Swatches: New Palladio Herbal Eyeshadow Quads (and an exclusive code!)

As many of you know, Palladio released six new Herbal Eyeshadow Quads recently, and in this post I showed you the first three. Now I've got the second three to show you, and boy are they pretty.

But before we start, I have some important news! Ever since I showed you the new Palladio Felt-Tip Eyeliner Pen, I've received probably 5 emails/comments per week asking when this new liner will be available at Sally Beauty. Unfortunately, I don't have that info for you yet, but Palladio was kind enough to issue an exclusive discount code for use on their site, just for Nouveau Cheap readers! The Felt-Tip eyeliner is now on their site and it retails for $8.

The code is NOUVEAU and it's good for $5 off a $30 purchase on the Palladio website. Just enter that code at checkout to receive your discount (note: I am not being compensated for use of this code--in other words, I will make no money if you purchase something from the Palladio site; this is just a code given to me for you, my readers).

PLEASE NOTE: This code is only good for the first 100 readers who use it. After that, it will become inactive, so don't wait if you're thinking about making a puchase!

Also, don't forget that the amazing new Herbal Precision Eyeliners are available on the site too (I swear, the liner in Black Onyx stays on my waterline longer than any other liner I have ever used in my life. I'm completely obsessed with it and if you missed my review, you can see what it looks like on my waterline after seven hours here. It's pretty amazing.)

To see all of my previous Palladio reviews, you can click here.

Whew! OK, now on to the three quads:

 Palladio Herbal Eyeshadow Quads
(retail: $8 each)

Let me just say this: if the other three quads in this collection were too bright for you, then you are going to love these. If you're a neutral or earthtone lover who prefers mattes and satins over lots of shimmer or sparkle, these are for YOU. All three quads have just one or two shimmery shades in them, but even the shimmers aren't SUPER shimmery, but more like satins. The mattes in these quads are super creamy and easy to work with, and overall I've given these quads the nickname "My weekday go-to shadows".  LOVE.

It's really difficult for me to photograph light-colored mattes since they seem to blend right into my skintone. In person, these are vivid shades but since they match my skintone, it's hard to see them.

If you've never used a Palladio Herbal Eyeshadow before, you should know that they're paraben-free and they also contain some skin-loving ingredients such as shea butter (which, in my opinion, gives them that extra-creamy quality). I love these shadows and I think they work well on their own, but even better with primer.

Thanks for reading, and please let me know if you end up using that code. I don't get many Nouveau Cheap exclusive codes to offer you, so when I do, it's kind of exciting and I'd love to know if you actually use it! Thanks, lovelies!

HUGE Wet n Wild news!

A few commenters on my "dream products" post from yesterday said that they would love to see Wet n Wild release an all-matte eyeshadow palette (in fact, over the past several months, I've heard from many of you who would like to see this as well). I must admit, I had to bite my tongue when I saw your comments, but I can now tell you that your dreams are about to come true!

Wet n Wild is going to release an
ALL MATTE COLORICON 8-PAN EYESHADOW PALETTE

I don't have all of the details just yet, but here's what I can tell you:
  • It will be Limited Edition (for now)
  • It will have the same packaging as the existing Coloricon 8-pan palettes
  • It will only be sold at select retailers (I do not know yet which retailers will carry it)
  • It will ONLY contain matte eyeshadows
  • The release date for this palette will be later this year (I'll get you an exact date when it becomes available)
IMPORTANT: Sadly, with the news of this awesome new product, I must tell you that the beloved Color Icon 6-pan eyeshadow palettes are going to be discontinued. But don't worry: YOU STILL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO STOCK UP. The official discontinuation date is January 2012, but since each retailer is different, it will probably take a good six months until they're completely off all store shelves. So you've still got about a year to buy back-ups/hoard these/say your fond farewells.

So, what do you think of this news? Are you as excited as I am to see what colors are going to be in this new Wet n Wild matte 8-pan? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Nouveau Cheap Exclusive: your first look at the new Wet n Wild Color Icon 8-pan palettes!

UPDATE: To see eye looks I have created using all three of these palettes, please click here.

