I haven't posted a Have you tried... in a long time, so I thought it would be fun to revisit this question once again.
For new readers, Have you tried...? is where I ask you about new products that I personally have not yet had a chance to try. Your responses will help all of us to better determine whether or not we might be willing to give these new goodies a shot, so if you've tried any of these new products, feel free to include as much detail as you'd like in your response!
Have you tried:
(mascara or gel liners)
Have you tried any of the above new products? If so, please share your thoughts with us! Did you like them? Hate them? Love them? Why?
I have not tried any of them! Are they brand new or am I slacking? Lol
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yep(click the links to see 'em). Some are newer than others (some have been out for a few months) but yes, NEW! And I wish I could try them *all*! :)
ReplyDeleteYes...tried the PF gel liners....they are just 'okay'. I have seen better and want to try the shimmer sticks (I think that is what they are called). I need more practice with gel liners though but the silver was pretty disappointing. My technique is average but I felt that the silver color didn't apply well.
ReplyDeleteI've tried the Glam Brown Eyes liners and I think they are nice. The gold applies the sheerest but it'd make for a great eyeshadow base. The bronze applies a little lighter on the skin (in my experience) than in the pot. The black is extremely nice and the shimmer does actually show up!
ReplyDeleteI have the Hide & Glow Cheek Tint in "In Love." I'm not crazy about it. Low color payoff, and once I apply enough for it to show up, it stays a little sticky. Even when I blend it out and set it with powder, I can feel a tackiness if I touch my cheeks.
ReplyDeleteWon't repurchase this product.
I have not tried the new "Glam" stuff from Physicians Formula, but I really want to!!! I have 1 set of the gel liners, and I love them! They are such a good value! If you could find them and swatch them, that would be amazing! :D
ReplyDeleteI also have one of the not-glam mascaras (double ended black and pink), and it is also really great. The black mascara is very high quality (I was expected something crappy; I just bought it for the pink). The only thing I wish was that it came in waterproof! The pink color is pretty nifty, if you're into colored mascaras. It looks kind of purple (in the tube and on the eyes).
meredith: Awwww, I'm so sorry to hear that. When you say the silver didn't apply well, do you mean that it wasn't smooth, or that the color payoff was weak? Thanks! Oh, and what are shimmer sticks? Can you describe them to me?
ReplyDeleteMai: Interesting! So the colored ones have weaker pigmentation than the black for you? Great to know that the shimmer in the black is visible--I didn't find that to be the case in the automatic liners! :)
scheherezhad: Thanks for the detailed info! The prospect of weak pigmentation and a sticky finish have me wondering if this product would work well for me, since I LOVE highly pigmented blushes. :(
Elizabeth: Thanks for the info! I have reviewed the (original) set of PF gel liners for green eyes on my blog, but if I can get the Glam ones I'll definitely review them w/ swatches. And that's great to know about the quality of the mascara--I am LOVING the PF Organic Wear Jumbo Lash Mascara that I reviewed a little while back, so it looks like PF has really stepped up their game when it comes to quality mascaras!
ReplyDeleteI have tried the Loreal Magic Smooth Mousse foundation. I really like it and am going to allow it to replace my beloved mineral foundation. It gives light to medium buildable coverage, evens my skin tone and helps to disguise my Lake Superior sized pores.
ReplyDeleteThis foundation has the added benefit of some SPF from natural minerals. No chemical sunblock in this foundation. Yay!!!
It applies smoothly, I use a sponge to apply, tho I am thinking about grabbing a foundation brush and trying that. It doesn't cover dark circles or darker spots, I need concealer fo those things, but I needed it with mineral foundation, too so no biggie.
I am quite fair and I was afraid that the lightest shade, Light Ivory would be too dark, as it looks a little dark in the jar. But when I applied it, it came out nice and light. If you are pale, pale porcelain, this foundation might be a little dark for you.
Okay, I just wrote a book in your comments. lol Loreal had better not discontinue this foundation.
The gold liner still shows up well because it is bright against my skin color and it's best with a 2nd pass. The bronze is so so gorgeous too
ReplyDeleteThe only one of those I've tried is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream - I did a bunch of swatch posts and reviewed them on my blog. They're okay - they do last pretty well, but because I can only get them online I have to guess at the colours, and most of the ones I bought are not really my cup of tea. There are two that I have worn a couple of times and two I would probably never wear in a million years. I find them a bit drying too.
