Essie Ruby Slippers vs. Essie Leading Lady

If you caught my post yesterday about the Essie Winter 2012 Collection sighting at Target, then you know that there's a red glitter polish in this collection called Leading Lady (in fact, I know some of you already own this pretty new red).

Reader Julie, who shared the pics of the display at Target with us, was also nice enough to do a comparison of Essie Leading Lady and Essie Ruby Slippers. Check it out:

Lots of additional pics, after the jump...

Three coats of each polish (no base color):

Julie writes:

They are not dupes, but they are very, very close. Leading Lady seems to be more of a jewel-toned red, hence why it looks a bit pinker than Ruby Slippers. The formula is identical, with Leading Lady being just a hair more opaque. Top coat is necessary to smooth out the texture, but neither is overly gritty.
Thanks so much for the great, detailed comparison, Julie! It sounds like you may not need Leading Lady if you already own Ruby Slippers, unless of course you love jewel-toned/cooler shades of red.

Do you own Ruby Slippers? If so, do you also plan to pick up Leading Lady, or do you think they're too close to justify a purchase?

  2. I don't own Ruby Slippers. Are those two bottles the same size?

  3. I really love them both. My mom (Sylvia) has Ruby Slippers and even though the two are very close Leading Lady reminds me of a glass of wine. It's a bit more ritch looking while Ruby Slippers is more bright.

  4. From the pictures, Leading Lady appears very similar to Deborah Lippmann's Razzle Dazzle.

  5. I love me some red glittery goodness (mostly for pedi's)! and forgive me if it was mentioned and I missed it but are either of these LE? my old bottle if my current fav red glitter is way old.... Revlon Firecracker. (some of the new Fergie ones are calling me and I forget if they're LE, so I have to check your post(s) on those again) :)

    1. Steffy, which do you think is closer to Firecracker (my fave too!!!)? I tossed my last bottle. I am leaning towards purchasing Ruby Slippers.

  6. I don't won Essie Ruby Slippers and I am looking forward to picking up Leading Lady when it finally hits my area - I went looking yesterday for Essie Winter 2012 collection and came up negative - so it's not out in my area yet...tho that only means 2 stores in 60 mil radius and no help to ask if it' here and not been put put yet. I like the more redish/leading a touch of raspberry in Leasing Lady over RS.
