The time is finally here, my lovelies! This is Wet n Wild Week here at Nouveau Cheap, and I'm bringing you all of the new 2011 Wet n Wild releases all week long! We've got polishes, mascaras, eyeshadow trios and more, so check back daily for the scoop.
I'm kicking things off with the products we've all been waiting for: the Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection 8-pan palettes! As an official Wet n Wild Beauty Ambassador, I am so incredibly honored to say that this is a Nouveau Cheap exclusive. You won't find these anywhere else (for now) and I cannot WAIT to show them to you!
But before we get to pictures and swatches, I want to remind you of a few things first in case you missed my original post:
- These new 8-pan palettes are only available in select retailers. For now, you can only purchase them at Walgreens and Walmart. So please, don't drive yourself crazy looking for these at CVS, Rite Aid, etc. because you will not find them there.
- These are NOT limited edition. They are part of the core collection, so we are all going to happily avoid the Night Elf Frenzy of 2010. There's plenty for everyone and they're sticking around!
So let's get started! And in case you're one of those people who scrolls straight to pictures and doesn't bother reading commentaries, I'll just tell you right up front that each palette contain multiple different finishes, the textures are of excellent quality (as good or better than previous Color Icon shadows), they are highly pigmented and each palette contains at least two dupes--quite possibly more.
Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection
(retail: $4.99 each at Walgreens and Walmart beginning mid-January)
(retail: $4.99 each at Walgreens and Walmart beginning mid-January)
NOTE: ALL OF THE FOLLOWING SHADOWS WERE SWATCHED WITHOUT PRIMER ON BARE SKIN
Let's start with Comfort Zone (I deliberately made the following collages quite large so that you can click on them and magnify them to really see the details of each swatch):
Lovelies, our dreams have become a reality:
the Club dupe that was in the Night Elf palette is in the Comfort Zone palette.
Oh, and the Vex dupe too! And since we're talkin' dupes here, that bronzey-brown is really reminding me of Romp but I'll get back to you on that.
If I didn't know any better, I'd think that Wet n Wild made this palette just for me. I mean, earthtones, bronzey-browns, greens AND the Club and Vex dupes? All in ONE palette? This is literally the palette I would create if I were in the Wet n Wild labs and they said, "Gianna, go hog wild. Make whatever you want."
What you need to know about Comfort Zone:
Shimmers: 5 (including Vex and possible Romp dupe)
Duochromes: 1 (Club dupe)
Mattes with sparkle: 2 (deep olive-black with gold sparkle and black with bronze sparkle)
I know there are more dupes in this palette but it's going to take me a little while to find them all, so please check back later for that info.
And in case you were wondering, here's how Comfort Zone and Night Elf compare:
Next up: Petal Pusher:
Petal Pusher was a hard one to capture in photos. These picture do NOT do this palette justice. The bottom left shade looks blue on camera, but in real life it's much more of a true violet purple and it's gorgeous (my swatches are pretty accurate). But by far, the standout shade in this palette, for me, is that gorgeous muted plum with the bronze shimmer. I'm pretty sure this is a dupe for either MAC Sable or Twinks but I'll need to investigate further.
Also the very light pink/white shade in the upper left corner of this palette is a satin matte white with a subtle violet-pink flash (I could NOT capture this in a photo). This reminds me so much of my beloved and long-ago discontinued Urban Decay Road Stripe!
Also, the shade underneath the "Road Stripe dupe" is a stunning lavender satin matte that flashes the tiniest hint of gold in certain lights. Oh my goodness is it beautiful in real life! I can't even think of a shade that compares to this off-hand.
What you need to know about Petal Pusher:
Shimmers: 4 (including possible Sable/Twinks dupe)
Satin Mattes: 2 (including possible Road Stripe dupe)
Mattes with sparkle: 2 (soft black with pink sparkle and intense black with silver, green and pink sparkle)
And finally we have Blue Had Me At Hello:
As soon as I swatched this palette I recognized that deep royal blue shimmer. I think it's a dupe of MAC Contrast or maybe Deep Truth, but like with my other hunches, I'll get back to you on that one! Also, that gorgeous bright teal has a golden sheen to it that you can't really detect in photos. Possibly a dupe for MAC Gulf Stream.
