Review: New Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo

Longtime readers of this blog know that I fancy myself as a bit of a dry shampoo connoisseur. I've reviewed many drugstore dry shampoos over the years from brands such as TRESemme, Batiste, got2b, Psssst and Salon Grafix (just do a search if you'd like to see them).

Since I have oily hair, oily skin and side-swept bangs, dry shampoos really come in handy for me and I use them probably once or twice a week. Since my bangs rest on my forehead and my skin is oily, that means I can never go more than 24 hours before my bangs start to look stringy and greasy.

Last year at around this time, I reviewed the then-new Suave Dry Shampoo and today I'd like to show you the newest dry shampoo from Sauve, Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo, which was given to me recently for review.

Fore more info on the new Suave Keratin Infusion collection, click here to read the press release.

  Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo

From Suave:

Absorbs oil and refreshes hair between washes.

  • Formula infused with Keralock™ Technology keeps hair smooth and manageable

  • Salon proven to refresh hair as well as Bumble & bumble®2

  • $2.87-$3.49

  • (5 oz.)

This dry shampoo comes in a standard aerosol can with a spray nozzle:

Here are some before-and-afters:

The above pic was taken about 48 hours after washing my hair. I pulled back the top layer of my bangs to reveal the greasy, stringy hair underneath (this is the hair that rests on my forehead).

The above photo was taken after immediately after applying Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo as directed. I held the can 8-10 inches away from my hair and sprayed directly onto my oily roots. I did NOT work the product in with my fingers or a comb before I took the above photo.

NOTE: It may appear that this product leaves a slight white cast behind, but it actually does NOT. This product makes the hair look matte (before you work it in) but there is NO white cast and I will prove that to you a little later in this post.

The above photo was taken after working the dry shampoo in with my fingers, and then gently combing my bangs into place.

And finally, the above photo was taken after combing all of my bangs into place.

I told you that I would prove to you that this product does not leave a white cast behind, so now I'd like to show you what happens when I spray this product onto a dark brown t-shirt:

It's difficult to tell but if you look closely, you'll notice that some of the sheen on the shirt in the first photo is gone. In other words, this product gives my t-shirt a slight matte finish. But honestly, when I look at my shirt after applying this product, it looks NO different to my naked eye than before I applied the product. There's no white residue at all. (I've even tried this on a black t-shirt and the results were the same as above.)

I am very pleased with the performance of this product, for a variety of reasons. First, I like that it doesn't leave a white cast behind, which can be problematic if you have darker hair. I also like that, after I work the product in with my fingers and comb my hair into place, the shine is restored to my hair and it doesn't leave a matte finish behind. I find the fragrance of this product to be fresh, clean and pleasant (I don't like it as much as the grapefruit scent of the original Suave Dry Shampoo, but if you don't care for the scent of grapefruit, you'll be happy to know that this product smells fresh and clean with no heavy fruity or floral notes). To my nose, it smells more like a hairspray, but sort of a higher-end hairspray, if that makes sense.

My only complaint about this product is that, on the days when my hair is very oily, it doesn't absorb every last bit of oil on the first try. The good thing is that I can spray more of this product into my hair if needed, and it doesn't become cakey or overly-powdery. Just be sure to work it in with your fingers and then comb or brush your hair afterward and you should be good to go.

FINAL VERDICT: Compared to the original Suave Dry Shampoo, I think the new Keratin Infusion version has about the same level of oil absorbancy, but it leaves my hair a tiny bit more shiny than the original. In terms of added volume, I find it to be equal to the original. My hair has a little bit more "oomph" to it after I use this product, and it gives it some nice added texture without any heaviness. If you like the original Suave Dry Shampoo, I'm willing to bet you'll enjoy this version as well, and if you didn't like the grapefruit scent of the original, you'll probably find this a welcomed alternative. But just like the original, you might require a second application if your hair is extremely oily, so just be prepared for that. All in all, I think this is a nice, affordable option in the world of drugstore dry shampoos and I've enjoyed using it these past few weeks. Considering that the retail price of this product is around $3.50, I will definitely make a purchase when I run out--the value makes it hard for me to pass up considering how often I use dry shampoos.

Have you spotted the new Suave Keratin Infusion collection in your area yet? Do you think you'll give this dry shampoo a try?

  3. Haven't found this yet, but picked up a Suave Dry Conditioner this weekend that I have not seen before. I can't find a spec of information on it anywhere. It looks exactly like the original Suave Dry Shampoo (yellow and silver spray bottle) but it's about a third of the size. Anyone else seen it? Tried it?

  4. Your hair looks great with the new dry shampoo! I have the original Suave one, I love the grapefruit fragrance. I did buy the Suave Keratin shampoo and conditioner at Wegman's (a NY area supermarket chain) last week...but I haven't used it yet. Once I clear some of the bottles out of my shower I will!

  5. No idea why it keeps me anonymous but I got the dry conditioner at Wegmans, too!

  6. HI! I'm new to the blog and I wasn't sure where to post this, so I will post it here since it is hair related.

I was at my local Walgreens browsing when I came across some new products from Tresemme. I believe the products were called 'Nourishing Rituals.' There was a hair mask, cream cinditiner and one other product that I cannot recall exactly what it is. Also, I saw the shine serum from the 'Silky & Smooth' collection in a new packaging and it stated that it contained Argan oil.

I hope I'm posting in the right place and that this helps. I can get pictures if needed, since the Walgreens is right by my school.

