Review: EOS Lip Balm (possibly the coolest packaging of all time)

Thanks to my dear friend and fellow blogger, Amber from BeautyJunkiesUnite, I was introduced to EOS (Evolution of Smooth) Lip Balm a few months ago. When I started seeing displays pop up at my local Rite-Aid stores, I knew I had to pick one up because, really, look at this thing!

It's a little egg-shaped globe with a flat bottom and the packaging is made of thick, durable plastic that feels kind of like rubber. You unscrew the top and there it is: a dome of lip balm just begging to be applied to your lips!

I really can't decide what my favorite thing is about this product, so let me list them all and you be the judge:

1) The ingredients. This balm is 95% organic and 100% natural it doesn't contain any petrolatum or parabens. Here's the full list of ingredients: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Olea Europa (Olive) Fruit Oil, Beeswax (Cire D’Abeille), Simmondsia Chinensis (Joioba) Seed Oil, Flavor (Aroma), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Stevia Rebaudiana Leaf/Stem Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit Extract, Fragaria Vesca (Strawberry) Fruit (Extract), Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit Extract

2) The packaging and design. Completely unique, interesting, innovative and just plain cool.

3) The flavor and fragrance. The flavor I purchased is "Summer Fruit" (other available flavors are "Honeysuckle Honeydew" and "Sweet Mint") and it smells and tastes divine because it literally contains blueberry, strawberry and peach extracts. Hello! When was the last time you used a balm that tasted like fruit because it actually contained fruit and not some mysterious "artificial flavorings"?

4) The texture and performance. It actually works! Honestly, I love the feel and texture of this product and it makes my lips smooth for hours and hours.

5) It's mysterious. How does it retain its shape, even in heat? I mean, I tested this product during a 110 degree heat wave and it didn't melt. I kept opening it to see if it would be a pile of goo after sitting in my 100 degree house all day, but no! It was always there, ready and waiting for me in its original dome-like shape. And when I applied it during times of extreme heat, it didn't cave under the pressure of my lips! It stayed strong and didn't lose its shape or turn into goop. Like I said, it's mysterious. And awesome.

6) The price. EOS Lip Balms retail for $3.29, which is comparable, if not less expensive, than other lip balms you can find at your local drugstore (and as you know, organic and natural lip balms are often $5 or more).

My fellow lip balm junkies, do you plan on picking up an EOS Lip Balm? Or maybe you already own one? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Update: A reader asked to see what this balm looks like with the lid on, so here you go!

  1. Ooh! I love that it has real fruit extract in it!

A few weeks ago the company was sending out FREE balms to anyone who signed up online. I'm not sure how I even knew about it...I think someone posted about it on MUA. Anyways, I'm still waiting for it to come but I'm really excited!!

  2. Hey Lisa Kate! Wow, I had no idea they were running that offer, but congrats to you on taking advantage of it. That's awesome! I hope you like this balm as much as I do--and please let me know your thoughts when you get it? thanks! xo

  3. I've been seeing these everywhere!!! I have so many balms I've tried to restrain myself from getting one. But you know what, that does it- I need to get one!!!

Reading Lisa Kate's comment above reminds me that I did sign up on their website a while ago- still, no balm in the mail though. It will probably show up in my mail box the day I buy it in the store ;)

  6. Hey Tanya! Seriously, I wouldn't say this if I didn't really mean it, but you NEED this balm! It's just way too cool to pass up. :) But hopefully you'll get it in the mail before you finally cave in!

Hey Halifax! I'm sorry you didn't get one of these in your swap, but now you have a reason to do another swap, right? lol! :)

Hey Anon--I posted a pic of this product with the lid on--I added to the end of my original post for you. :)

Also, I've worn this under lipstick and it's worked out just fine (like any other balm I've used--it dilutes the color of the lipstick a tiny bit nothing too bad.) Hope that helps, and please let me know what you think if you get one? Thanks! :)

  7. I'm so glad you reviewed this! I keep staring at it at Walgreens!! Now I feel better about this, and I'm gonna give it a try.

  8. Whoa! Look at that thing! It's awesome and quirky all at the same time. Is it moisturizing at all? I'm a lip balm/gloss junkie, but I found that so many of them don't moisturize and I end up with dry lips.

  9. I'm waiting for my free one to arrive in the mail... still. =/

  10. I also am waiting for my freebie. Have to say, their website is impressive, and it was cute how they did a little personality test on me to figure out which flavour I'd like (Sweet Mint is the one en route I believe). I have not seen this in my drugstores yet but the online buzz has me totally psyched. I LOVE the design.

  11. I got one in Walgreens a few weeks ago, and I love it! It's so cute! I especially like wearing it under lipstick, because it's sort of thick and it doesn't seem to interfere with the ls too much.

  12. He he - I like how you list it as "mysterious". It is really interesting though. I've never seen anything like it.

  13. Hey Stephanie! I'm so glad I could help. And please let me know what you think if you get one. xo

Hey Laurie! I know what you mean about how some balms actually end up making your lips feel drier, but I can tell you that's not the case with this one. It's definitely moisturizing. It makes my lips soooo smooth and it stays put for hours. I really love it. :)

Hey Rai and beautifulmonday! I reeeeaaally hope you both get your balms in the mail SOON! I'm excited for you both to try this out and let me know what you think! I hope you agree w/ me that it's awesome. :)

Hey femputer! I'm so glad you like this balm too! Yay! I don't have to feel guilty about this like I do with that darn Almay liner. LOL! :) xo

Hey ndoodles! lol...it is so mysterious. ;) Let me know what you think of this if you try it, ok? xo

  21. I prefer to use a balm lip when i feel my lips dry. i think the smoothless of our skin is very important most of all our lips that is a erotic part. i take care very much my image specially when i have an important meeting that i had recently in

    costa rica investment opportunities.

  22. Haha I think I know why it doesn't melt! It's got a lot of beeswax in it, and I assume that makes up the wax dome part. Of course it doesn't melt; if beeswax melted that easily, the bees in Africa would be screwed over. Haha, just kidding! Going to get my first EOS tomorrow. Saw the lemon and mint ones and I am so excited! There's a 2 for 6 dollars deal going on at Walgreens right now too, so it's great timing.

  23. I (guiltily) love my eos honeysuckle honeydew lip balm probably more so for its cute packaging than for what its true intended purpose is.

However, I love that it's organic and moisturizing. I have found that many organic/all natural balms are drying. I didn't know that they use real fruit extracts; now I know why the non-artificial scent appeals so much to me.

  24. I have these in Sweet Mint, Honeysuckle Honeydew and Strawberry Sorbet; I have to say, these are the BEST! HH is the creamiest by far- it reminds me of honeydew with whipped cream- and the mint is a close second in texture. All 3 smell great; SS reminds me of a light fruit parfait, and SM is soothing, calming and pepperminty. LOVE MY EOSES!!!(eoses? eosees?-moose, mooses- hah!)
