NEW Palmer's Skin Therapy Face Oil

Over the past month or so, I have heard from SEVERAL of you about this new-for-2014 product from Palmer's that's been popping up in stores lately (it's also available online--I'll provide that info at the end of this post).

I've heard from readers who have been 1) using it 2) desperately looking for it and 3) requesting that I review it. Those of you who have been using it have all loved it (and I mean really loved it) and I want to let you know that I'll definitely review this product in the future (I have to get my hands on it first!). I also just want to share some product info with you, in case you haven't seen it yet. Take a look:

NEW Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Face Oil
(retail: $9.99, 1.0 oz)

This product contains Retinol and Vitamin C and also ten "pure oils." You will definitely need to use a sunscreen (which you should be wearing on your face every day anyway!) when you use any products that contain Retinol, but you probably already knew that.

What intrigues me the most about this product is that it contains both Retinol and Vitamin C. I recommend reading this article by Paula Begoun (of Paula's Choice) where she busts common Retinol myths, and specifically the one about not using Retinol and Vitamin C together. Paula, whom I have trusted for many years now when it comes to skincare advice, says that you can actually put your skin at a disadvantage by not using these two ingredients together because Vitamin C actually helps Retinol to work better.

Here's the product info for the new Palmer's Skin Therapy Face Oil, from the drugstore.com website:

  1. Really interesting. Thanks for the insight about Vitamin C and Retinol. I've been seeing throughout the years Palmer has been releasing a lot of neat products ;)

  2. Wow....looks really cool. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for this. I'd never heard of the retinol + vitamin C connection. I'm pretty sure you gave Neutrogena night cream a rave review, and I don't remember that having vitamin C in it. Do you still use that? (After I post, I'll have to investigate your post and my tube).
I tried vitamin C oil once, and it turned my hands orange, for some reason. Hope I have better luck with this one!!

  3. The vitamin C and retinol combo sounds intriguing. If I find this I think I'm going to have to buy it.

  4. Found this at Walgreens tonight! Haven't tried it yet, but I've been enjoying the L'Oreal Age Perfect face oil. I'm really curious about retinol and Vitamin C claims in this one!

  5. I definitely want to get my hands on this. I just checked Drugstore.com. It's on sale for $7.99!! Woohoo

  6. I love face oil and will now look to buy this and try it. It's sure is less expensive than Josie Maran which I really like!

  7. What sunscreen would you recommend for daily use over something like this? I typically always looked for a daily moisturizer that contained sunscreen, I never really thought about buying just a sunscreen. Maybe I'm overthinking this...

  8. I've never used an oil on my face before - does it feel gross, or refreshing?? I look forward to your review on it, as the idea of it greatly intrigues me. I like the products from Palmer's, generally speaking, so maybe I will have to go try this out.

    1. I can't tell you how this one feels because I haven't tried it yet, but all of the reviews I link to above say it feels quite light. There are definitely face oils that feel heavier but in my general experience it really depends on how much you use. I only need a few drops of the Badger Balm face oil I reviewed a while back, and I'm good to go! :)

  9. I'm a big fan of the Palmer's coco butter lotion for my hands and body. As great as this product sounds I have my reservations because of my sensitive skin. Products with silicone, or fragrance both irritate my skin and cause breakouts. For now I'll just stick to my retinol and homemade vitamin C serum.

  10. I was REALLY excited about this until I saw "rosehip fragrance" on the box. Why oh why do so many great brands keep putting fragrance in their facial treatments?! If your skin is irritated by fragrances, the last place you want to use a fragranced product is your face! And if you're like me and you get migraines from strong, perfumey smells, you are NEVER going to use a fragranced product anywhere on your body - and especially not near your nose! And does anyone actually WANT their face to smell like flowers all day long?

I definitely won't be buying this face oil unless they come out with a fragrance-free version. I'm REALLY disappointed in Palmer's right now. I love their other products because they work really well and I can actually enjoy the natural cocoa butter scent without getting a migraine, and I've been really excited about this face oil since I first heard about it a few months ago.

    1. I don't know if this will help, but here's a quote from one of the reviews I linked to above:

"The rosehip smell is light and pleasant, and my husband--who notoriously complains about strong moisturizer-smells--hasn't even noticed the smell of this product. "

Also, rosehip isn't a flowery fragrance. It does not smell like roses...rosehip actually has a bit of an earthy scent to it.