ReplyDeleteG,
ReplyDeleteYes-my mistake they are the shimmer strips eye enhancing trio. Those are the ones that I want to try but are difficult to find in Canada. However, the best news is that I got the mood boost powder ON SALE and got a $6.00 rebate as well! I ended up getting the powder for $6.00 which is just about unheard of in Canada!
As far as the gel liners....when I applied the silver, it didn't go on evenly-I tried short strokes and just lightly dragging it across my eye but I just could not achieve a solid silver line! Ack! I want to say it's the product but I am going to give it one more try with a different brush!
Thanks for asking!
no but i want to try the gel liners but they are not in my area. i called physicians formula and they said to try target.
ReplyDeleteG, do you know where i can find the gel liners my walmart carries the glam collection mascar but not the gel liners.
ReplyDeleteI tried the PF gel liner trio in Glam eyes Blue (silver, blue, & black with silver glitter) for my brown eyes because I loved the blue colour. I loved them at first, they were smooth with no tugging. Yes, I had to pass over a few times to get the colour intensity but I'm fairly used to that. The problem I had after about 3 weeks was they started flaking into my eyes. As I wear contacts, you can imagine how fun that was. Sharp scratching & burning too as 2 of the 3 colours have glitter. I hope this was just a wonky batch as I would like to try more to see.

ReplyDeleteSo, for the past few weeks, I’ve been using L’Oreal Paris’ Magic Smooth Souffle foundation in 530 Sun Beige. It’s a product quite similar to Maybelline New York’s Dream Matte Mousse in that it also has a light whipped sort of texture. The formula is nice and light on the skin, but brushes tend to pick up a lot of product. For my Dream Matte Mousse foundation, I tended to use a stippling brush to apply, but with the Magic Smooth Souffle, it picked way too much product and caused the bristles to stick together. So, I resorted to using a foundation brush. This product also tends to feel rather oily for a half-hour or so after application, so I don’t recommend this to those with oily skin. As for my skin type, I never know what type of skin I have. I tend to break out quite a bit, but my face is rarely oily feeling. :P
ReplyDeleteI love the L'Oreal Magic Smooth souffle. I was pleasantly surprised. The texture is lovely. The finish is nice, too. Classic Ivory 512 is a perfect match (I *think* I am a Mac NW20). I apply with a stippling brush. It truly creates a flawless finish. BTW, I am 49 with normal to slightly dry skin. As with all of these kind of foundations, be sure to remove any dry skin "flakies" before application. I should also mention that I always use a sunscreen before any foundation. Lately my favorite HG sunscreen has been Olay ProX spf 30 age repair lotion.
ReplyDeleteI have 3 of the Hard Candy cheek stain/tints. I am very "meh" about them. Nothing special.
I have several of the PF cream eyeliners. I never reach for them. High end: Mac and Bobbi Brown cream/gel liners are my "go to's". They've never failed me. Clinique wins second runner up. HIP and Maybelline versions are my drugstore choices for top winners.
cute post!!
ReplyDeletelove this style
congratulations!!!=P
xoxo
I have tried 3 out of 4 products.
ReplyDelete-Hard Candy Cheek Tints: Great way to get two cream blush colors in a portable stick form. Color pay off is decent and I haven't check for lasting time.
L'Oreal Souffle: I have was hoping for this to be a better version of Maybelline's Mousse, and I think it is for me. I don't get flaking like I did with Maybelline's. For drugstore foundation $13-$15 is a bit much and I am unsure if I will repurchase.
NYX Matte Lip Cream:LOVELOVELOVE!
These are what I would call "Liquid lipsticks". VERY SMOOTH! I have two colors :Stockholm and Abu Dhabi. Love them both and plan to get more!!
Hi G!
ReplyDeleteI've tried the Hard Candy Hide & Glow Cheek Tints and the L'Oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation. I really like the cheek tints b/c they go on easy and last a long time and you can use them as a base for powder blush + you get 2 colors!
The foundation I tried some samples that I found at the store. I do like this because it goes on so smoothly and feels very lightweight.