The time is finally here, my lovelies! This is Wet n Wild Week here at Nouveau Cheap, and I'm bringing you all of the new 2011 Wet n Wild releases all week long! We've got polishes, mascaras, eyeshadow trios and more, so check back daily for the scoop.

I'm kicking things off with the products we've all been waiting for: the Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection 8-pan palettes! As an official Wet n Wild Beauty Ambassador, I am so incredibly honored to say that this is a Nouveau Cheap exclusive. You won't find these anywhere else (for now) and I cannot WAIT to show them to you!

But before we get to pictures and swatches, I want to remind you of a few things first in case you missed my original post:
  • These new 8-pan palettes are only available in select retailers. For now, you can only purchase them at Walgreens and Walmart. So please, don't drive yourself crazy looking for these at CVS, Rite Aid, etc. because you will not find them there.
  • These are NOT limited edition. They are part of the core collection, so we are all going to happily avoid the Night Elf Frenzy of 2010. There's plenty for everyone and they're sticking around!
So let's get started! And in case you're one of those people who scrolls straight to pictures and doesn't bother reading commentaries, I'll just tell you right up front that each palette contain multiple different finishes, the textures are of excellent quality (as good or better than previous Color Icon shadows), they are highly pigmented and each palette contains at least two dupes--quite possibly more.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection
(retail: $4.99 each at Walgreens and Walmart beginning mid-January)

NOTE: ALL OF THE FOLLOWING SHADOWS WERE SWATCHED WITHOUT PRIMER ON BARE SKIN

Let's start with Comfort Zone (I deliberately made the following collages quite large so that you can click on them and magnify them to really see the details of each swatch):

Lovelies, our dreams have become a reality:

the Club dupe that was in the Night Elf palette is in the Comfort Zone palette.

Oh, and the Vex dupe too! And since we're talkin' dupes here, that bronzey-brown is really reminding me of Romp but I'll get back to you on that.

If I didn't know any better, I'd think that Wet n Wild made this palette just for me. I mean, earthtones, bronzey-browns, greens AND the Club and Vex dupes? All in ONE palette? This is literally the palette I would create if I were in the Wet n Wild labs and they said, "Gianna, go hog wild. Make whatever you want."

What you need to know about Comfort Zone:

Shimmers: 5 (including Vex and possible Romp dupe)
Duochromes: 1 (Club dupe)
Mattes with sparkle: 2 (deep olive-black with gold sparkle and black with bronze sparkle)

I know there are more dupes in this palette but it's going to take me a little while to find them all, so please check back later for that info.

And in case you were wondering, here's how Comfort Zone and Night Elf compare:

Next up: Petal Pusher:

Petal Pusher was a hard one to capture in photos. These picture do NOT do this palette justice. The bottom left shade looks blue on camera, but in real life it's much more of a true violet purple and it's gorgeous (my swatches are pretty accurate). But by far, the standout shade in this palette, for me, is that gorgeous muted plum with the bronze shimmer. I'm pretty sure this is a dupe for either MAC Sable or Twinks but I'll need to investigate further.

Also the very light pink/white shade in the upper left corner of this palette is a satin matte white with a subtle violet-pink flash (I could NOT capture this in a photo). This reminds me so much of my beloved and long-ago discontinued Urban Decay Road Stripe!

Also, the shade underneath the "Road Stripe dupe" is a stunning lavender satin matte that flashes the tiniest hint of gold in certain lights. Oh my goodness is it beautiful in real life! I can't even think of a shade that compares to this off-hand.

What you need to know about Petal Pusher:

Shimmers: 4 (including possible Sable/Twinks dupe)
Satin Mattes: 2 (including possible Road Stripe dupe)
Mattes with sparkle: 2 (soft black with pink sparkle and intense black with silver, green and pink sparkle)

And finally we have Blue Had Me At Hello:

As soon as I swatched this palette I recognized that deep royal blue shimmer. I think it's a dupe of MAC Contrast or maybe Deep Truth, but like with my other hunches, I'll get back to you on that one! Also, that gorgeous bright teal has a golden sheen to it that you can't really detect in photos. Possibly a dupe for MAC Gulf Stream.