Love the blog G, very informative and entertaining. Thumbs up. =]

  7. I am always wanting to try to use dry shampoos, but every time I buy a can I get 2-3 uses out of it and then the can is empty. Has anyone else had anything like this happen?? Any tips?

    1. I've not had this experience, but I've heard a lot of people complain about dry shampoo nozzles getting clogged after a couple of uses... My advice would be to double-check to make sure that's not what's happening to you! If the nozzle isn't the problem and the can really is empty, I don't know what to tell you, hopefully someone else has some better insight :(

  8. I just recently bought the TRESemme dry shampoo for oily straight/normal hair. I'm not the biggest fan. But I think I'll try this next.

  9. At walgreens when I was having the neauty advisor look through her stuff to find this dry shampoo(i love her she is awesome) I noticed the Suave dry conditioner. I also got a new got2b hair powder that is supoosed to help accentuate waves in your hair. thei was also some other new suave products or maybe it was just new packaging. Also some other new got2 b products were in the bin. Their was a serum with argain and grapeseed oil I believe. But I plan on going back next weekend to see what all was finally put out on the shelves. I also believe i saw some new Garnier fructis products for the xxl volume line.

  10. I bought this about a week and a half ago and used it 2-3 times. I have black hair and it really doesn't leave white cast after u rub and come it in. Although I tried to use it today and it was already empty! I'm hoping it was just a faulty can and nozzle cause I really like this product.

    1. Only got to use it once before the spray crapped out on me, so I think it's not a faulty can problem but a faulty product problem...sadly.

  11. I have a habit of trying every dry shampoo I can get, but I haven't seen this one yet. Must look!

  12. @Polish and charms I've had the same problem. I used the original Suave dry shampoo twice and it was empty. I'm hesitant to try again. Any tips would be great!

    1. I bought the Suave Keratin dry shampoo, and it was great (no residue, no grease, nice smell), but I only got to use it ONCE--then the spray stopped working!!!! It also felt like there was very little product left in the can. So disappointed!

    2. Hey ladies--I am SO sorry to hear that this has been happening to you. I've heard that this exact issue has happened to other people and I believe that Suave addressed the issue when they got complaints about the original formula. If my memory serves me correctly, I think it's actually a pin-hole leak that causes both air AND the product to leak, so that's why it would feel like you barely had any left even if you only used it once. My suggestion would be to return it to the place you bought it (hopefully you bought it at a drugstore with a good return policy) and ask for a refund/exchange.

Again, I'm sorry this has happened to you. If it helps, none of the cans I have owned (I was sent some for review and also purchased some with my own funds) had this problem, so not ALL cans are like this!

  13. Great review! I agree with everything 100%. I've been using it for a few weeks and I'm in love. I'll never try another dry shampoo. I'm hooked!

  14. I'm dying to try this new one! I love the original Suave so sounds like this one would be equal to or better!

Just wondering what your fave or rank would be of the dry shampoos you've tried?

  15. Hmm I'm hesitant to try this one after the other didn't work out for me

  16. Wow I love how this doesn't leave a white residue behind. I have VERY dark brown hair and when I use the other Suave Dry Shampoo (which I LOVE) I just can't stand the white residue that is left behind. I can't wait to try this and hope I can find it soon! :)

  17. Sounds nice! I love the original Suave one, although I do find the scent to be overpowering at times if I use a lot of it. Maybe I will try this one when my can of the other one runs out.

  18. The suave dry shampoo was on my to try list after your recent post about dry shampoos but I haven't finished my current one. If you had to pick one which would you pick? The original or the new one? Thanks so much for this post! I have similar hair and I am still looking for the perfect dry shampoo and you have been a great help!

  19. I've tried a ton of drugstore dry shampoos and found that they do not work that great for me. I've been using Oscar Blandi's dry shampoo (the white powder kind), and found that it works the best so far - even with my black hair. It's $11 for a 1 oz bottle but it last a good 4 months which is a steal because I used to go through a bottle every 3-4 weeks (at $4/month that's a savings).

    1. I love the loose Oscar Blandi dry shampoo! I tried the kind in the can and didn't like it as well. I just bought this Suave dry shampoo to try to get a less expensive dupe, but it leaves my hair kind of sticky/tangly and doesn't absorb oil as well. I have to say, it does leave my hair looking less matte/ more natural than the Oscar Blandi. I'll probably finish my can since I don't hate it, but I still prefer the Oscar Blandi... I've had my 2.5/$19 bottle for almost a year and there's still about 1/3 left!

  20. I think your hair looked awesome after this dry shampoo.

  21. I can't wait to try it! I think for dry shampoos it's not worth it to go high end because suave, tresemme, etc brands work very well and are affordable!

  22. Thanks for posting this! I've been looking for a dry shampoo I can afford after I got hooked on a rather pricey brand. I too have bangs and living in Texas = tons of sweat which = greasy, stringy bangs.
So excited to try this :)

  23. I should have picked this up when i saw it at a drugstore. I want a not so strong scent, so this might be perfect.

  24. Has anyone tried the 30 day Keratin treatment? Clumps of my hair fell out during the application and periodically over the following week!!!!
I love the shampoo and conditioner but will NEVER use the at-home treatment again.

  25. Wow really? I've been using the Cocoa Keratin daily shampoo and I can honestly say it works amazingly well on my hair, but I guess a dry shampoo for those "lazy days" would be good too! :)

  26. I used to get it at Target all the time for $1.79... Now I see it has gone up to $4.00!!! That's quite an increase
