I'm sorry for not posting about these when they were first released back at the beginning of the year, but better late than never, right? I received these colors a while back for review, and I was absolutely obsessed with them when I first got them. But since I'm a makeup junkie, I eventually switched my attention to other lip colors and these got a little lost in the shuffle. But I busted these out again a few weeks ago and guess what? I'm totally obsessed again! These colors just scream "Summertime!"
Wet n Wild added these six shades to their core line for 2012. You can find these just about everywhere that Wet n Wild is sold and they retail for around $2.99 each. I'm not actually reviewing these lipsticks today because I've already reviewed this formula once back in January of 2010 (Wine Room) and again in May of 2010 (Just Peachy) and my feelings haven't changed a bit since those reviews . So today I'm going to show you swatches and give you my thoughts about the actual colors.
The good thing about getting to these so late is that there are now lots of great dupe comparison posts on the internet that I can share with you. Who doesn't love a good drugstore dupe, right?
Wet n Wild Megalast Lipsticks
(retail: $2.99 each, 0.11 oz)
If you're never tried a Megalast lipstick before, you should know that they have a drier, thicker formula and a semi-matte finish. None of these shades have any shimmer or sheen to them. Megalast lipsticks are true to their name in terms of staying power--they are built to last...and last. But the real selling point with these lipsticks is their insane color payoff. All six of these shades will practically cancel out the natural pigment of your lips, and there's no need to build for more intensity. A few swipes and they'll be perfectly opaque on just about every skintone, and WOW are they intense (some shades border on neon):
- Cherry Picking is a deep pink-toned red. It's very similar to Revlon's classic shade Cherries in the Snow (you can see Shannybanny's side-by-side swatches of Cherry Picking and Cherries in the Snow here).
- Don't Blink Pink didn't photograph accurately for my camera, so take a look at Miss Natty's swatches here for how this shade looks in real life--it's a bright, almost-neon pinkish-berry and quite the traffic-stopper!
- Purty Persimmon is a vibrant midtone reddish-orange that just so happens to be an excellent dupe for MAC Sail La Vie.
- 24 Carrot Gold is the perfect lip color to get if you're looking for an orangey-coral this summer. As we all know, oranges and corals are all the rage right now, and this one's a beauty. It's softer and not quite as vibrant as Purty Persimmon--check it out on Stay Beautiful here.
- Pinkerbell is pretty much legendary at this point for being a near-perfect dupe of MAC Nicki. Don't believe me? Check out Vampy Varnish's comparison post here.
- And speaking of near-perfect dupes, check out Dime on a Dime's comparison of Dollhouse Pink to MAC Pink Nouveau here. Pretty darned close, I'd say!
To get a better idea of how vibrant and neon-like some of these shades can be, check out Mocha Mish Mash's post here. They look so pretty on her!
If you haven't tried any of the Megalast 2012 releases yet, I think there's something here for everyone when it comes to bold, vivid summertime-friendly hues. If you find the colors too matte-looking for your tastes, top them with a sheer, shimmery gloss for added dimension. And if you find this formula a bit too drying, apply a coat of lip balm beforehand and you should be good to go!
Do you own any Megalast lipsticks? What are some of your favorites?

I have Dollhouse Pink and it's been my go-to color ever since I got it!
ReplyDeleteFunny that it's a dupe for Pink Nouveau. When I put it on, it reminded me to MAC Pink Friday but I don't own it to compare. Although Nicki Minaj has said she always used to wear Pink Nouveau, so maybe that's why this shade looked so Nicki-ish to me!
Ooh, i didnt know there were new colors out-I definitely need the two orange shades. Btw, i clicked the link for the blog you called 'Lazy Beautiful', but on her site its actually called 'Stay Beautiful'. Is there another blog called Lazy Beautiful, or was that just an in-joke or something? Just curious :)
ReplyDeleteWhoops! There IS a blogger named Lazy Beautiful and I guess my fingers just automatically typed her name instead! Sorry about that, and thanks SO much for calling it to my attention! :)
DeleteI think Pinkerbell is the same shade as Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Antwerp
ReplyDeleteI love Cherry Picking - it's such a gorgeous pink, and it lasts SO well.
