A few weeks ago, I tweeted something along the lines of, "I predict magnetic polishes will be the crackles of 2012." I know I'm not the only who feels this way, but I just didn't think it would happen so soon.
It seems that lots of major brands are coming out with magnetic polishes these days (the first I ever saw was from Lancome a few years ago). Nails Inc, Essence, Color Club, Icing and China Glaze have all come out with magnetic polishes, and now it looks like the wave has hit the drugstore!
The biggest complaint I hear about magnetic polishes is that they cost more than regular polishes, so I kind of freaked out when I spotted a new line of magnetic polishes at Rite Aid today from Pretty Woman called Magentix (surprisingly, many other brands have chosen to call their magnetic polish lines Magnetix as well). And guess what? They only cost $7.99. Whoo hoo!
My darned cell phone is still wonky, so I couldn't take a pic of the display. However, I believe there were about eight shades ranging from deep, vampy purple to silver, teal, navy blue, magenta and this little lovely:
Pretty Woman Magnetix Nail Polish
(retail: $7.99 at Rite Aid, 0.34 oz)
I will do a full tutorial and review of this polish ASAP. But until then, have you spotted this new line at any of the drugstores in your area? Thoughts?
Ooo how exciting! Though $8 for the drugstore version seems pretty steep!
ReplyDeleteI'll be looking forward to your review,G. Meanwhile, I find it amusing that all of the companies you mentioned are calling their lines Magnetix.Shouldn't someone have trademarked that?
ReplyDeleteI am so stopping at rite aid tomorrow
ReplyDeletehi! I´m a new reader :)
ReplyDeleteI have three Essence Magnetics, which i don´t know if are available in US (I live in France until March)... and I couldn´t make them work! I think the magnet is really bad, So I´m looking forward to your review!
Waiting super impatiently for your review LOL! Thanks so much for the heads up. I can't wait to jam over to Rite Aid tomorrow. WOO HOO!
ReplyDeleteG. RITE AID CLEARANCE ALERT: wasn't sure where to put this cuz i'm new, but I figured since this post had to do with rite aid, i'd just do it here. Wet-N-Wild is having a major clearance @ Rite Aid that's 75% off, includes the Eyeshadow Single : Brulee/Creme brulee Eyeshadow Palette in Vanity. Lots of the Matte Lipsticks I got 5 shades 904B(don't know the name took the shrink wrap off already), 913C Sandstorm, 912C In the flesh, 917B Cinnamon, 915B Spiked With Rum plus some other darker colors I didn't pick up. Megalast Nail Polishes in 212B Heatwave. 211A Club Havana, 210B Tropicalia plus other darker shades I believe a really dark purple. AND NYC is also having a clearance I got the Blushable Creme Stick 649U Berry New Yorker there were lots of other stuff come NYC as well, but I wasn't really excited enough to get any. The wet n wild lippies cost me .49 each, so did the polishes and single shadow, and I believe the palette was only 1.25. Sorry if this was all over the place just wanted to let you know.
ReplyDeleteAre the magnetic polishes hard to remove? I want to try these!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link, G. Icing with the BOGO1/2 promo would come out to be cheaper than this brand even, but it's nice that they offer 2 magnets with each bottle
ReplyDeleteI literally JUST got back from Rite Aid getting these. I got the light silver, blue, green, and magenta. I took some crappy cell phone pics of the display but I don't know if they're fit for posting. I'm about to do swatches of them right now.
ReplyDeleteI went to Icing and Claire's looking for magnetics earlier this week, but neither of them had the blue one, which was the one I really wanted. I like that the Rite Aid ones come in so many different colors and that each one comes with two magnets. Can't wait to try these out!
You've piqued my curiosity... and possibly inspired a lemming. :D Can't wait to see the swatches!
ReplyDeleteI've seen this one the other day but I hesitated sine it's $8. I would probably get it when it goes BOG1/2off.... hopefully.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to find these! I am little worried about that bottle shape though ... is it slanty, or am I seeing things?!?
ReplyDeleteMichelle87, post that great tip here:

I got one last night! I got the cranberry/pink one...maybe the magenta one you referred to. I tested it on paper...it worked amazingly well. If it will work on a piece of paper, I'm betting it will look fantastic on the nail! To get a polish & TWO magnets for $7.99 is crazy!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm uploading a video on my channel today showing the 1 I got & how it worked on paper! My channel on YT is the same name.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I tried all of mine and they are awesome, except for the silver and gunmetal ones. Those didn't give off much of a design at all. But the rest work very well.
ReplyDeleteMy faves are the blue, pink, and green. The blue and pink are identical to the Icing ones, and the green one is great too. I think I'm going to wear the green as my mani tomorrow. I love these! :)
I just bought mine and swatched it and I have to say I'm disappointed.... I don't know if I'm using the magnet incorrectly or something. I
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your review!
I haven't spotted these yet but they look very intriguing! Anxiously awaiting your review/tutorial!
ReplyDeleteI purchased some magnetic nail polish from ebay. I noticed that if you have a thick coat of nail polish and hold the magnet longer than it is mentioned in the instructions gives a better effect.
ReplyDeleteMara: I actually linked to my original post about the Essence magentics--they ARE available in the US, but I never got to try them. So sad to hear they didn't work for you. :(
ReplyDeletemichelle: as razberiswirl said in her comment (thanks for that, razberiswirl!) there's a place for your great tips on the upper menu bar of this blog called "YOU TELL ME". Thanks!!
Kathy: Nope, just like regular polishes!
razberiswirl: Nope, you're not wrong. They're definitely asymmetrical!
bobbysgeel: Thanks, hun. Can' wait to see what you think when you try them on your nails!
Tiffany: thanks SO much for the very helpful tip!! xo
Cassidy: Did you get either of the shades that Tiffany mentioned in her comment above? I wonder if that's why they didn't work. If not, try two coats and make the second coat thicker. Also, hold each nail to the magnet for 30 seconds and make sure your nail is still very wet first. hope that helps!
iseela: Aaaah, I wish I would have seen your comment before I tested these out today. As you'll see in my review, I TOTALLY agree with you that a thicker coat works much better, as does holding it to the magnet for a longer period of time. thanks so much! :)
I picked up one from "Nabi" at Walgreen's a couple days ago and was so excited to try it but I couldn't get it to work. It said to use while polish was wet but nothing happened. I tried on my thumbail as it was almost dry and got like two little lines but that was all I got, nothing else on any finger :/
ReplyDeleteIt was the sparkly blue-based purple. Maybe it was just that color or a bad bottle or something?
Me Too!! I cannot get the Nabi brand to work either. And I, unfortunately, bought 6 of them. I thought I was doing something wrong, so I watched tutorials, and it's really not that deep...but none of them work. All it does is create a little lump on your nail. It looks like a mess up more than anything...Anyone have any luck with the Nabi brand?
DeleteI've seen it at my Rite Aid and not sure if I'm ready to spend the $7.99 for it yet. Maybe that's why it's plenty on the shelf.
