There are twelve shades in this collection and as you can see in the pic above, the colors are broken up into three different shade ranges (as if any of us ever pay attention to those!). Anyway, it appears that the "Smart Shade" reference in the title is just referring to the different shade ranges--I don't believe these are self-adjusting lip colors (I could be wrong, but I don't think these are self-adjusting).

As I mentioned in my sneak-peek post, Revlon owns Almay, so it's no surprise that these look a lot like the Revlon Lip Butters. Kristen purchased one of these shades and she said that they don't feel quite as creamy/buttery as the Revlon Lip Butters, and that they have a more "balmy" feel to them. She also said that the color she purchased was on the sheer side.
Some of you have mentioned in recent comments here on the blog that Revlon might be discontinuing their Lip Butters (NOTE: I do not have any official confirmation of this--all I know right now is that SOME shades in the Revlon Lip Butter line are being discontinued). But as some of you pointed out, this could be a case where Revlon's getting rid of the Lip Butters (in favor of the new HD Lipsticks) but moving this type of product over to their sister brand, Almay. I guess we'll have to wait and see how that pans out!
In the meantime, the Almay Butter Kiss Lip Colors have officially landed and I'm very excited to try some. For a closer look at the actual colors, check out my sneak-peek post HERE. By the way, these are permanent (not limited edition) and I would imagine that they'll start to show up at all the usual retailers within the next few weeks.
Thanks again, Kristen, for the great pics and info. I really appreciate it!
Hey, thank you to Kristen for that tip about them being sheer...now I know to go for the darker shades. Btw- I picked up one of those Revlon HD's (Primrose) and I LOVE it!! I blot it and wear it as a stain, and it wears and fades so gracefully.
ReplyDeleteI think the same as some of the others. It would seem that Revlon is quietly discontinuing some shades (or maybe eventually all of them) and transitioning this type of product to Almay. It seems Almay is marketed as a "softer, more natural and subtle" makeup line so these are a good fit, especially if they are sheer.
ReplyDeleteI know it's not definite, but I can't believe revlon would axe the lip butters. They are part of what got me into makeup and have been very well loved. Sometimes it's hard to understand the beauty world, especially at the drug store level
ReplyDeleteGlad to know that they are sheer. I may now pass them up. My lips are just too pigmented and sheer color just doesn't show up.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Almay is Revlon's sister brand. OMG that is such a relief if they are getting rid of their lip butters. Because I only wear their lip butters. I love them! (I've tried so many other lipsticks and balms and they dry out my lips. These have such great color payoff and they don't dry out my lips one eota!!). I will be devastated if they discontinue them!! Gah!! But... very good to know that Almay may have the same ones! That is such good news for me yay!!
ReplyDeleteJust want to echo everyone else in saying I hope they're just changing out the colors in the Lip Butter line and not actually getting rid of it. But if they do, I hope these are as moisturizing to my lips...
