It has come to my attention from several readers that, over the past few days, the clearance prices for products by Physicians Formula and Rimmel (as listed here) may have reverted back to the original retail price in the system, despite the presence of clearance stickers on the merchandise.
I have no idea why the prices may have reverted back to full price, and I cannot verify this personally, but I have heard from over a dozen readers from across the country who have experienced this while trying to purchase clearance items by Physicians Formula and Rimmel over the weekend.
TO BE SAFE, I strongly suggest that even if you see clearance stickers on these products, you SCAN THEM AT THE RED SCANNER BOX FIRST, to ensure that these particular products are coming up on clearance in the system.
Since this change seems to have JUST taken effect, it's understandable that the stickers may not have been removed on these particular products yet. So please do scan these products before you buy them, to avoid any conflicts at the register!
Thanks so much to everyone who has brought this issue to my attention, and a special thanks to Kittypolishnbags for providing some extra details.
PS: I would just like say that, while clearance sales are amazing, they're a privilege and not a right. We're lucky to have access to such amazing deals from retailers a few times a year, and I think it's important to have patience and tolerance when it comes to giant clearance sales like this. There may be employees who are unaware that the prices have just reverted, and the task of labeling (and removing labels) on each and every clearance product is enormous. So please keep that in mind when you're shopping!
G, this happened to me this weekend (yesterday) and I spoke to the woman in the beauty department and she thought it could be do to the PF items being on sale this week ($20 purchase gets you a free tote bag).
ReplyDeleteShe was super nice and had the cashier ring me up manually.
This was in the Seal Beach/Long Beach area.
The sales person said they were going to be in contact with their corp so hopefully it's resolved soon!
Aaah, thank you so much, Nicole, for the insight! That could very well explain it. I appreciate you taking the time to share this info with us!
DeleteI have had that problem before. But generally if the discount sticker is still on the product they have to give you the reduced price.
DeleteSweet! This means there is a chance that the clearance prices will come back if they either fix it or after this special offer this week. Fingers crossed and thanks for the info!
DeleteI'm glad you said this because I thought it was just an occurrence with the last CVS I was in. This particular CVS has labeled some of the clearance items. All PF and Rimmel products rang full price and had no stickers while Revlon & Malini products, which also had no stickers, rang at the discounted prices. Covergirl products all rang for the full price but because they had clearance stickers the associates asked no questions and simply did a manual override at the register. Again, I thought it was an isolated incident but now I don't know why to make of it. I plan on going to another CVS tonight to pick up some other products I was unable to get on my last two outing...fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that I came across this today because this happened to me yesterday with a Physician's Formula product. It had the sticker but it was ringing up full price. I'm in MA and the law states that if it's marked a certain price they have to honor it. So I was given the clearance price no questions asked. Not sure what's it's like in other states.
ReplyDeleteI found that a lot of the makeup products were not on sale in my area, but I did get the Nicole/OPI polishes and some eye makeup remover, and I was thrilled with that. My store didn't have any stickers on anything, but I would imagine if it has a sticker on it still that they would honor the discount no matter what the computer says. However, it probably just depends on how nice your cashier is.
ReplyDeleteBy the way-- I SO appreciate the list of sale items. Since my store doesn't have stickers, I would have no idea what was on sale if not for your list. I was super happy to score some $2 Nicole polishes!
This happened to my sister and I when we purchased Rimmel and Physicians Formula. We had already made several trips and knew things were clearance. The other cashier not checking us out accused us of changing stickers. She said she had put the stickers on herself so they should be right. She did this with a line of people behind us. It was very rude and embarasing. It was clear their mistake and not ours. I could not believe she did that. It was very upsetting.
ReplyDeleteThat is a horrible accusation. :( I would email CVS or call 1-888-607-4287 to give them some feedback. I grabbed the PF Powder Palette in Creamy Natural with a 75% off sticker and it too rang up full price. The person at the register manually adjusted it without hesitating. As what should have been done.
DeleteMy Rimmel products had 75% off stickers on them but rang up full price and she did it manually.
ReplyDeleteThis happened to me today with PF, but the items didn't have stickers on them (nothing pf is, at my only local cvs), so I didn't try to convince the cashiers, just put them back. However, it ALSO happened with a Cover Girl mascara that *did* have a 50% off sticker; the cashier was confused as to why it rang up as full price, and did the adjustment manually. What a mystery!
ReplyDeleteI bought the Mood Boosting Blush and it was marked and rang up correctly. However that was last week. I haven't returned yet so thanks for the heads up.
ReplyDeleteThis happened to me this past Sunday as well. I was checking out rimmell nail polishes which were clearly marked at 75% off that rang up as full price. He did a manual over ride for me as well...
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened to me this past Sunday at cvs on clearly marked 75% off rimmell polishes. They honored the sale price though. Hope they figure it out as it's clearly nationwide. For the person accused of switching stickers, I would definitely contact corporate ASAP on that...
ReplyDeleteAs always, thank you so much for keeping us informed!
ReplyDeleteI have a close friend who works at CVS so I asked her what's up. She said that even when things are put on clearance the manager has to redo it in the computer every saturday just like they would normal sale items. She also states that you can bring the item with the sticker on it and ask them to adjust the price. Most employees will change it for you. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteI bought the Physicians Formula creamy natural Powder Pallet with 75% sticker and the Rimmel Scandeleyes Gel Eyeliner (that I bought a few days earlier) also with a 75% sticker and yes both had reverted. I asked the cashier when they were ringing up if it would take it off at the end and he said yes. Well i checked out with other products, walked out the door and noticed they weren't marked down so i just went back in and he refunded the products and rerang them up at the discount. Big difference in price.
ReplyDeleteThe two Milani blushes that were on clearance are also ringing up as full price. After going to 5 CVS I found one that had them at 50% off
