Spotted at Big Lots: my holy grail foundation!

A HUGE thanks to reader Lore K. for this one! Lore found THIS at her local Big Lots recently:

Physicians Formula Healthy Wear Powder Foundation SPF50 in Natural Beige
(retail: $14.95; Big Lots price: $4)

For those of you new this this blog, you might not know that this is my Holy Grail foundation. I've been wearing it consistently, with much love and devotion, since I reviewed it back in 2009. Powder foundations are my absolute favorite (my oily skin loves them), and I find the Physicians Formula Healthy Wear Powder Foundation SPF50 to perform better for me than even MAC Studio Fix (which is what I was using prior to 2009). I've tried many other drugstore powder foundations over the years (sadly, there aren't that many to try, which I will never understand--I hope that more drugstore brands come out with powder foundations in the future) and NOTHING, and I do mean nothing, compares to this one, for me and my particular skin.

Many of you are probably going to say, "This isn't even available at my local CVS or Rite Aid anymore. Hasn't it been discontinued?" And my answer to that is: NO, it hasn't, but it's not in wide distribution any longer and can only be purchased on the Physicians Formula site, Ulta and a few other places. If you'd like more info about how I know this, click here.

After I received Lore's email, I went to four Big Lots stores here in the San Diego area in search of this product. I found LOTS of other great things I'll be sharing with you soon but, sadly, I haven't found this foundation (yet). But I won't give up until I do! This product retails for $14.95, so even if Big Lots only carries Natural Beige (the shade I tend to favor is Translucent Medium these days), I'll find a way to make Natural Beige work for me! Some of you may recall that I stocked up on this product during the CVS Beauty Clearance Sale from last December, and I still have a few left from that haul but I can always use more--especially at this price!

Thanks SO much, Lore K, for the fantastic scoop. You totally made my day!

I know that many of you love this foundation too, so please let us know if you find it at your local Big Lots (fingers crossed that you will!).

  2. I used this last summer and I loved it! But once I got closer to the end of the pan, it seemed like my face got greasier by the end of the day, so I never repurchased. The lightest shade was great for my super pale skin, so I appreciated that.

  3. Yes G I also found this foundation at my Big Lots. I live in San Bernardino, Ca. I gave it a try last year from your recommendation and fell in LOVE! I also have oily skin. I am the shade natural beige and that is what I found at BL. Hope you hit the jack pot and add to your stock pile! :)

  6. I too love this product so so much. I use Translucent Light, so I would have to assume that Natural Beige would be difficult for me to make work.

    1. Sadly, you're probably right, but a reader below found translucent medium at her BL so there's hope! :)

  7. just make sure you all check the expiration date on these! I bought one the winter CVS beauty clearance sale and it expires may 2012. I only had less than 6 months use out of it =(

    1. The only reason this powder has an expiration date is due to the fact that it has sunscreen in it. Its use as a powder is still fine, it just loses its sunscreen protection. Didn't want anyone to lose use of this (or any other powder), unless the sunscreen was there main use for it.

  10. I think every product that I have bought based on your recommendations has worked for me, except for this one. It looked too cakey on me, but that might just be user error. I just feel naked without my liquid or creme foundation and probably put this on too heavy handed. No worries, though, it wasn't a waste of money. I used this as my finishing powder and love that it gives me some extra coverage and SPF as well.

  12. Hi G! is a honor have my picture up there, made my day!!! actually my local Big Lots has other shades avaliable, fair (a lot of those!!!), creamy natural (good amount), translucent medium (good amount) and medium Beige (only 6!!!! I bought 4 of them) and also they had Healthy Wear Bronzer on two shades, I think it was medium and dark, not sure. keep checking your local BL they get trucks every week and always they try to put everything out the same week, sometimes they re-stock overnight but depends on the store. Good luck and thansk again!!!

    1. You are SO sweet to say that! But I should be thanking YOU, of course, for thinking of me and remembering this is my favorite. I can't tell you how much that means to me! And THANK YOU for letting us know you found ALL shades at your BL. That is SO exciting!!! :) xo

  13. Argh, if only there were Big Lots near me! I don't use this as foundation (skin wayyyy too dry) but I use it to set my sunscreen and even as setting/dusting powder I've already gone through a couple and only have one left. Trekked out to the distant CVS today hoping to get that $7 off PF coupon today, but no luck, even scanning card multiple times. I got the blue compact Mineral Wear powder in the last CVS PF deal and it's fine, but just not the same! (and its idea of "translucent" is clearly much darker than the Healthy Wear version.)
