A closer look at the new Neutrogena Naturals Skincare Collection

A few days ago I gave you a little preview of this new collection from Neutrogena, and now that I was finally able to spot these products in person, I'd like to give you a bit more information that some of you may find quite interesting.

 Neutrogena Naturals Skincare Collection

Lip Balm (retail: $3.49 at CVS)
Face and Body Bar (retail: $4.49 at CVS)
Purifying Pore Scrub (retail: $7.99 at CVS)
Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover ($7.99 at CVS)
Purifying Facial Cleanser ($7.99 at CVS)

As I mentioned in my previous post, this new line contains "no harsh chemical sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, dyes or phthalates".

After taking a closer look at the packaging, I also discovered that all of these product clearly state "This product not tested on animals". I seem to recall reading that Neutrogena (Johnson and Johnson) was not cruelty-free, so if this is a concern for you,  I just want you to be aware that I did see the "not tested on animals" blurb on the packaging for these products. Also, all of the paper packaging is FSC Certified.

Another interesting thing I noticed is that instead of a traditional list of ingredients, Neutrogena has broken each ingredient into a chart. The first column says "Ingredient" and the second column says "Source". For  instance, on the lip balm package, it says "Ingredient: Beeswax. Source: Beehives." and so on. I thought that was an interesting take on how to present ingredients to consumers.

So, have you tried anything from this line yet? Are you curious? I'd love to hear from you!

  2. This does look very interesting! I've been trying to reduce the amounts of sulfates and other chemicals in the stuff I use, so I'll definitely look into this.

And I don't know if this would factor into this, but a company can say that a product (i.e. in its final state) hasn't been tested on animals even if individual ingredients within the product have been. Obviously there's no way to know if that's the case with any given product, but the tricky wording does happen sometimes. Hopefully they're not doing that, and it really is cruelty free :)

  3. April: Oh I'm sucker for new scrubs too. haha! :)

Caitlin: I hear ya. I've noticed that a lot, like "This finished product not tested on animals". But I just wanted to point it out because it was the first time, that I can recall, seeing *anything* about animal testing on their products. :)

  4. I'm going to have to check out the packages and look at the ingredients list, having them described like that sounds really neat.

  5. very interesting! I've noticed many companies are now offering a more natural line for consumers who either have sensitive skin or want to use products with more natural ingredients.

  7. I saw these yesterday at Walgreens: on the display itself it says if you buy 2 products, get $2 back in register rewards. next time I'll snap a pic when I'm there

  10. That ingredient list thing is a little weird, I think it might confuse more consumers than help them understand what the ingredients actually are. I hope people do their own research about the ingredients! I can't wait to see the ingredient lists to analyze them on my blog!

  11. I love the idea of having the source of ingredients on a product label.
I'm on the hunt for a good, drugstore makeup remover so I'll have to check theirs out. Thanks for posting this!

  12. My understanding is that even though the parent company is not cruelty free, Neutrogena products are all cruelty free.
