I've been out of the house all day and just got home, so I figured I still had time to post the Wednesday Question while it's still technically Wednesday! Here we go:
What factors motivate you to wear a particular shade of eyeshadow? Do you like to match your shadow to your clothes, skintone, mood, situation or something else?
Most of the time I match my eyeshadow to the situation. If I know I'll just be running errands all day, I'll probably stick to a taupe, brown, or some other basic earthtone shade. A night on the town and I'm more inclined to do a smoky eye and wear deeper, darker shades. I very rarely match my eyeshadow to my clothes, but I do try to make sure the colors I'm wearing on my eyes and face don't clash with my clothes (I don't wear olive green eyeshadow if I know I'm wearing a red top, etc.).
I tend to go by my mood and/or clothing
ReplyDeleteOk so this is a great tip because I love eyeshadow (my favorite part of make-up), but I often wonder if I'm wearing the right colors. I do avoid clashing, but sometimes I;m afraid to try the more risky colors. Any advice on that?
ReplyDeleteGoing to Rite Aid tomorrow!! I'm sure they'll b as good as the higher end brands.
ReplyDeleteMy everyday color is brown because of its simplicity and quick/easiness of applying since I'm always on-the-go. I'll add some shimmery gold to it if I'm feeling happy :)
ReplyDeleteEither mood or clothes, but keeping the situation I am dressing for a mind. I will not wear a full blown smokey eye to work even if I feel like it, maybe a dark taupe lid or I will find some level of compromise.
ReplyDeleteI wear shimmery neutrals almost always- gold, bronze, copper, or rose gold if I'm wearing warm colors and shimmery taupe if I'm wearing cooler colors.
ReplyDeleteI coordinate my shadow color with my clothing (as well as lip and cheek color) not to match but to "get along with", and choose tone/contrast of the color based on my expected activity of the day. So if I am wearing a bright orange top, and I expect to be home or running some errands, I may choose a peach shadow, but if I will be out at night or at an event, I may choose a brighter/darker color perhaps with a darker smoky accent.
ReplyDeleteI usually only wear it for a big night out, then I do a smoky eye in either silvers or blues... Every once in a great while I may put some on if perhaps I am having a bad hair day in hopes of distracting from the hair LOL
ReplyDeleteI go by my mood. somedays quick and easy, some days full on glam mode to pick up the kids. LOL
ReplyDeleteI actually spend more time thinking about my eye look than the clothes I actually wear- in fact, as I'm falling asleep, I like to think about the color combination I'm going to wear the next day (I know, super weird but it's relaxing!). I never match eyeshadow to what I'm wearing because 1) I so rarely wear color on my eyes and 2) I think it looks tacky (sorry!). It mostly depends on my mood/feeling- for example, I've been sick with a cold, and yesterday I wore darker colors that made me look worse/sicker. Today I opted for a lighter look (UD Virgin, Naked and Toasted) and that looks better on my sick-looking eyes.
ReplyDeleteOof, long answer, but fun to think about!
I typically stick to neutrals, but when I do wear color, I tend to opt for pinks and purples, which seem to make my brown eyes appear a bit more gold.
ReplyDeleteAt work I do a neutral eye look (champagne on lid with a light brown color in the crease) but when I go out I'll do a full blown gray / black smoky eye.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I go with my clothes, but mostly my mood.
ReplyDeleteWhere I am going really; I don't wear eyeshadow on a daily basis, so if I do it's either to try out a product or if I'm going to a party or event where I want to look a little done-up
ReplyDeleteMood determines how much makeup I wear. I do "match" to what I'm wearing, or rather make sure that the eye colors coordinate with what I'm wearing and don't clash. I don't do matchy-matchy.