What you need to know about Blue Had Me At Hello:
Shimmers: 5 (including possible Contrast/Deep Truth and Gulf Stream dupes)
Mattes: 1 (black)
Mattes with sparkle: 2 (soft black with blue sparkle and intense black with silver sparkle)
Final Verdict: if you missed out on the LE Pixie Holiday palettes, don't even sweat it because I believe these are BETTER. All three of these new 8-pan palettes are must-haves in my book. The quality of the shadows is top notch, and I actually believe that the Club and Vex dupes in Comfort Zone have better pigmentation than the shades in the Night Elf palette (and the pigmentation in Night Elf is pretty amazing). Consider these new 8-pan palettes the Pixie Holiday palettes on steroids. Bigger, better, and with even more dupes! When you spot these at Walgreens or Walmart this month, grab 'em. I don't think you'll regret this purchase for a second because I can think of nothing else at the drugstore level that currently compares to these palettes.

Beautiful colors! I can't wait to see them in person!
ReplyDeletelooks amazing, cannot wait to find these at my stores!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the first peek! They all look gorgeous and I know know I'll be looking for them :)
ReplyDeleteI NEED Blue Had Me At Hello :D :D When are these going to start showing up?
ReplyDeleteSo exciting to get to see these! And yes, when are these going to start showing up in stores?
ReplyDeleteOmg a couple days Ago I started reading this blog and when I seen the new wet n wild pAlettes you said you were going to be showing I've been checking your site like 5 times an hour plus you are the best blogger and this is my fav week On your blog cuz wet n wild ! You just can't get better and I have to get these palettes GORGEUS!!!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job giving us the sneak peak! The colors look amazing and very pigmented. I cant wait to buy them!! Thanks to u and ofcourse wet n wild :)
ReplyDeleteI won't lie, the regular six-pan color selections aren't all that exciting to me, but THESE. O.O WOW.
ReplyDeleteWould you happen to know the details on pricing, by any chance?
wow wow WOW!!!
ReplyDelete3 words--- O M G!!!! <3
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited!!!! I missed out on the holiday palettes and love the six pan palettes I have. These have lots of fun colors to play with.
ReplyDeleteRight now I KNOW I'm going to get Comfort Zone :) I'm glad I skipped the holiday palettes now since I was never going to use the red in Night Elf anyway. I like some of the shades in the other two palettes so I might get them during a sale. I think you mentioned before how much they were going to retail.... Is it $8? I forgot :(
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic! I've become so impressed with Wet n Wild lately. I love the Color Icon shadows. I can't wait to try these!
ReplyDeleteWow this is really exciting! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNone of the palettes really call out to me unfortunately :( But we'll see what happens when I see them in person!
I'm really excited for comfort zone too! They all look amazing though. Thank you for this post!
ReplyDeleteGreat detailed descriptions and swatch photos...I almost feel like I've seen them live!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! Are these ALL original colors from Wet n Wild? The 1st 3 browns and the 1st 3 greens from the Comfort Zone palette look a lot like the colors from the WnW trios that came out last year in the Color Icon line.
ReplyDeleteThey are even the same size and shape.
OMGGG i woke up and was like "i need to check G's blog for 8-pans!!!!"
ReplyDeletefirst of all thank u SOOO much for your hard work with the posts and upcoming posts! <3
and OMG i'm so excited for these! comfort zone and petal pusher NEED to be in my hands and on my eyes ASAP lol
These are PRETTY!! I hope I'm able to find them. They're all soo pretty I don't think I can pick a fave.
ReplyDeleteOMG, I can't WAIT! The holiday palettes NEVER hit my area (wth?), and now that these are going to be a part of their perm products, I won't have to sweat finding them (eventually)!
ReplyDeleteG, when you have a moment, maybe you could ask the powers that be at WnW what exactly IS their release strategy (ie, why was it impossible to find the holiday palettes in particular areas, esp. when those areas are pretty metropolitan?)! That'd be so awesome if they could tell us such info! :-D
I really want the Comfort Zone and Petal Pusher palettes now. I think that the Club dupe is really beautiful and maybe I just applied it wrong, but when I used the one in the Night Elf palette I couldn't make it look right. It may be because I couldn't find my eyeshadow brushes, was in a hurry and just tried using the package applicator but I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep my eye out for these.
Comfort Zone looks very pretty!! Ack, and I was trying for a no-buy 2011!!!
ReplyDeletewoot!
ReplyDeleteThese palettes look AMAZING! I received a few Wet n Wild products for Christmas, and I love them! I never came across the holiday palettes, so I will definitely be on the lookout for these! Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteComfort zone looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI was at my Walgreen's on Saturday and I saw the new fast dry polishes and some new eyeliners and lip gels or glosses. I also saw some new Coloricon trios, but I did not see these 8-pan palettes. Thanks for all the info!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get my hands on these! Thanks for the great info (:
ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting! Question: if these are part of the core collection, how come it wasn't included (to the best of my memory) in WnW's email about the upcoming 2011 products? Everything else was accounted for, but why not these 8-pan palettes? This would obviously be their best selling 2011 product, so I'd think they would want to play up this product first and foremost.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get my hands on these!!! =]
the colors from "petal pushers" look very similar to the colors from the sugar plum le palette, which i own. do you know if the colors are different? thanks!
