughtfulness behind the approach.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Drugstore foundation and skincare. It's tough to find swatches of drugstore foundations, but I do like buying them whenever they're good ones. I'm close to your skin tone so your swatches help me a lot.

I want to learn more about good skincare products in general so the more reviews, the better! :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Although I like and read them all, my favorites are foundations, primers, and powders, lotions, body washes, and perfumes.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love all makeup and nail swatches! Also, you describe scents really nicely, so your perfume and lotion reviews are great also. I ALWAYS consult NC before buying makeup and lotions etc, so keep 'em coming! Nouveau Cheap is MY HG product :)

  35. Something strange happened, it seems like I had to open a blog to comment...how scary! Of course, now you know this is first time I comment on a blog, anyway, my favorites are about foundation and concealer, closely followed by lip and eye shadow reviews. My skin is oily too, and my dark, dark under eye circles are a constant problem.
I enjoy your fragrance reviews, even when I know, by the notes you describe, that the fragrance itself will not be to my liking, but you do a very good job evoking the scent, situation, that certain something we look for in a perfume.
I usually do not check the ones about nail polish, as my nails are on the ugly side, no matter how hard I try to shape/groom/paint them, it´s so hopeless, that I feign indifference, but they are very good too.
I like your blog very much, it is the only one I check daily!
    Have a lovely week!

  36. Dear G,

Since it appears that you and I share the same type of skin tone and skin type, I am always curious to see what kind of products you like to use. I always look for more information on face products (foundations, powders, moisturizers, etc)and value your opinions!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like your reviews in general you are very detailed i like your reviews on make up more so than skincare and fragrance

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love foundation/powder/concealer reviews, along with neutral eye shadow reviews (I know, BO-RING, right?), although my foundation and powder collections are starting to get out of hand. What I really love is that you have a well rounded set of reviews about all kinds of drugstore and budget-priced beauty products. And even if I think you and I are looking for different qualities from a certain product (mascara is one that comes to mind) I like that you will try a lot of things and make suggestions about how it could work for different people. So thanks for all you do!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love your base makeup reviews the best! (Primer, concealer, foundation)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love reviews on makeup items and nail polish. [I do read your skincare, fragrance, etc. reviews though too.] I really enjoy your thorough and detailed reviews of products! They help when deciding to spend money on a product or which color(s) to purchase!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Mostly I like all the makeup reviews, any kind of face product. You and I have similar skin type (mine's more combo than just oily) and skin color (I'm paler than you but it's close) so I like to see how makeup works on you because it's easy to extrapolate and imagine it on me. I don't wear regular nail polish or wear perfume so nail polish and fragrance reviews aren't my thing, but I love reading all the makeup reviews. (I read the others too, because you're a good reviewer and I like seeing what you have to say, even if it's about a product I won't buy.)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Definitely foundation, powders, and any lip products.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Mascara, mascara, mascara! I can never find a really good one, and when I do it gets discontinued!

    ReplyDelete
  44. My favorite reviews are definitely lip products (any), eyeliner and mascara - because those are what I use most. The least helpful to me are fragrance/body products because I'm trying to ban myself from buying any more perfume or lotions (I have way too many as it is!)/I'm picky about scents. But I just loooove reviews and yours are always great, so really, I like them all!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Nail polish, skin care and body care mostly.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Lipstick, nails, and foundation. I never use eye products, so they're of no interest to me, and I could care less about balms and tinted balms. Honestly, you've used one clear balms, you've used them all. Reviews of Vaseline and Blistex and stuff, however scented, are just really boring because they all come out clear.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm going to stick with stating what reviews I *don't* like, much easier and shorter list. I don't like the haircare or fragrance reviews. Mostly because I'm allergic or sensitive to most actual fragrances so I don't buy or wear them, and I don't do much with my hair so haircare reviews don't entertain me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Definitely foundation and skincare since your skin is just like mine:)

    ReplyDelete
  49. I read almost all of them, but I love anything to do with mattifying my T-zone, making my makeup last longer (I guess that's primers!), and eyeliner in a pencil that is truly water-resistant (contacts>smearing). Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I love all of your makeup and polish reviews! I've bought and loved quite a few lipsticks and eyeshadows based on your reviews in the past year. :)

I don't really care for the fragrance reviews, since fragrances tend to give me migraines, even the relatively mild ones in body washes. However, I can't think of another blog that reviews body washes, so I still read them, because sometimes you review products that someone I know will love. My mom loves coconut as much as you do, so I am taking her several coconut scented products you have reviewed when I go see her on spring break :D

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love all types of reviews, especially colour cosmetics. I read and love everything though!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think generally not skin/body care, but I love everything else. I feel like skin/body care is so subjective. Not that mascara isn't, but I usually end up figuring out skin/body on my own.

    ReplyDelete
  53. All kinds of reviews but what makes a difference for me is the aspect of the items reviewed, I like to know about the staying power, hydrating power, how the color shows up compare to the packaging..., things that I would have to actually use it to find out. I don't care about the ingredients or any information that I can read on the packaging myself. Thank you for a great, informative and fun site.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Although I enjoy reading all your reviews, my preferences are lip products and nail polishes.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The makeup that I actually wear most often is nail polish, so those posts are more interesting to me. I also love your lotion and lip balm reviews, because my dry Midwestern climate makes me need those things often!

    ReplyDelete
  56. In order of favorites lipbalm , foundation , blush bronzer skincare, nailpolish, but honestly I read all your reviews!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I love eyeshadow reviews the best, but read everything you publish, although I may skip the occasional fragrance review. I cannot tolerate fragrances, snif!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hmmm...I would have to say I look forward to your foundation, powder, primer, skincare, lip balm and eyeshadow reviews. I think our skintones are of similar depth and tone so that's why I look forward to it most. I'm always interested in skincare no matter what and lip balm bc my lips are ALWAYS chapped. Eyeshadow creases easily on me as well.

I tend to skim through lip, hair, and fragrance product reviews. I do take the time to read these anyway bc I love your attention to detail and bc you make it easier for me to imagine what a fragrance smells like. I skip the polish reviews unless at a glance, it's a color that interests me. But I always read your nailart--those are always fun.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I like the lipstick and nail polish reviews the best! Simply because those are the items I use and buy often. :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. I would say makeup products because the skincare and hair care stuff depends so much on your own skin/hair type. Although you do a great job of explaining your type and opinions for other types.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thank you ALL so much for the invaluable feedback! You have no idea how much it helps with planning future reviews, and i'm so grateful that you took the time to leave such thoughtful, detailed responses.

    G xo
