I am a HUGE fan of Maybelline's limited edition collections. I've gone nuts right here on this blog about previous LE collections such as Poptimistic Pretty, Sweet Thing, and Salsa Sun. There always seem to be one or two show-stoppers in each collection that generate buzz and instant lemmings, and I don't think this new collection disappoints.
A few of you have told me about the LE Fashion Week Fall 2010 collection, but when Maybelline released last year's limited edition fashion week collection, it never surfaced at my local drugstores. So really, I thought I'd never get to see this year's version in person. But then the other day at Rite Aid, I walked in and saw this:
Maybelline Limited Edition Fashion Week Fall 2010 Collection
Everything except for the black eyeliner is Limited Edition, so if you spot this display at your local drugstores, get these goodies while you can! Also, notice that there's a tear-pad with $1 coupons, which are good toward ANY Maybelline product. Yay for tear-pads!
Here's a closer look:
The names of these polishes are Divine Wine (left) and Gray-T Glamour (right). Divine Wine is a very classic dark burgundy and Gray-T Glamour is a cement-gray creme that is in the same ballpark as Sally Hansen Wet Cement, but maybe a shade or two darker.
Also, the products above the polishes are blushes, even though the shades look more like bronzers to me.
And as if that weren't enough, I turned the corner and spotted the separate nail display, which is also part of the Fashion Week Fall 2010 collection:
Dark, vampy colors galore!
From L to R, starting from the back row:
Charming Cobalt (dark navy blue with subtle shimmer)
Classic Black (true black creme)
Chic Chocolate (deep blackened brown with a tiny hint of shimmer)
Berry Fancy (deep purplish-berry-wine creme)
Pretty in Purple (very dark purple with subtle shimmer)
Grand in Green (very dark forest green with a tiny hint of shimmer)
So the big question is, what did I buy, right? Well I wasn't going to buy anything (trying to be good!) but then I remembered that Maybelline is 40% off this week at Rite Aid and, in addition to the tear-pad coupons on this display, I also had a Rite Aid Video Values coupon for $2 off a Maybelline item in my purse (you can stack these with manufacturer's coupons, of course!). So here's what I got, and what I paid:
Maybelline Limited Edition Grand in Green
retail price: $4.15
40% off sale price: $2.49
minus $1 tear-pad coupon from the display: $1.49
For $1.49, I just couldn't pass this one up. But I'm curious exactly how close this shade is to the new NYC core collection shade Flat Iron Green. I haven't swatched them side-by-side, but I think that Grand in Green might be murkier than Flat Iron Green. If anyone would like me to do a swatch comparison, let me know!
Of all three of the LE eyeshadow trios, I absolutely could not resist this one, and I'm so glad I bought it. I literally haven't been this excited about a drugstore eyeshadow trio in I don't know how long:
Maybelline Limited Edition Charming Cobalt Eyeshadow Trio
retail price: $5.29
40% off sale price: $3.17
minus $1 tear-pad coupon from this display: $2.17
minus Rite Aid Video Values $2 Maybelline coupon: $0.17
Yep, people, I got this eyeshadow trio for a whopping 17 CENTS! I'm telling you, it truly pays to clip coupons, stack coupons and wait for sales.
So why do I love this trio so much? Well for starters, there's a lovely taupe with a satin finish (top), followed by a gorgeous charcoal-teal matte (middle) and a beautiful warm, and very wearable, champagne shimmer (bottom). For me, this is the ideal palette for fall. I'm growing tired of all the sparkle and shimmer of summer and I'm craving some more subdued and soft, yet interesting shades for fall. This trio definitely fits the bill, and I can't wait to play around with it. If you'd like me to post an eye look using this trio, just let me know.
Oh, and one more thing: I took a peek at all of the Color Sensational lip colors in this LE collection and can confirm that they're all cremes (no shimmers) and they are GORGEOUS in person. Lots of plums, wines and reds.
So, have you seen the Maybelline Fashion Week Fall 2010 Collection in your area yet? If so, have you purchased anything or are you thinking about purchasing anything? I'd love to hear from you!
PS: While we're on the topic of Maybelline, the beautiful Rai from Glam Morena just told me that there's a $2 Maybelline Eyestudio coupon in this month's Cosmo magazine! So definitely look for that if you're planning on buying any Eyestudio goodies. Thanks for the heads-up, Rai!
