Review: Softsoap Décor Collection Liquid Hand Soaps

I first posted about the new Softsoap Décor Collection Liquid Hand Soaps back in February (you can click here for press info) and by now, I'm guessing you've probably seen these in the hand soap aisle at your local drugstores, big box stores and grocery stores. I received all three scents in this collection a while back and I've been testing them for several weeks now. If you're curious about these and you'd like to hear my thoughts, keep reading!

NOTE: If you're interested in trying these, they're BOGOFREE at Walgreens this week (now through 5/17).

Softsoap Décor Collection Liquid Hand Soaps
(retail: around $2.49 each, 10 oz.)

The first thing you'll notice about the packaging is that it's more "premium" than the regular Softsoap hand soap bottles. The bottles have a long, rectangular shape and the pump is pearlescent white:

I find the design of these bottles to be quite cute and they look adorable on my kitchen and bathroom sinks. The hang-tag is easily removable if you'd like the bottles to appear more low-key.

Let's start with Wild Basil & Lime:

If you're a fan of Bath & Body Works Fresh Lime Basil, you'll probably love this. It's not an exact dupe, but I actually think I prefer the Softsoap version--the BBW version is kind of strong and overpowering sometimes to my nose, but this one's a bit softer to me. It's one of those fresh, herbal scents that can be unisex without being too masculine, if that makes sense.

Next up, Peony & Plum:

I love anything plum-scented so I was super excited to try this one. To me, this actually smells like a combination of cherry blossom and plum, rather than peony and plum. So I think that if you are generally drawn to cherry blossom scents, you might enjoy this one quite a bit. The plum note in this is lovely. Sometimes plum notes in bath and body products can be a disaster and they end up not smelling like plum at all. But the plum in this fragrance has a lush, velvety note to it, and it mixes quite well with the peony (which, again, smells like cherry blossom to my nose). It's not a straight-up floral scent and you can definitely detect that velvety plum--I find it to be a very nice, evenly-balanced mix of the two.

And finally, Orchid Petals & Mint Water:

I absolutely love watermint notes in my bath and body products, and this one is quite lovely. I would best describe this as a fresh, aquatic scent with a mint background. I love this type of combination because I sometimes find straight-up marine scents to be heavy and they can give me a headache, but the mint in this keeps it light and fresh. Like Wild Lime & Basil, this can definitely be unisex but it's not in-your-face masculine. The mint manages to keep it light and fresh, but there's not so much mint that it ends up smelling like a men's body wash.

Additional thoughts: These hand soaps leave my hands very clean (squeaky-clean, actually!) without any type of residue left behind. It's been unseasonably warm in San Diego while I've been testing these, so my hands are a dry mess right now and I can't really tell if the formula of these soaps is making them feel any drier (they're just dry to begin with). But I have not experienced any itching or any type of dry, tight feeling immediately after using these. The formula lathers nicely, but I don't get a crazy abundance of lather with these. I find the formula to be a bit thicker and more "preminum-feeling" than the regular Softsoap hand soaps. The fragrance of all three soaps does stick around on my hands for about an hour after use, which I like because, well, I like these scents! I can also smell the fragrance while I'm washing my hands and the fragrance lingers around the sink area in my home for a while after use (which, again, I personally love).

FINAL VERDICT: I really like these hand soaps. I think the scents are lovely and the design of the packaging is fresh and lovely as well. For a "premium" drugstore hand soap line, I think Softsoap did a really nice job with these, and I don't have a single complaint about them. The dispensers have not clogged since I've been testing them, and they dispense the perfect amount with one press. I will definitely purchase--probably this week while they're BOGOFREE at Walgreens (now through 5/17).

  1. I have the Wild Basil & Lime and Orchid Petals & Mint Water and LOVE them. I find the smell to be distinct but soft at the same time. I agree that they're a big thicker feeling as well, which I also like. I was in need of some new hand soap and was about to buy some at Bath and Body Works when I saw your first post about these. I practically ran out to Target to buy them. I'm so glad I did. Thanks!!!

  2. The unisex aspects appeal to me. Them being buy one get one free at Walgreens this week is a good incentive to try.
