What's the most you'll pay for a haircut (just the cut--not color, treatments, etc.)?
I've paid $80 for a cut in the past, because I wanted to treat myself to something really special. That cut actually didn't work out so well for me--the stylist had her own ideas about what looked best on me, and she ended up giving me the exact same cut that SHE had. Nightmare! But generally speaking, I'm quite comfortable in the $30-$40 range. Sometimes I'll pay a bit more if the stylist has a lot of experience and keeps current on education and trends, but anything over $50 is pushing it for me personally.
$25-$30 I've also paid much more and my cut is horrible or just the same as my guy who does it for $25 which I love!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, $15 at the most. In fact, I now do my own hair because I was sick and tired of spending the $15, giving the hair stylist the information (including photos!) on the type of cut I wanted, I got 5 inches cut off, bringing my hair up to shoulder level after I told her I only wanted half an inch taken off. She wasn't even sorry, just said there wasn't anything to do about it now.
ReplyDeleteAs a college student on a neverending budget, anything above $20 (before tip) is pushing it for me, heh. I just found a great place that has cuts starting at $10, though, so I'm quite happy with my stylist at the moment!
ReplyDeleteI pay $35 for mine. The most I've paid is $50. Anything more than that is just silly, especially if I don't like the cut.
ReplyDeleteI'll pay about $60. But since I only get my hair cut about five times a year, I don't mind spending a little extra on a quality stylist & cut.
ReplyDeleteOnly? I think I need to cut mine more then! I get mine done twice a year for $20.
DeleteIf we're talking cut (and blow dry) only, I'll go up to $50. With cut, highlight, toning, and blow-dry, it usually runs about $160. I justify it because I only get my hair done twice a year. A little pampering is nice.
ReplyDeleteI live in Iowa and will pay 30-40 if its a nice salon, usually a good Aveda one, but the lady I go to now does it out of her home and I love her! It used to cost me $150 to $175 for cut/color and now it costs me $70 to $80 depending on what I do! Can't beat that! A haircut from her I believe is $15! She is good too, does a lot of continuing education and stays up with trends.
ReplyDeleteI MUCH prefer to cut my own hair.. but I went short (super short)a few years ago and self cutting became impossible. I can't tell you how many stylists I went to before I found one who would do what I asked and actually had the skill to do a good cut. The good news is he works at one of those walk-in discount places and only charges $12. In my experience cutting hair is more of an art than a science.. and the cost is not reflective of the talent. I think the most I've ever paid was $40.. but I do tend to tip well so that adds to the cost.
ReplyDeleteI typically get my hair cut 3 times a year so I don't mind spending a little more on a hairstylist I'm really really comfortable with, her rate is $50 with tax is $57 (I live in Canada) and I give a $10 tip
ReplyDeleteThe salon I go to charges me $60 before tip, but I don't go that often (I haven't been since...February? January?) and she gives me a really good cut, so I'm okay with paying it. Color costs more and I haven't done that in a while, but I want to.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, does anyone know a good salon near Alhambra, CA?
ReplyDelete$15 average, $20-25 maybe if I felt like pampering myself... although I'd rather spend the extra money on other pampering things that feel more lasting. This doesn't make sense, but a haircut doesn't feel like a lasting pamper to me. Maybe it's because I just wash, brush, and done?
ReplyDeleteI recently got a $60 cut that wasn't as great as I'd hoped. The best cut I got was priced around $50. If I prefer to keep my hair one length then a cheap haircut would be fine, but I like layers and I have had bad luck at less expensive salons - the paul mitchell school for example.
ReplyDeleteI usually pay 75-80 but I love my stylist.
ReplyDeleteJust for a hair cut.. wash and dry for me is $35 in a Dominican salon.. my hair is down to my lower waist... so if i add cut or in my case, a trim.. they'd charge $40.
ReplyDeleteMy stylist charges $23 which I am perfectly fine paying. I go every 7 weeks. That includes wash and blow dry!
ReplyDeleteDang I feel cheap lmbo I just pay $15, most I'd go is $25
ReplyDeleteI don't like paying more than $20, particularly since pixie cuts need a lot of maintenance. The longest I really should go is about 3 months between haircuts. If I wait too long, it tends to grow out funny and I look like I belong in a 90's boy band :/
ReplyDeletemy hairstylist is a friend of the family: $10. and I have short hair so I have to get it done often (like every 5-6 weeks). With color (every 12 weeks) it's $40.
ReplyDeleteI pay something around 20
ReplyDeleteI only pay $15, my friend is a stylist and has her own salon in her garage and she is awesome. But if I didn't know her I would pay $25-$30. I just can't bring myself to go somewhere like great clips...lol
ReplyDeleteOh yeah I forgot to mention my friend washes, cuts and styles for $15:)
ReplyDeleteThe one time I went to a "professional" it was an absolutely horrible experience. I didn't get my hair cut after that $60 disaster for three years. It never did recover from the damage she caused with that straightening iron! (she didn't ask, I wasn't facing the mirrors so I couldn't see her, and by the time I realized what she was doing, it was too late) I went home and cried. I almost never get emotional over my hair like that, but it was supposed to be a "treat" because I was going to my parents to get family pictures with all of us there at the same time (for once). My hair looks so fried and lifeless in that picture. My sister made me feel better by wearing a bright pink mohawk :D My mother did much eyerolling lol.