I have tried 3 out of the 4 you've listed.
ReplyDeleteNYX Soft Matte Lip Creams.
I adore this product. Ulta finally stocked a lot of the new NYX products and this was one of them. I got Addis Ababa, Antwerp, and Istanbul.
I even use these as cream blushes and they're lovely.
Of course they're drying. I'm not gonna lie, but I usually apply gloss on top.
Hard Candy Hide and Glow Cheek Tint.
I have two of these. They are a bit sticky once applied and they do apply sheer but nothing some finishing powder on top can't fix. These are nice but I don't think I would repurchase these.
L'oreal Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation.
I saw some samples in all the drugstores that I went to. At Ulta's it was pretty much pillaged. People even opened the samples, swiped at it and just left it there! Yuck! I took one home to try and I really liked it! I haven't bought a full size but am thinking about it.
I haven't tried any of these but I'm very annoyed with all of you people for making me want to try the souffle foundation. I already have like 9 or 10 foundations going! I don't need another! But this sounds so good that I want it!
ReplyDeleteOoooo did you all see that Wet n Wild is 50% off at Rite Aid this week? I think Revlon and Almay (lip and face only for both) are 40% off there too. The other stores didn't have any deals that interested me. I still haven't picked up any of the new WnW stuff so I'll be making a trip to Rite Aid this week. Since the 8 pans are exclusive to Walgreens and Walmart I guess I'll be getting the nail polishes and trios instead.
I've tried the NYX Soft Matte lip creams and I love them. I don't usually wear lip products (I don't like how they just sit on my lips) but I like how these feel. I also like the matte look as opposed to glossy. I have four colors and San Paolo (a creamy berry color) is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteWet n Wild is NOT 50% off at Rite Aid this week. Sorry folks, I misread it, it's BOGO50. Still not bad since they are giving out $2 in extra bucks if you buy $5 (okay, it's not called extra bucks there, but same thing and I'm having a brain fart remembering what they call it at Wags.)
ReplyDeleteI have one of the Hard Candy Hide & Glow Cheek Tints. I'm not crazy about it. It's very sheer and not terribly buildable. I also felt like the texture was sort of odd. It's a little on the sticky side. All in all, I'm not in love with these. :)
ReplyDeleteI've tried the Loreal Magic Smooth Souffle Foundation and I did not like it. It didn't look right- very makeupy- not like skin at all. And I don't feel like it really "blends"- it kind of just "pills" off my face. Coverage is light and it does emphasize my dryness. So a no for me :)
ReplyDeleteI've also tried the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream. It have it in the color Stockholm (I think). It's a very pretty matte formula but definitely can emphasize dryness (as any matte can). I do love how light it feels though- not like lipstick, more like a stain almost.. A bit undecided still though as I haven't been wearing it lately- my lips need moisture right now!! Maybe once the weather warms up a bit..
Oh and I forgot to mention, the Loreal foundation doesn't last past about an hour for me! And I have dry skin!! So that's definitely a no for me!
ReplyDeleteAffordableBeauty, you've convinced me that I don't need to try that foundation. I love you! lol
ReplyDeleteLadies! YOU ARE THE BEST! I really mean that. Reading all of your comments has helped me SO much to have a better idea about all of these new goodies, and I know I'm not alone! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking the time to leave such wonderful, detailed reviews! xo
ReplyDeleteI'm a PF gel liner fiend. I was so happy to hunt down the glam strips, because I was constantly talking myself down from adding a third set of the originals to my collection. (Green and Blue eyes.)
ReplyDeleteI've found that they are a bit more metallic than the original ones, and a few of the colors are lighter, both affect the payoff when you lay the liner down.
I have the Green and Brown eyes sets in the glam. I'd say the lightest color I have is the silver in the green set, and it honestly just takes going over it twice and I can get it to show up pretty well even over darker eyeshadow on my top lash line.
I do apply with my own brush, I have one of the ones with the very thin, cylindrical head, and I tend to go for a very thin, heavy line with gel liners.
I definitely don't suggest the Hard Candy cheek tints. The color barely showed up AT ALL. Because I couldn't really see it in the first place I can't say anything about the lasting power...and I did try putting on more but it's rather sticky and I just didn't like it.