What you need to know about Blue Had Me At Hello:

Shimmers: 5 (including possible Contrast/Deep Truth and Gulf Stream dupes)
Mattes: 1 (black)
Mattes with sparkle: 2 (soft black with blue sparkle and intense black with silver sparkle)

Final Verdict: if you missed out on the LE Pixie Holiday palettes, don't even sweat it because I believe these are BETTER. All three of these new 8-pan palettes are must-haves in my book. The quality of the shadows is top notch, and I actually believe that the Club and Vex dupes in Comfort Zone have better pigmentation than the shades in the Night Elf palette (and the pigmentation in Night Elf is pretty amazing). Consider these new 8-pan palettes the Pixie Holiday palettes on steroids. Bigger, better, and with even more dupes! When you spot these at Walgreens or Walmart this month, grab 'em. I don't think you'll regret this purchase for a second because I can think of nothing else at the drugstore level that currently compares to these palettes.

Your first glimpse: Yardley London Limited Edition Holiday 2010 Soaps

Even if you're not a bar soap fan, you've probably at least heard of Yardley London soaps. Cruelty free and available at drugstores, grocery stores and even dollar stores, they're quite easy to find and I think they're such a delight to use. I've raved about them in the past (Yardley's Honeysuckle Citrus soap from their Naturals line won my Cheapie Award for best bar soap of 2009) because I love how I can rub them into my bath pouf and get the same amount of  lovely fragrance and rich lather as any of my favorite body washes. At under $3 a piece, they also last forever, making them a great bargain to boot.

I was over-the-moon excited when I heard what the limited edition holiday 2010 Yardley London soaps were going to be, and now that I have them in my hot little hands, I'm even MORE excited! I'm tickled to be able to give you a first-glimpse of them today!

Yardley London Limited Edition Vanilla Sugar
Yardley London Limited Edition Orange Spice
(retail: around $1.99 each)

These are the times when I really, really wish I had smell-o-vision as an option on this blog. I want each and every one of you to be able to sniff these because they are both so lovely and they just get me right into the holiday spirit! I keep going back and forth as to which is my favorite, but I honestly can't decide.

Vanilla Sugar, with its cocoa butter, oatmeal and wheat bran, has a warm, comforting scent to it and, to my nose, smells sort of like B&BW Warm Vanilla Sugar, but a touch creamier and more natural-smelling. I'd say that if you like the B&BW version, you will probably enjoy Vanilla Sugar. When I smell it, I immediately think "soft and feminine". Like putting on some vanilla bean lotion and then slipping into a soft, snuggly sweater.

Orange Spice, which contains orange oil and ginger essence, is exactly what I hoped it to be. It's a lively, rich combination of both orange and ginger with a kick of spice, and I think it would be ideal for a guest bath during the holidays. It's just got fall and winter written all over it. When I smell it, I instantly crave orange spice tea with a stick of cinnamon. (I just went into my bathroom to take another sniff and, yep, I'm craving orange spice tea with cinnamon again.)

Left: Yardley London Vanilla Sugar
Right: Yardley London Orange Spice

If you are a "warm and cozy" holiday scent lover, I think you might fall in love with these limited edition Yardley soaps.  Keep an eye out for them at your local drugstores (they should be popping up any minute now in the seasonal section) and give them a sniff (you can definitely smell them through the box). If you're like me, I think you'll find them a little bit irresistable for the holidays.

Have you ever tried a Yardley London soap? What are some of your favorite fragrances? Are you excited about these LE holiday goodies? I'd love to hear from you!

Exclusive swatches of the new Jesse's Girl Mineralized Shadows (plus a primer review!)

I was very honored last week to receive all six of the new Jesse's Girl Mineralized Baked Eye Shadows before they hit stores and the Jesse's Girl website, and today I'm going to show you swatches of each color, plus a few eye looks I did with some of the shades. These will retail for $3.99 each and should be available on the JG website, as well as Rite Aid, in just a few weeks.

But let's start with the Jesse's Girl Eye Shadow Primer, which I also received for review. This retails for $5.99 and you can purchase it on the Jesse's Girl site.

This primer is on the creamy side (not as dry as Urban Decay, but not as runny as the silicone-based Hard Candy eye primer) and it goes on a little wet, so be sure to give it a minute or two to dry before you start to apply your shadows.