    2. Do you know whether this is going to be sold in sealed packaging? Being able to "test" the scent before I buy it would definitely help. Or if I can find it at Walmart I know I'll be able to return it if it gives me a migraine. (I've had to return a lot of products to Walmart over the years because of the issues I have with fragrances, and they've always been very understanding about it.)

I would still be happiest if there was a fragrance-free option because it seems that I'm becoming even MORE sensitive to smells nowadays. Several hand lotions and one deodorant, which I had been using for over a year, suddenly started giving me migraines recently. I have no idea why I'm suddenly irritated by fragrances that never used to bother me, but I hesitate to buy ANYTHING with a fragrance now. I'd hate to fall in love with a product only for the fragrance to start giving me migraines a few months later. It's very frustrating. :/

  11. I found a sample in a magazine and to me it's a heavy oil. I have dry skin, too. My favorite oils right now are the Josie Maran and Boots Botanics/organic @ Target.

  12. I don't think the product on you link to on the Walmart page is the new one you are talking about. (Note the product size.)

  13. I was excited for this, and then saw coconut oil, which can cause comedogenic breakouts. :( I definitely get breakouts from it. Oh well, I'll stick with my rosehip seed oil

  14. I haven't been able to find this anywhere except Kmart and it's $11 there! Not at my local CVS, Wal-Mart, or Walgreens.

  15. I found this at Walgreens and picked it up. I've never used a facial oil and I have oily but dry skin. I'm getting a bit desperate to find something to help with the dryness so I took a chance.

I'm on my fourth day and I'm loving it. The first time I used it, I used a bit too much and the fragrance hung around for a while but now I don't notice it except right after I've used it. My skin has a tiny sheen in my oily areas, but it's more of a glow than shine. A bit of dusting powder takes care of it. Usually powder shows off how dry my skin is, but that doesn't happen after using the oil. And it lasts all day.

I use a moisturizer over it and then maybe powder. That's it. I haven't tried it on its own since my skin has been so dry. I thought this might be too much, but its worked out nicely. If I touch my face, I can feel the lotion but I can't see it.

My cheeks are very red and I think it's already helping with that. My skin tone looks more even. But it's only been a couple of days.

It hasn't caused any breakouts or anything for me. One night I forgot to use it and I got a pimple but that was probably a coincidence. Some products irritate my skin but I haven't found a likely culprit. Even gentle products will cause a burning sensation. Not getting that.

Thanks for the heads up because I never would have noticed this otherwise.

  16. I picked up a bottle and I have to say I'm loving it! My skin feels so soft after I've used it and I think it even looks better. Here I am at the end of the day and my skin is still soft but not greasy. If they would put some SPF into the mix it would be my holy grail product!

    1. YES! SPF would be a great addition.

    2. GAH! I clicked the enter button too soon. The rest of my reply .....then I could wear this during the day.

  17. A lot of the plant extract type of ingredients that are in it sound nice, but I wish it didn't have dimethicone in it. My BB cream does have silicone type ingredients in it, so I don't want to use any other skincare that also has them. My BB cream also has mineral oil and parabens, so I guess it's full of stuff that many ladies usually try to avoid. I'm not obsessive about it, but I just thought maybe I shouldn't pile one on top of the other.

  18. I sooooo love this oil. I picked some up after reading your post and have not regretted it. It's been almost a month now and my skin looks great. I have very dry sensitive skin and I use this at night only because of the Retinol. I've had no skin issues with it. In the morning my skin looks bright and refreshed and feels oh so soft. <3

  19. I found this little gem in a suscribed issue of Cosmo last year (September or October 2013)... the little packet offered about two weeks of sparse usage... OMG I loved it and drove all over my town, and the next town, and the next city trying to find it before I moved to Germany but unfortunately came up empty handed.

AS SOON as I can find it here or have it shipped here... Im buying as much as my little pocketbook will allow!

After the first use I noticed at the end of the day that my face was not oily, it was soft and dewy.... after about a week of it I noticed firmer skin, more even skin tone, fewer lines, even my acne scars where changed slightly. A little goes a very long way! And buy the time I was finished with the sample I noticed that I didnt NEED so much the concealers and foundations that I was using. The frangrance was not a put off for me, as a previous post said, it does have an earthy scent but kind of on the tee side. It did not interfere with my cosmetics and I didnt need to use a toner. All I can say about this product is WOW.

  20. I love this product! I only use it at night, because it is a bit heavy...but the difference I see in my skin in the morning is amazing! It even cured some of the skin allergy breakouts (I have really sensitive skin) I had. I bought a bottle as soon as I tried it.