ReplyDeleteThese look promising. I got one of the new color icon 3 pan palettes, the one with the taupey looking color. The taupe in it pulls purple and is a very Bobbi Brown Shimmerwash type of color. I like it. I also got the gitter np, party of five, can't wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty in the pan, but why, why, why all the shimmers!? Couldn't they include at least a few mattes? That's what makes the core collection of 6 pans so great. I did cave and bought all the Holiday LE palettes, but the OTT shimmer in some of them, Golden Goddess especially make them almost unwearable in the daytime for me.
ReplyDeletei want comfort zone and petal pusher soooo bad! I was hoping that there would only be two palettes that I liked, and it worked out that way! (I can't wear blues very well and I already have enough blue that I can do without the blue palette for a while.) Now I can't wait for these to come out or to see what the trios look like!
ReplyDeletewow,.!!!!,...i'am making my first Blog site,.bcOz i'm inspired to make one, people like you inspire others to do Blogging to show their Passion for makeups and other things,.this Palette are worth to envy with,.Love this Eyeshadows,..i really love to have this three,.
ReplyDeleteHey ladies! I am so happy that you all seem as excited as I am about these new 8-pans. Yay!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your questions:
The retail price on these is $4.99
They will be available starting mid-January but I cannot give you an exact date. It depends on when your particular Walgreens or Walmart decides to put them out. It could be the 15th, it could be the 31st. Sorry I can't be more precise.
Carolanne: I'm guessing because these are not a widespread release (meaning, they won't be available at ALL retailers). And also, these 8-pans didn't release at the same time as the other products, which are already popping up on store shelves. These won't be available until around mid-month, whereas the rest of the new releases are already popping up on store shelves. That's just my theory. :)
Anne: Petal Pusher has two satin mattes in it (the first and second shades in the left-hand column), and the shimmer on those is really just more of a sheen (veeeeery subtle and only detectable in certain lights). They will definitely appeal to matte fans. Hope that helps! :)
ReplyDeleteO.M.G. I am going on the hunt for these!! These palettes are GORGEOUS!!! I want them ALL!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am IN LOVE with Blue Had Me at Hello. Thank you so much for reviewing these and swatching them. =)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Will there be more 8 pan palettes or are they just coming out with 3? Thank you!
Those shade selection is actually pretty cool...I have yet to try the six-pan palette but I guess I will try these first.
ReplyDeleteWould you hand me a cup of water? I just fainted!!!!
ReplyDeleteI looked at the photos first before reading your reviews. And when I saw Comfort Zone I think, Ohhhh, I bet she LOVED that one!!! :)
At this price, I will probably get 2 sets and have one as a giveaway. Sounds like it might be a good idea since not everyone gets them at their Walgreens. And, since I have a bazillion Walgreens here, I'll find 'em! heee heee heee >:)
Thanks for such a swell review!!!!
:::FAINTS:::
ReplyDeleteomg!!!! giiiiiirllllll, you got me soooo excited. I am about to go into cardiac arrest. (j/k)
I love how genuinely enthusiastic you are about everything. Its a wonderful way to live life!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited about these! Wet n Wild is so awesome and they are lucky to have you as their ambassador. The only thing I wish is that they named their eyeshadow shades so I could be sure and know how many shades in each of the palettes I didn't own yet. But that is just a minor gripe. Did I mention I was excited about these?
G!!!! Omg!!! Thank you so much for all the details on these new palettes. I am so surprised these are $4.99!!! Good job WetnWild!
ReplyDeleteThe top right shade in Comfort Zone reminds me of Urban Decay's Maui Wowie (hopefully a dupe!), and the third left shade reminds me of MAC's Greensmoke. Oh boy, I'm so excited!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely need to get my hands on Comfort Zone!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!! My mouth is watering! I have included this link on my blog and facebook. Now, is there same colors from the Wnw original coloricon or are these colors all new?
ReplyDeletexoxo
Wing
These are all SO pretty! I'm off to Wags before work tomorrow to get my flu shot - fingers crossed that maybe they have these, and the new nail polishes, already!
