Revlon Colorstay 2-in-1 Compact Makeup and Concealer

(This has nothing to do with this post really, but when I quickly look at this display, I keep thinking that's Emilynoel83. Doesn't that look like her a little bit??)

Many thanks to reader Samantha Ann (Samantha Ann on YouTube) for this one! Samantha Ann spotted this new display at her local Harmon this week, which means it should also be popping up at Bed Bath & Beyond stores with an extended beauty department, as well as Christmas Tree Shops (also a subsidiary of Bed Bath and Beyond, along with Harmon). You may have to wait a few weeks for this display to pop up at all the usual drugstores, but I'm sure it's coming.

So let's take a closer look:

There are twelve shades in this range. I cropped/enlarged Samantha Ann's pic for an even closer look:

As you can see, the shades run from 110 to 410. Here's a closer look at the display info:

You can see that this is a triple chamber compact with the concealer up top, the foundation in the middle, and a black sponge applicator on the bottom.

I was excited at first to think that the foundation itself may be a powder foundation (my favorite), but this is actually more of a cream-to-powder foundation that sets to a satin/demi-matte finish. In fact, my pal Jen of Budget Beauty Blog already reviewed this product HERE (she's quick!) and it seems like it's not going to work for those with dry patches (it clings). But for oily peeps like me, it might be worth a shot? Jen did mention that this product provides full coverage (as most Colorstay face products), which has me excited since I love full-coverage foundations.

Since Harmon/Bed Bath & Beyond have very competitive prices when it comes to drugstore makeup, I'm guessing that this $12.97 price tag will be closer to $15 or so when this hits the regular drugstores. But since you're reading this blog, you know that Revlon often goes on sale at the drugstores and you can wait for a 40% off sale to get it at a better price. I don't know if I'll be able to wait that long, but I'm just throwing that out there.

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation with new pump applicator

Speaking of Colorstay foundations, I want to thank several of you for letting me know that the new pump applicator for the liquid Colorstay foundations that I blogged about several months ago is finally starting to pop up at Target. Reader Veronica spotted the pump applicator bottles at her Target recently and kindly shared the pic above (thank you, Veronica!).

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think some of you mentioned that Revlon tweaked the Colorstay Liquid Foundation formula when they added the pump. Am I dreaming that, or does the formula seem different to you now (if you have this new pump bottle)?

Thanks again, Samantha Ann, for the great sighting and pic!

  1. I haven't spotted the pump version yet, but I do remember an international (Aussie?) blogger who did a review saying something about the formula being different in the pump bottle. I'm curious about this new compact, but I'm thinking the lightest shade 110 Ivory will be a little too dark for me based on this photo. I normally am shade 110 in the liquid ColorStay, but I remember the same shade being darker in the Whipped version and looking funny on me. I'm hoping something in the ColorStay line will work for me, I switched over to the Kat Von D foundations for a few months and I must say while I love the coverage, my skin has been a lot more oily than it has been in my life, and I'm switching back to ColorStay to see if that was the problem.

    1. Thanks! I'm wondering about those lighter shades too. I THINK that second-to-lightest shade might work for me (I'm an NC20) but I can't imagine that lightest shade working for those with very fair skin. At least in these pics, it looks pretty dark. :(

    2. I use 180 Sand Beige, and it looked so much darker than the liquid. But when applied the color is lighter than it appears.

    1. Me too, but I'm not hopeful I'll find some that haven't already been opened/tested. I have been looking like crazy and every single tube in my area has been opened already. I just don't understand why Revlon wouldn't put actual safety seals on these--that little sticker just isn't doing the trick. :(

  5. If only ANY of their foundations were light enough for me....

    1. Sigh...I know, Kitsune. It's sad, isn't it? They do a great job in that middle range, but the different ends of the spectrum sometimes suffer. So sorry! :(

  6. The formula is different with the pump (I've been using the pump european version for almost two years) last year family brought me a pumpless version from the US. The consistency is different. However the US version is dry skin which I use in winter and the pump version is oil free which I use in summer so I can't compare wear time

