Maybelline Limited Edition Summer 2013 Color Show Nail Color in Midnight Swim

Two coats, no top coat:
If you look at my cuticles, you can see that this polish tends to stick to the cuticle area and not let go. These photo was taken after cleanup (using a small brush tipped in acetone to remove excess polish). This is not unusual for blues like this, but it's still worth nothing. This polish did not stain my actual nails, but it was really difficult to remove from my cuticle area, even after several attempts. So be warned: paint cleanly and precisely! The formula on this one was wonderful. It's a one-coater in terms of opacity and the consistency is perfection. Not too thin, not too thick. Dry time was very good on the first coat and average on the second coat.
I also wanted to show you a picture of my nails after I removed this polish:
As you can see, this polish really likes to cling to the cuticle area, and it even went underneath my nails at the tips. I had to go over these areas about three times before I could remove most of the lingering polish, but there's still some left as I write this. Ugh.

Revlon Urban and Sally Hansen Thinking of Blue are more on the "blurple" end of the spectrum but closer to true navy blue, whereas Maybelline Midnight Swim and JulieG Tokyo Nights are more of a denim blue. JulieG Tokyo Nights has a TINY bit more purple to it than Maybelline Midnight Swim, but for all practical purposes, I'd say that if you own one of these, you definitely don't need the other.
And by the way, here's a comparison of the permanent shade Sapphire Siren, next to Midnight Swim:

As you can see, Sapphire Siren is more along the lines of a blurple, just like Revlon Urban and Sally Hansen Thinking of Blue. In fact, I'd say that if you have any of those three shades (Sapphire Siren, Urban or Thinking of Blue) you probably don't need the other two.
I hope these comparisons help a bit if you're trying to narrow down your purchases from this collection. Personally, my favorite of the three Maybelline Summer 2013 polishes that I've purchased is Poolside.

It reminds me a lot of opi I saw u saw we saw Warsaw from the euro central collection. I loved that polish which is probably why I love this. Not sure if they're exact dupes but they look close
ReplyDeleteA good tip for removal of stain-y shades like this is to slather your hands & cuticles w thick cream or body butter, or even use oil to coat fingertips. Then remove w acetone. I sometimes do this to also help w the drying effects of pure acetone.