ReplyDeletethese look amazing! to be honest, i always have been unsure about wet n' wild makeup, because it reminds me of all the horrible wet n' wild nail pollish's i owned when i was little. but i might just pick these up!
ReplyDeletedo you know if or when they will be available in canadian walmarts?
Oh man! I haven't bought WnW in forever, but this might just convince me to visit the end cap. Thanks, Ms. Ambassador! Congrats on all of your success! You deserve it.
ReplyDeleteI saw a new cap end today at Wags. It had some of the new eyeliners, trios, nail polishes... So exciting! I wanted to grab something, but as they're part of the core collection, I figure they'll be on sale eventually. xD
ReplyDeleteExciting! I really want that TF Whore/Club dupe!
EVERYTHING on clearance in my area is already sold out. *Sigh*
Wow ... just wow! These shadows are gorgeous and I'm surprised they're only $4.99. It'll be better when I catch them on sale lol. Can't wait to find these at my local Walgreens :D
ReplyDeleteDo you know if these would be available in Duane Reade stores in NY? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteok..call me crazy but i am not impressed with these 8-pan palettes. the only reason i loved the color icon palettes was because of the mattes. i know that some of the mattes came off kinda powdery, but they were still pigmented. these new palettes( these are pretty and pigmented) arent what i expected. everyday is not a shimmery day, especially if you go to school or have a "professonal" job. i may sound like an old lady, but i guess i expected something more dynamic... these are still fantastic for 5 bucks but wet and wild will not be getting my money this go around.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all the kind words, and for all the input, gals! I love hearing about other dupes you're spotting, and which palettes you're the most interested in buying! :D
ReplyDeleteAs for your questions about whether some of these shades are the same as other WnW palettes, I honestly do not know, but I will try to find out and report back. It sounds like some of you see some shades that you think look like existing WnW shadows, so I'd like to confirm that if I can! When I get more info, I'll share that with you.
kali: As of now, there are only three palettes.
Dee: That's so funny because I owned a lot of the original WnW polishes from the 80s (I still have them too!) and I LOVED them. WnW was the first blue polish I ever saw at the drugstore. lol!
Sara S.: Like I mentioned at the top of this post, they're only going to be sold at Walgreens and Walmart for now. Sorry if you missed that (I tried to call it out to avoid any confusion). :)
infojunkie: I appreciate the honest feedback! There are definitely more shimmers in these palettes than anything else, but Petal Pusher does have two satin mattes that might work for you (I think they're both gorgeous).
Seriously $4.99? O.o That's so awesome it hurts. I definitely want the earthy toned one. And even though I never wear blue eyeshadows, I really want to try that blue palette too.
ReplyDeleteTonight I went to Walgreens and they had a display with the new eyeshadow trios, and there were several that were really pretty! And it had the new nail polishes. Even though there wasn't a sale I couldn't stop myself from getting Party of Five Glitters and Teal of Fortune. There were several others I reeeeally want too.
Please tell me you were sent the nail polishes and are going to do swatches? >.<
All you women need to quit drooling all over your monitor so you could read what G wrote! Right between the first two pictures it says, "Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection
ReplyDelete(retail: $4.99 each at Walgreens and Walmart beginning mid-January)"!
And G, about this, "If I didn't know any better, I'd think that Wet n Wild made this palette just for me. I mean, earthtones, bronzey-browns, greens AND the Club and Vex dupes? All in ONE palette? This is literally the palette I would create if I were in the Wet n Wild labs and they said, "Gianna, go hog wild. Make whatever you want.""
LIAR! You know you needed a 10 pan with a couple of taupes in there for your perfect palette. Lucky for us WnW didn't give it to you, I'm sure that much awesome would have killed you!
WnW surely picked the best person for their ambassador. I know you've already sold me on all three of these palettes, and all the polishes too. My husband is getting a bit annoyed with all my makeup buying, but oh well!
I will be looking for these in a few weeks. I stopped in Wags on my way home from work and on a stray endcap (separate from the regular makeup aisle), noticed the trios, polishes, eyeliners and glassy glosses/lip gels (?) on display. Since WnW isn't on sale this week, I only bought 3 of the trios and hid the two nail colors I want most (the true blue and a yellow) to pick up later this week. Thanks for the swatches, G!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya. Not only are you a great blogger but you are sympathetic to your readers who missed the Holiday Palettes. These look great, but I don't see the luscious red (Night Elf), beautiful purples (Sugar Plum Fairy), or warm (Golden Goddess) golds in these palettes like I saw in the Holiday Palettes. I am writing this with hopes WnW will keep 'em coming and reproduce those palettes.