  7. Wow I do remember u talking about this. Anything that might work for oily skin excited me. I feel like there is a lot foundations come out for more normal to dry skin especially prestige brands. But I'm all about the Drugstore. Because that's what I can afford when I can. And still it's hard to find something for my always never had a dry patch except with a cold on the end if my nose. Lol. So happy about finding something that could work for my aging late 40s ski. That's so oily at my age. Some say it's a blessing for wrinkles and I hope there is an advantage to still having breakouts on my chin mostly, for this oily skin. That doesn't take long to show thru. Will be watching and waiting for u u to get it and review it. Been thinking about trying out the Covergirl 3-1 foundation have heard some ppl with oily skin like it? What do u think if u have tried it??

    2. Joyce, to answer your question, the CoverGirl 3-in-1 is my holy grail foundation, and I have very oily skin. You can read my full review by going to the main menu bar of this blog, and clicking "Essential Links." From there, just scroll down to the "My Holy Grail Products" link and you'll see it, along with all of my other holy grail products. Hope that helps!

  8. The formula for colorstay was changed about 3 or 4 years ago for the worst. The older version was great. The newer version's first ingredient is clopentasiloxane which is a silicone that made the foundation slide all over my face and I was at a funeral and could not wash it off. It was so uncomfortable. I purchased as many of the old version that I could find and still have a few bottles left. The old version with the soft flex is the best. It stays in place and doesn't bother my eyes like the new version. What I find strange is the Ulta website shows the old version for sale.

    1. Thank you, L Cook! I THOUGHT I rememeberd people saying that (It's been a while since I used Colorstay liquid). Thank you so much for the great info/details about the change. Very helpful.

  9. Hi!

I am an Ivory, former user of the old PhotoReady Ivory. I had to switch to Colorstay when they updated the formula and made Ivory five shades darker. I bought and tried the new compact in Ivory, but I'm returning it tomorrow. It was greasy, slimy, and about six shades darker. I would have to look like George Hamilton to wear this, and I haven't had sun exposure in 20 years, so I'm like Anne Hathaway pale. This won't work for me.

  10. So they finally made a pump for the American market...i commented a while ago too that the Colorstay formula has changed, it's no longer as good as it used to be. The Softflex SPF 6 version was the bomb, wore like iron throughout the day. However i have moved on...i now use MAC foundations. I am finding drugstore foundations are too pink or grey or orange. I like how yellow MAC foundations are. My affair with drugstore foundations are over.

  11. As mentioned, in the other comments I hope the pump reformulation is a better take on the older reformulation. The older reformulation of colorstay sucks. Nowadays, I'm a fan of the whipped though the oil control isn't *as* great as the original. The older reformulation seems a lot thinner in coverage and while it does last it makes me look shiner than cubic zirconia in sunlight. While the older one had SPF, this has that darn orchid petal extract, like no thanks. The reformulated version exaggerates every facial movement and could probably etch wrinkles on smooth baby's skin. I'm the type of girl that can wear rimmel's stay matte mousse and make it look natural so the reformulation is basically liquid cake to me. Hopefully, the pump version will be an improvement and a look back to it's former glory. Plus, the pump!

  12. G., was this the foundation that you reviewed and said it was a glitter bomb? I think this looks really neat but I think that my skin is way too dry for this foundation. PS I read Jen's blog sometimes too, but you are my holy grail!!!! :)

  13. This new version with the pump has SPF so it has to be a different formula. The pumps are staggering in, so as soon as my shade is available I'll let you know how it compares!

  14. Not sure the formula will be different in the pump bottle. The 24h formula is the same in US, Asia and Europe, but it already had SPF in other countries than US (SPF 15 for the oily skin formula and SPF 20 for the dry skin formula). I think Revlon did not write any sun protection factor on the bottles because FDA required tests weren't done when they first launched the 24h formula 2 years ago... now that they did thoses tests they can promote the foundations sun protection factor.