ReplyDeleteAhhh I'm so glad I Cherry Picking is a dupe for Cherries in the Snow! I thiink Temptalia reviewed Cherries in the Snow a while ago (of course, now I can't find the review...) and I thought it was a gorgeous color. I'm a red lipstick fiend, but I just haven't gotten around to buying it. But I do have cherry picking! So...awesome! I also love Smokin' Hot Pink and Purty Persimmon. I have Pinkerbell too, but I find it a little hard to work with (esp if my lips aren't perfectly smooth), but it's gorgeous. I think it's quite fun to wear though!
ReplyDeletethey're all gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI bought every single shade and LOVE them! :D I have so many shades from the Megalast line and when I saw these new shades I was like, MUST HAVE! :D Every single one of these is just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThey are long wearing though so I definitely use a lip scrub (Skinny Girl Lip Scrub) followed by a clear balm with SPF (elf is my favorite to use with these) before applying these. I also use this routine as needed on the go because I find that my lips can sometimes get those dried up bits from long wear lipsticks as they wear off, yuck! The lip scrub/balm totally takes care of it though and the little bit of extra effort is definitely worth it when it comes to these beautiful lipsticks! :)
I am so excited for these! They are all my kind of colors!
ReplyDeleteI think I might want the Carrot Gold, hmmm.
ReplyDeleteI love Dollhouse Pink, Pinkerbell and Don't Blink Pink.
ReplyDeleteWnW is 40% off next week at Rite Aid plus you get a $3 UP reward when you spend $8. Just might have to stock up on these!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, really?? I haven't checked the ads for next week yet! That is AWESOME to know, and thanks so much for sharing, hun!! :)
DeleteThese colors look amazing, can't wait till my walgreens gets them in!
ReplyDeleteWow, these look awesome! Maybe it's time for me to get over my fear of bold lip colors.
ReplyDeleteI own more of the neutral colors I still haven't seen any of these at my drug stores! :(
ReplyDeleteI went to rite aid today to look for these colors and they only had the wine room but i must say, they had all of wet and wild 40% off and $3 dollas points (iss that what they r called?) With every $8 purchased
ReplyDeleteLovely swatches! And thank you for the link :)
ReplyDeleteI picked up "it's a girl!" a couple of weeks ago, and I absolutely love it. It's the perfect summery pink for my skintone. This is my first experience with the lipsticks and I am very pleased.
ReplyDeleteAfter Marina & the Diamonds posted a tweet about loving dollhouse pink, I had to grab it for her concert. Grabbed a nude from the line too since I had some cvs extrabucks that needed spending...love both of them! I had been searching for both shades for a long time. If only I wasn't on a lipstick no-buy, I would probably pick up the whole line.
ReplyDeleteOh my GOSH I love Don't Blink Pink! I normally don't go for pinks, but I've been wanting to try something new for summer and this looks perfect! I love your reviews, and I love it even more when link to other bloggers so that we can get a better idea of the colors--it's really helpful and I appreciate the time it must take to round up all those extra links...so thanks! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the mention!! :)
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing this post, I now know that I need Pinkerbell!
I really love the formula of the Mega Last lipsticks!
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to grab these lippies and I ended up getting 4 from the Rite Aid sale but I ended up looking dead in all of them. :(
ReplyDeleteThe dollhouse pink is quite a decent lipstick shades just to hide some lip lines and prevent lipstick bleeding. I prefer Maybelline lipstick but I think it's not bad to try another brand just for comparison. I'll recommend this nouveau to my friends.
ReplyDeletei love these lipsticks. i have them all except Pinkerbell. i just got red velvet today. these are a steal
