In my humble opinion, no one does at-home waxing better than Sally Hansen (when it comes to drugstore products, that is). I'm a huge fan of this microwavable, no-strip kit, which I use every single month on my brows.
So this really caught my eye when I saw it at Rite Aid the other day:
Right: Sally Hansen Simple Spa Wax Warmer Kit
(retail: $19.99 at Rite Aid)
Left: Sally Hansen Simple Spa Wax Refill Kit
(retail: $9.99 at Rite Aid)
(notice the $3 off tear pad coupon on this display)
Here are my initial reactions to this kit: I like that it seems more professional since it comes with its own warmer, which functions like a coffee warmer or a candle warmer. Apparently you place the tin inside the warmer, plug it in and wait for the wax to warm up.
But that said, if I'm just doing my eyebrows, I'd much prefer to pop the wax in the microwave and be done in a few minutes. If you're going to be doing a major waxing (face, legs, etc.) I can definitely see the benefit of having a warmer there by your side the entire time though. The microwavable version I use does cool down quickly and it's pretty much solid by the time I'm done waxing my brows.
So I can really see both sides to this new kit. If you're a major at-home waxer, this could be great for you! And the $3 coupon certainly helps (as well as the BOGO1/2OFF going on at Rite Aid this week).
What do you think? Does this seem like a kit that would work well for your particular hair removal needs? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
want want want! i hate microwaving, or even worse, heating wax on the stove!
ReplyDeleteG, if you are JUST doing your eyebrows or other facial hair, I highly recommend the Anastacia mini brow wax kit from Sephora. It's like $12 and has lasted me a YEAR! oops! they changed the name but its the same http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P279508&categoryId=C10474

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I would have the patience to wax any larger areas than my eyebrows. But, I'm with you, I love Sally Hansen's microwavable wax! It saved my eyebrows because I am too cheap to go to the salon and too lazy to tweeze!
ReplyDeleteOh! And the other thing I like about Sally Hansen's eyebrow wax is that you don't need strips! For me that just means one less step to mess up, haha.
ReplyDeletej: Thanks so much for the tip! I love love love Anasatasia but not her prices, so this looks awesome! So cheap! :D
ReplyDeleteJessi: I TOTALLY agree. That's why I keep coming back to that kit--no strips is awesome!
At my CVS some of the Sally Hansen waxing kits were marked down 75% off, unfortunately, I don't wax. I tweeze my brows and shave my legs/underarms. So I just barely noticed it so I don't know what the kits were for, names of them, or anything like that.
ReplyDeleteI have some serious Sally love. but they've let me down in the past in the hair-removal department (painfully) so I'm leery. I don't think I'm going to give up my Gigi Microwavable pot anytime soon-- $7 at SBS and it lasts more than a year.
ReplyDeleteI really, really need to wax my brows. I think I'll swing by the drug store to see if any of this is on sale before going to a salon or nail place for them to do my brows. Thanks for letting us know!
ReplyDeleteI have used the Sally Hansen Microwaveable wax kit for my eyebrows for YEARS now. But my pot of wax is nearly gone, so when I saw this simple spa kit at Rite Aid on Friday, I grabbed it. Tried it out earlier tonight and I LOVE it. The wax stays warm the whole time. I have issues with the microwaveable wax getting all thick and gloopy in the middle of my waxing. Maybe I'm a slow waxer. :)
ReplyDeleteThe wax itself seems to be pretty much the same as the wax in the microwaveable kit. The refills are 2/9.99, so the actual pots of wax are just ever-so-slightly cheaper than the microwaveable stuff, which is 5.99 for 1 pot.
Anyway, I really liked this and I think it's going to replace the microwaveable kit. Word of warning, though -- the instructions say that the wax takes 25 minutes to warm. It actually took mine a bit longer -- 35-40 minutes. Which is fine for a weekend evening when I have nothing to do, but if you need to wax your eyebrows really quickly, it's not so great.
I just bought this and used it for the first time yesterday. VERY disappointed. The directions state that the wax will be ready in 25 minutes. HA!! I had it on for over TWO HOURS and it still was barely soft in a few spots. After almost THREE hours I was finally able to get enough melted wax to try using it. The wooden Popsicle sticks that are included as applicators are awful. They make it difficult to apply the wax and it dribbles all over the place.
ReplyDeleteThe wax smells nice and it did eventually work but who has almost FOUR hours to do this? I will probably return this, since I feel it was a terrible waste of money.
I just bought the Simple Spa Wax Warmer Kit today, and 2 hours later it is still not ready to use. Package instert said 25 minutes. If I knew 2 hours later I would still be waiting I would have spend much less on the microwave version.
ReplyDeleteI just bought the Simple Spa Wax Warmer Kit it took about an hr (AT MOST) to warm up. After about 20 minutes of waiting for the wax to melt, I realized the wax tin wasn't pushed ALL THE WAY in. So if you use this product make sure that its pushed in and stir occasionally to speed up the melting process.
ReplyDeletereally bad product. I waited over an hour for wax to melt. And I did make sure it was pushed all the way down. return it to the pharmacy. what a waste of my time!
ReplyDeleteI purchased the Sally Hansen Simple Wax and hands down it is your worst product. I also purchased the refills. I can't even use it. It DOES NOT take 25 minutes to heat. Right now, on my 2nd try to use the product, it has been heating for 3 hours. Last time I gave up after 4 hours. I really want my money back. I purchased it online. You should have done more testing and you should now take this off the market. I am afraid to use it on my skin. It's a waste of my money and time.
ReplyDeleteDO NOT buy this product. It DOES NOT heat the wax. Directions say it should take 25 minutes to warm up. After an hour still hard as a rock. Such a waste of time. The microwave hard wax is much more time effective and is basically the same wax. You can always heat up the wax again in the microwave if it gets too hard.
ReplyDeleteI just reviewed the Sally Hansen Simple Spa Warmer Kit. Once the wax melted, and it took a loooooooggg time, it worked wonderfully! I would definitely recommend the product, but would warn about heat up time. Once I let it heat for hours a day over a couple of days the wax become easy to heat and use.
ReplyDeleteIf you push the can of wax down into the pot until it wont go any farther, it will heat up in the proper amount of time. It has to touch the hot plate inside the warmer to heat up properly.