ReplyDelete*drools* Must. Have. These. I'm in love with WnW's palettes lately! I managed to score all four of the LE Holiday palettes, and was incredibly impressed. If these new palettes are better... yeah. They'll be joining my makeup family. ;)
ReplyDeleteAAHHHHHH I hope we get these in Canada!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Really? I've never seen these. Now I have and now I MUST have! Especially Blue Had Me at Hello. Another great blog.
ReplyDeleteI *need* all 3! :D ♥ x
ReplyDeleteZOMG.. I need these. I missed out on the LEs so these will be mine. I don't think they ever even made it to my area!
ReplyDeleteI wish there were more mattes in these 8 pans, like with the 6 pans, for isntance Lust has 3 mattes and 3 shimmers. You'd think that with 8 colors they could throw a few more mattes in there. I say this because I just tried the Lust palette yesterday. I really love the mattes from Wet n Wild, and I have never liked matte shadows before. So I think WnW does a really great job with mattes, and overall, these colors are just way awesome and pretty!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors! Thanks for all the pictures and swatches. Now, WnW please come out with pallets of all matte shades! As an older woman I don't particularly like all the shimmers because the older eye just isn't complimented by them. I will try these pallets but I sure would appreciate more matte shades.
ReplyDeleteI found the 8 pans today at Walgreens! I picked up the neutral palette and wore the "club" dupe which I LOVE!! I can quit stalking Walgreens for a while now, at least for a while.
ReplyDeleteThanx for keeping us updated!
I am very behind the masses, and just got the Vanity palette a few weeks ago ( I love it!) and will for sure be getting Comfort Zone and Petal Pusher. Hopefully they don't take forever getting to Canada!
ReplyDeleteSeriously..I have to have all 3! I cannot find them anywhere. Well I did find the neutral one, Confort Zone and someone must have dropped it, because it was nothing but dust. but can u believe stll so pretty. Passed and on ebay looking at them, bidding right now!
ReplyDeleteMoira, these palettes aren't limited edition. Your Walgreens/Walmart will eventually restock. If you have some patience you won't have to pay crazy ebay prices!
ReplyDeleteI found these palettes today at my local Walgreens...in the Des Moines, IA area.....just in case anyone was wondering~ :-)
ReplyDeleteHas anyone found these in the Raleigh/Durham/Cary/Chapel Hill area in NC? I've had no luck despite my constant stopping to check. The people in Walgreens are starting to look at me funny when I come in.
ReplyDeleteIf you only want to buy one palette, which of the three would you purchase?
ReplyDeleteI just randomly walked by the (run over) mill of the WnW section of my Walgreens, and low and behold THE 8-PAN sets sitting there and untouched. I bought Petal Pusher(purple) and Comfort Zone(Neutrals) the blue palette didnt appeal to me. GET COMFORT ZONE!! If you had to choose just one.
ReplyDeleteJulie: I agree with Jadore Drugstore. Without a doubt, get Comfort Zone if you can only have one. :)
ReplyDeleteYou say that there is a dupe for Club in the Comfort zone palette but I must say those two colors are really nothing alike. The color you are talking about is a closer dupe for MAC's Blue Brown pigment.
ReplyDelete*happy dance* I found these at Walgreens (regular wall display) today after work. Great way to end a cruddy week between lousy weather and that flu going around that I've had for what seems like forever. I concur that if you only get one, Comfort Zone is The One to Get and at 4.99, an absolute steal. I don't know who WnW hired recently to develop their new e/s, but that person deserves a raise. Definitely worth the wait because these are even better in person. I may not get the other two b/c I don't wear blues or purples as much, but Blue was gorgeous as well and I can see why they sell out so fast! Add these to my ever-growing list of amazing things at drugstores now - thank you G, once again you are spot-on!
ReplyDeleteHey love<3
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know I finally saw these at my local Walgreens! They were with all the color icon stuff and didn't have a special display. I only purchased 2, but I might go back and buy the other. The colors are beautiful!
I just wanted to let people know about what happened with me and these palettes... I was so excited to get Comfort Zone and Petal Pusher, and so I did. Unfortunately, the next morning I started doing my eye makeup with PP and within five minutes of putting the shadows on, I started to get hives around my eyes and eve the whites of my eyes turned bright red. It was so uncomfortable! I thought that maybe it was somethi g in the PP Palette, like a dye, but the next day I tried using the CZ Palette and the same thing happened. It turns out I am horribly allergic to something they put in ALL of the WnW shadows ... I am SO SAD because they are lovely colors.... I just can't wear any of them *sigh*
ReplyDelete