I read the word taupe and rushed over here, haha. Lovely colors! I would have gotten the same eyeshadow trio that you did. I would probably rush right out to find this display but I'm trying to be good too. But... I really want to try the Chocolate nail polish. Hrm...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh that Maybelline trio! I was just looking at swatches of the two NARS fall e/s duos, and this looks like a combination of them both! And the pigmentation looks really good. How is it compared to the good L'Oreal HIP ones? So far, those are the only drugstore shadows I like.
ReplyDeleteAdele
I wish Gray-T Glamour was a shimmer. Charcoal-teal matte really sounds awesome, to be honest with you!!! I would LOVE an eye look from you.
ReplyDeleteAs lovely as the polish colors are, I didn't purchase any from the polish display I saw today in Walgreens. Utterly shocking!! I liked them but felt I had some at home that were durn-near close to dupes of these.
ReplyDeleteBut that shadow is a fine fall collection. :)
Oooh! I would LOVE to see a comparison between Flat Iron Green and Grand in Green! It looks like the Maybelline one might be a little bit more on the gray side, no? I'm looking for a really dark green creme and would rather not drop $9 on Dark Room at Sephora ...
ReplyDelete...IT LOOKS LIKE THE NARS RAJASTHAN DUO! Oh my gosh, I hope my Walgreens got this display in.
ReplyDeleteDROOL. What's your take on the wear time of those polishes? Those look like some great colors, but I find I'm so hard on my nails (even with thin coats, CND stickey and INM out the door), a day or so is the longest I can get. Drugstore polishes are especially bad, and my first try with those Sally Hansen complete manicures was quite disappointing, even though those are supposed to have a base and top coat built in.
ReplyDeleteI tried stacking these same offers but many of the sales associates at my local Riteaids refuse to enter/use more than one coupon. I've also been told that they can't enter the coupon code manually (fyi--after some negotiation, I discovered that's not the case).
ReplyDeleteLong story short, how good of a deal one gets seems to depend largely on whether or not the sales associates are willing to do more than ring up the item. This frustrates me to no end.
A Gal on a Budget: I hope this helps clear up any issues you may have with cashiers the next time you try to stack VV and manufacturer's coupons:

If you have any questions, just let me know! :D
You totally got me lemming these! I got the gray and purple polishes and the gray and cobalt palettes. :)
ReplyDeleteI think...I'm more amazed at the $0.17 purchase than the actual products themselves! haha
ReplyDeleteI've been having a real problem using the tear pad coupons from this Maybelline Fall display. For some reason, when purchasing their nail polish, this coupon does not go through; the register beeps ever time. The "beauty advisor" was trying to convince me that it is because nail polish isn't pictured on the coupon. Come on! It clearly states ANY Maybelline product. I told her that, as well as the fact that a company can't include every item they make in one single picture. If polishes were excluded, it would have said so, or it would state the products that are applicable (i.e. eye or lip products only) She refused to do anything about it, and I called the manager, who then simply pushed the coupon through. She gave me a nasty attitude the whole time, as if I was doing something wrong (by using the coupon from the display to purchase a polish from the display) ridiculous, right?
ReplyDelete@nerdyvixen I've had problems with that as well...I just say well the coupon says ANY product, so suck it and take the coupon lol well in a nicer way ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that the lady was being dumb and poopy though =(
I just bought and wore Charming Cobalt over the weekend and it looks fab. The blue color in the palatte looked a little more gray than I thought, but that probably because I used a makeup brush to apply it. If I used the sponge applicator it would probably be more intense. That being said, if you pair this palatte with the Pewter unstoppable eyeliner from Maybelline, the effects is really nice...a subtle smokey effect.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I wanted to tell you that I also came up with a nail polish pairing you might want to try if you like dark, vampy nails. I have the Sally Hansen Salon Manicure color in Midnight in NY and then I put a light top coat of the Sally Hansen Xtreme wear nail color in red carpet on the top. I used two coats of the Black and then one light coat of the Red. It makes your nails look not quite red, but not quite black either. The red glitter in Red Carpet gives it a real goth kind of look.
Berry Beautiful is like my favorite lipstick ever. The color is just beautiful.