I"ve been using it every day for a few days now, and when used with the Jesse's Girl Mineralized Baked Eye Shadows, I have to say that it's a winning combo. This primer really pumps up the color of the baked shadows and it keeps them in place all day on my lids without fading or creasing. I'm really impressed by this primer--especially given the low price!

Now on to the shadows:

(for larger images, click here)

Here are swatches of the entire Mineralized Baked Eye Shadow Collection--I swiped each shade with and without the Jesse's Girl Eye Primer underneath, just so you can see the difference in pigmentation:

I'd say that all of these swatches are extremely accurate in terms of color, with the exception of Ocean Breeze, which is actually a cooler blue than it appears here. It's more on the electric-blue end of the spectrum, and these swatches really do not do it justice.

Now for the eye looks:

For my first look, I used the beautiful Esmeralda from lash line to brow (it's actually more beige than it looks in the pan) and Plum Frost in my outer "v". Both shades applied very smoothly and were easy to work with and blend. I lined my eyes with the green shade in the Physicians Formula Gel Cream Eyeliner Trio for Green Eyes. I thought it would be nice to play up the subtle green undertone in Esmeralda by using a bolder green liner.

For my second look, I used Rosemary Frost as a wash from lash line to crease. This is the only shade I'm wearing on my lids. To line my eyes, I used Graphite Frost, which was extremely easy to use as a liner (I just ran my liner brush under water for a second and picked up the shadow directly from the pan).

For both eye looks, I used the Jesse's Girl Eye Primer before applying the shadows.

All in all, I am very pleased with these new shades (and the primer!). For $3.99, I think they're an excellent value considering you can use them in so many ways (sheer wash, intense pop of color, and also to line the eyes). The one thing I have not tried yet is using these shadows wet (foiling) but I'm pretty sure they'll work well in that capacity too.

The only tiny issue I have with these shadows is that all of the shades except for Ocean Breeze and Kiwi Shine contain silver sparkles, which will cause a bit of fallout during application. I am getting better about working with shadows that have fallout (it seems that so many of these baked shadows have this issue) but if you're a beginner, I suggest applying your shadow BEFORE your foundation, so that you can more easily wipe the fallout away (or just purchase Ocean Breeze or Kiwi Shine!).

That's it for this review--I hope you found it useful and, as always, I'd love to hear from you!

Introducing the new and improved Jesse's Girl Mineralized Baked Powder Eye Shadows!

FOR SWATCHES OF THESE SHADES, PLEASE CLICK HERE.

What would Labor Day Weekend (here in the US) be without a little eye candy, right? When I went to the post office today, I was super excited to see that I had received these newly repackaged and reformulated Jesse's Girl Mineralized Baked Powder Eye Shadows for review, so even though I haven't had time to swipe or test these pretty shadows yet, I just HAD to take some photos to share with you!

[Edit: 9/4/10] Huge thanks to Jesse's Girl for allowing me the opportunity to provide you with a sneak preview of these shadows! They are not yet available at Rite Aid or on the Jesse's Girl website, but they will be in a couple weeks! Also, the retail price for these shadows will be $3.99

So let's take a peek at these babies!

The first thing you'll notice is that the packaging is much different than the original Jesse's Girl Baked Shadows, which you can see here. Also, you'll notice in a minute that the colors have changed as well--a few of the shades look a little similar to ones from the old collection but for the most part, these are all brand new colors!

The new cases are sturdy, substantial, and they make a nice "click" sound when you close them. In fact, at first they reminded me of the Maybelline Eye Studio Baked Shadows, so I pulled my Sinful Cinnamon duo out so I could compare them side-by-side:

Notice how the pans are about the same size, but how the Maybelline package looks a little bit boxy compared to the Jesse's Girl package? In my opinion, the Jesse's Girl compact is just a tad more sleek and the corners are a little bit rounded, compared to the sharper corners of the Maybelline compact.

Hopefully this picture gives you a better idea as to what I'm talking about. Notice how the corners of the Maybelline shadow look sharper than the Jesse's Girl compact? The lucite/plastic is thicker as well, and after opening and closing each compact, you can really feel how substantial the Jesse's Girl compact is--it's got weight to it (don't worry, it's not heavy or anything) and it just feels very nice in my hand.

