The evolution of the Bath & Body Works Fragrance Mist

I've been meaning to write this post for several weeks now, and today I think it's finally time to discuss the recent evolution of Bath & Body Works Fragrance Mist bottles.

I'm not going to go way back into the 90s here, but as for the 2000s, we've seen several different bottle styles from Bath & Body Works. I'm sure I'm missing a few, but here some of the styles that I own, in chronological order from left to right:

L to R: Fresh Vanilla (circa 2005), Chocolate Amber (circa 2007), Leaves (circa 2009), Into The Wild (circa 2011), Pink Chiffon (circa 2012)

My favorite of the five? That would be "B", the bottle for Chocolate Amber from 2007. For me, this was BBW's sturdiest bottle, sturdiest nozzle, and the black cap gave it a little touch of elegance. Also, I love that the cap fits so snugly on the bottle.

I also liked the Into The Wild era bottles that were square and wider on top, tapering down to a more narrow base. These bottles fit easily in the hand, and I think they were a nice departure from BBW's various round bottles.

My lease favorite bottle? Pink Chiffon, which I just purchased a few weeks ago. I don't care for the new bottles because the cap is large, and it falls off quite easily. Also, the nozzle tends to leak if I push down on it too many times in a row.

As for the fragrance of Pink Chiffon, I've said it before but I LOVE this scent. I could bathe in it daily. It's just so sweet and feminine without being cloying or headache inducing.

BBW fans: what's your favorite body mist bottle?

Some of the products featured in this post were given to Nouveau Cheap for previous reviews.

  1. I've never had the B and C bottles but I would say that in terms of design I think the pink chiffon one is the prettiest. I also like the D era bottles as well. Though honestly I've never had problems with any of the bottles when using them.

  2. The bottles I remember the most are A and D. I don't really like the new bottles, the caps come off too easily. Pink Chiffon is one of my favorite scents from BBW! I love how it smells sweet and girly!

  3. Hmmmm, I'm just now coming to the realization that I must not be a BBW fan because the last time I owned a body spray it looked like A!

  4. The only body mists I owned were A. I still have a couple, heh. I haven't bought any since then though.

  5. I like A, B, or C best. The square bottle style was OK as far as not leaking, but the caps always seem to fall off these very easily. I like the way the newest ones look but again, if you pick it up by the cap it is very likely to fall off and then you drop the bottle and risk damaging the sprayer or cracking the bottle. Also, I think the "Fine Fragrance Mist" versions are much weaker with less lasting power than the older "Body Splash" versions and I'm not a fan of the price increase to $14 for these. I am a total B&BW junkie but I find that I am buying fewer of these FFM than I did in the past because of the decrease in staying power and increase in price...

  6. My mom has a suuper old bottle of toasted Hazelnut spray that is the design before A. was even around! It's a typical spray bottle but the outside plastic is all bumpy, made to look like drops of product are all over it. I hate the new bottles because the price has increased $2.50 and now they will never qualify for the bath and body works free product up to $12.50 value with purchase :( The one I tried in store had way less scent than the former bottle, too.

    1. Lol I still have an antiquated bottle of sun ripened raspberry that my boyfriend gave me in the 7th grade in that bUmpy bottle lol!!! That made me rotfl!! I like of like that bottle :-)
I like the B bottle too.. I hate the weird squared off shape of the wild bottle.. It takes up extra space in my perfume basket! Mists should be in skinny bottles!!

  7. I love the newest bottles! I like the simple shape and the new graphics are beautiful.

  8. Was C a really brief phase? Because I don't even remember it!

  9. The travel size ones! Haha, seriously though I buy them only. I get bored with fragrances too quick and jump around from one to the other pretty much daily.. always have 6-8 to choose from. Plus there is always something new coming out so this way I can try them all without a large investment.

  10. I just had to comment because I chuckled when I read your comment about Pink Chiffon being feminine - I totally got that when I smelled in in-store, but the first time I wore it was the only time! I actually told my husband that it smelled almost masculine on me, lol! It came off really earthy and not "pink" at all. Now, I ADORE Sweet on Paris! I just wished their sprays lingered longer; even layered over lotion of the same scent, they only last a few hours on me. And I don't even remember ever seeing bootle style B!