ReplyDeleteThen last week I got an itch for something different, and cut off 13 inches on my own... then went to one of those cheap mall stores to fix it lol. She did a great job, gave me exactly what I asked for! It's a little shorter than I wanted, can't really pull it back right now, but that was my fault ;) But the problem with those places is the stylists come and go so fast you almost never get the same one twice :(
The place I've gone to in Pittsburgh for the past 4 or 5 years (same stylist for those years!) is $30 plus tip. I think that's pretty reasonable for a nice salon.
ReplyDeleteI used to pay $40 and get it cut 3 or 4 times a year. But now my hair is long and straight with long layers - a very easy style to maintain. So I go to Great Clips and pay $15 twice a year. And I color my grays at home myself.
ReplyDelete$15! Seriously no reason to be paying more than $25 for a haircut!! My stylist is great and been going to her for years. Last time I went I got my eyebrows waxed, hair trimmed & full highlights for $70
ReplyDeleteI actually found someone in my neighborhood who charges $16 and I'm pretty happy with her. I'd pay more since I like how she'll just add more layers or make it a smidge shorter in the back if I ask for it, but happily I don't have to! Plus she's a gardener so she'll give me plants and cuttings, which is a nice bonus!
ReplyDeleteI have paid $200 to Peter Ishkhans, (Peter Perfect, Fashion Police), to cut my hair. This was in Beverly Hills, so that is not out of line for him and the area. This was my big Christmas gift one year when I lived in OC, so it was a day trip. He changed my life!!! He designed a style for me that I get compliments on all the time now. I have posted a picture on my blog of he and I together, it was one of my favorite moments ever.
ReplyDeleteFor a once in a lifetime haircut, for me, it is not out of the question to go see your favorite "celebrity" stylist for the star treatment. I mean it is only money, what a great cut can do for your self esteem is priceless! : ) I can recommend Peter unreservedly. He is a compassionate and sweet person who really focuses on you and making you look great.
My last haircut was such a nightmare though, you cannot believe how traumatic it was! A new friend said she did hair, unlicensed, from her home for a living. I trusted her to cut my hair, MISTAKE! She absolutely butchered me, there is a fine line between edgy and old lady with my cut and she took it to old lady. it took five repair trims to make it look decent. I did those myself, I cut my hair better than she did. I hardly trust anyone, but this girl, I can blame myself for this one. How I miss Peter Perfect's hands in my hair! Now I don't have a stylist, and I cut my own hair.
But I don't need to worry about that much anymore, because I am supposedly losing all my hair in six weeks anyway now, I have to have stupid chemotherapy and it doesn't like hair. : ( And I found out it will be growing back very curly. Who knew? You are welcome for this guest post LOL
Am I the only one who doesn't go to a 'salon' ? I just go to hair cuttery. I'm in the process of growing my hair out - or at least attempting to - so I only get trims. No layers. I don't like paying more than $25
ReplyDeleteOne of my oldest friends does hair and she charges me $40, which is a discounted rate. It's pretty affordable vs. other salons in Orange County, and I have a LOT of hair (my hair is down to my mid-back). I've paid more (it's typical down there), and I've paid less. When I paid less I wasn't pleased with the results (at a couple of different salons). Now that I live about an hour away from my friend's salon I'm looking for a new place.
ReplyDeleteI think the most I've paid for a cut is $20, including a tip for the stylist because she did an amazing job! It was my favorite cut out of every single one I've ever had.
ReplyDeleteUsually a friend does mine these days (cut and color) in trade for manicures.
I get mine cut by a friend of my younger sister. She used to work in several salons, including Beauty Brands, but now she cuts hair out of her home. I'm growing out a super short cut, and two weeks ago she charged me $10 to cut the mullet-y looking bottom layer off the back of my hair (she charged me $15 when I first got the cut). She also charged me $10 to cut 5" off of my daughter's extremely thick hair. I try to tip her generously since she gives me such a great deal!
ReplyDeleteI go to get trims at fantastic sams, always on women's day to get it for $16. But I used to go to a lovely girl that never disappointed me, I just remember her being very expensive, and I was still in highschool and getting so much money from my job with nothing to spend it on. I can't even think of affording that anymore, it had to have been at least $50 for a simple cut!
ReplyDelete$15 would be as much as I would pay. My husband pays more for that to get less done, lol. I actually go to very talented ladies and they charge $10 to $15 and do a gorgeous job. Why on earth would I pay more?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, $15-20. I try to find a good deal on Groupon. I don't stick to one stylist.