Now I'd like to show you all six shades in this newly revamped collection
(retail for each shadow will be $3.99):

(click to enlarge and again to magnify)

(be sure to take a closer look at Graphite Frost--if you look closely you'll see it has beautiful iridescent violet blue sparkles running through it)

So what do you think of these new & improved Jesse's Girl Mineralized Baked Powder Eyeshadows so far? Are you curious to see swatches and eye looks? I'll be playing with these over the weekend, so please check back next week for a complete set of swatches and probably a few eye looks as well!

A Nouveau Cheap Exclusive: e.l.f. at Target this March (I've got the pictures!)

Earlier today I mentioned that I had a surprise for you, and I hope you'll agree that this is pretty darn exciting! A HUGE thanks to the folks at e.l.f. for allowing me to break this news first, exclusively for Nouveau Cheap readers! I am humbled and grateful to say that I've got your first look at the new e.l.f. display that will hit all Target stores across the nation this March!

While I do not have a list of the individual products yet, you can look closely at these images to determine exactly what you can expect to find at your Target very, very soon! Some of the items that definitely caught my eye are products that many of you were HOPING we'd see at Target, such as e.l.f. Studio brushes, eyeshadow singles, Complexion Perfection, blushes, bronzers, glosses, concealers and more!

Also, I know a lot of you were hoping to see e.l.f. Elements Custom Eyes, which I also spotted in this display, as well as my beloved e.l.f. Eyeshadow Brush, All Over Color Sticks and SO much more!

Take a look at these photos and let me know what you think! Are you as excited as I am about having this selection of e.l.f. and Studio products available at your fingertips next month?

I can't wait to hear your thoughts, so please leave a comment and let me know if you're excited by this new selection, and of course I would love to hear what products in particular you're looking forward to picking up at Target next month!

A Nouveau Cheap Exclusive: Massive Cosmetics Sale at Rite Aid This Week!

I don't get many exclusives here at Nouveau Cheap, but when I do, I am always so humbled and grateful! Which is exactly how I felt this weekend when this email hit my mailbox, directly from Rite Aid!

I am delighted to share with you the inside scoop about this sale, which isn't going to be publicized until tomorrow (Tuesday):

For three days only (Thursday, Feb. 11th through Saturday, Feb. 13th) ALL COSMETICS at Rite Aid will be 25% off. No minimum purchase required.

Here are the details:
  • Coupons (including manufacturer's coupons) WILL be accepted and can be used in conjunction with this discount
  • No rainchecks will be issued
  • Discount applies to regularly priced items only (no additional discount will be applied to clearance items)
Also, I asked about how this will work with the usual weekly BOGOs and here are the details concerning that:

BOGOS are only valid if they result in a greater discount. In other words, if the BOGO gets you a better price, you get that price. If the 25 percent off is somehow greater, you get that one (but not both).

[Update: Thanks to my lovely follower on Twitter, @cutegingerbread, for asking me about rebates. I can confirm that if you purchase a product that has a rebate offer attached, the rebate still applies during this sale. Yay!]

So what does this mean for us? Well, I'm thinking of all the cosmetics brands at Rite Aid that I very rarely see go on sale (Tropez, Black Radiance, Prestige, Carmindy etc.), as opposed to the brands that seem to always go on sale (Revlon, Maybelline, CoverGirl, etc.). An extra 25% off on a bottle of Tropez nail polish will make it 75 cents instead of a dollar. Little things like that can add up to one fun haul! And if you've got coupons for brands like L'Oreal, Revlon, etc. this sale can definitely be worth your while.

So if you've got a Rite Aid near you, mark your calenders for this Thursday because you definitely do NOT want to wait until Friday or Saturday to take advantage of this deal. I want all of you to have the best possible selection of cosmetics at your fingertips (who likes getting to a sale late when everything's already been picked over?) so I'm giving you the heads-up now so that you can get to your Rite Aid on Thursday before work, after work or during your lunch break. Just get there on Thursday if you want to take advantage of this deal, ok? And of course I'd love it if you came back here and let us know what you got! :)