  11. I have only had experience with A, D, and E. I would like E the best if the cap didnt pop off so easily!! C reminds me of the older Victoria Secret Garden bottles. I think the Bath & Body Works Classics scents that are still available online are in bottle A still.

  12. I still have a couple of scents in bottle A - I loved Pink Grapefruit. It was my signature scent for a while and I was so sad to see it discontinued.

  13. WHAT!!! Why did I not know Leaves was once released as a body spray scent? I'm mad obsessed with that scent, it's SO good!!!

  14. I haven't tried most of them except D, which I think just looks cheap!

  15. I actually really like the "D" bottles the best. I don't know why, something about the shape is aesthetically pleasing to me. I haven't bought any since the change because I refuse to pay the price increase and they no longer qualify in the the promotions (buy 3, get 2 free, etc).

  16. I have to say D the the best for me, it does fit in your hand perfectly. Their latest bottle is the worst, very awkward. I love these type of posts where you show items from years ago!!

  17. I like "c" the fact that the bottle tapers down is perfect for aching stiff hands! Thats me! Seems that I became arthritic a tad early, but pain and stiffness has really effected the use of alot of products for me as I literally cannot grip things that are particularly wide.

  18. I know you said that you weren't going way back, but the trigger bottles from a hundred million years ago (err, mid-90s) will always hold a place in my heart. I wish they'd bring them back, as I always kept a bottle of Country Apple in the fridge for a quick refresher.

Out of the five above, I think B is my favorite.

  19. I really, really dislike the new bottles! I like to buy the travel size because they fit better in my purse or in my car's console and then refill with the bigger bottles as needed. The lids in the new bottles don't unscrew so I can't refill my travel sizes with it!! Grrrrr!! I will not be buying anymore of these until they switch to a bottle that I can unscrew again!

  20. D. looks like this victorias secret island bound body mist that i got on clearance back in the last semi annual sale. I got it in 'hibiscus and cupuaçu melon.' it smells soooo good!!

  22. I agree with the B bottle. I have the Sensual Amber and Exotic Coconut in that one. It seems like they change the bottle every single year. What I don't like is how they've changed the scents. The mists are so light, they practically force you to buy other items to layer it with. I haven't bought anything from the company in over a year... In the 90's one spray of body mist lasted all day. :/

  23. Just googled "I hate the new B&BW mist bottle" and ended up here. I have been using B&BW for about 15 years, and I hate the new bottles!! 1, they don't unscrew so you can't "make" your own travel bottles. 2, the caps keep popping off. And 3, it doesn't "mist" very well. It seems very direct and not very diffused. Every other bottle was better than this one. This one is aesthetically more pleasing than the rest, but that's it. I hate the new bottles and there's nothing I can do about it since it doesn't come "out".

    1. I just learned this the hard way, AKA after I bought a small bottle for travel and couldn't get the B&BW fragrance bottle open. It never occurred to me to check that ahead of time! I have several of the old bottles (with screw-off tops) that have just a few drops left each, too. Ugh.

    1. Me too, that's why I came here, to see if it was just me or do these new bottles really not open!! I'm so disgusted, I just bought 3 new ones to refill my travel bottles and I can't! I'm really mad about that. I'm going to end up breaking the tops off, I know it. Oh, my favorite was the square bottle. Easy to hold for sure and top came off. My favorite scent these days is Sweet Dhalia Rush, pink chiffon, Be Enchanted and carried away.

    2. I am absolutely disgusted with these new bottles, because the caps don't come off. I thought it was just me that's why I came here, but I see I was right. I know I'm going to end up breaking them off. I just bought three new bottles of Be enchanted, carried away and Paris amore, so that I could refill my travel bottles. I am so mad! I know I'm going to break these tops off!

  25. I also hate the new bottles!! Yes, they look pretty, but I hate the fact that they are so much bulkier and we're just paying for more plastic!! I love the older ones that you can screw off the top to get every last drop....I want those back!!!

  26. Absolutely!! I wonder if they have any plans to change them? I like to pour some into my little bottles to carry in my purse.

  27. Yep, the new bottles that don't open suck. I hope they design something better. :/
