The Wednesday Question

Boy, the holiday weekend really threw me off! I almost forgot it was Wednesday and you know what that means! Here's this week's question:

Have you ever purchased a drugstore product based on hype and then found it didn't work for you?

Yes! More than I care to list, actually. But the one that always sticks in my mind is Maybelline Full 'n Soft Mascara. Millions of women swear by this mascara but, when I finally tried it, it was a total disaster for my particular lashes. Oh how I wish it worked as well for me as it does for so many other people!

  1. For me it was Cover Girl Lash Blast. For my lashes, it was a big ol' fail. :(

  3. Wow! The first comment & it's about boob stickers!

I bought the "Adhesive Bra" from Lingerie Solutions to wear w/a backless dress. They were unsticking all evening until I was certain one would pop off & land on the floor. What do those strapless models do??! :-)

  4. I remember that I purchased Revlon Colorstay foundation a few years back-which I know many swear by. I initially really liked it, but later on, I started realizing that it felt a bit heavy on my face. The coverage was phenomenal for it being a drugstore foundation. But eventually, it just wasn't for me. Luckily, I had much better luck with Revlon Photoready foundation. It is my current HG drugstore foundation. :)

  5. I couldn't wait to get my hands on Milani Liquif'eye. It would NOT stay put, in fact it ran worse than any liner I have ever tried. It also made my eyes water terribly.

  6. Garnier eye serum with the rollerball application. Didnt depuff or smooth fine lines...nothing at all AND I paid full price!

  7. YES! I just bought a bottle of the new Infusium sulfate-free shampoo for color-treated hair, because I've been reading everywhere that it's amazing. Luckily it was on sale, because my hair feels gross! It feels gummy and greasy even right after washing. Blehhhh.... I'll keep my sulfates, thank you very much.

  8. CoverGirl LashBlast. Actually, lots of products but that one sticks out the most for me. Mostly it's really hyped mascaras, because I have a huge mascara fetish - it's my most loved product aside from polish, haha!

  9. Same here with Full n' Soft! I wore it for an hour, looked in the mirror, and omg I had two dark rings under my eyes...smudged like CRAZY on me. My biggest drugstore disappointment was probably the Revlon lipstick in Nude Attitude. This was before I knew that Makeup Alley existed, and I just saw a couple of gurus raving about it. Flaky mess on my lips...I still can't get it to work no matter how much I exfoliate beforehand.

  10. Organix sulphate free shampoo. I kept reading about how everyone was loving it. Based on all the raves, against my better judgement I bought the shampoo and conditioner in the coconut based on how utterly delicious it smelled.

Gah! Big mistake! Huge! I should have remembered that my hair hates sulphate free shampoo. My poor tresses looked and felt like a haystack after just one use. They went back, the next day.

  11. Revlon colorstay foundation. It made me break out terribly and felt so heavy on my skin :/ It did give great coverage but the smell was awful and I felt like I had a weight on my face. I even repurchased it based on the super hype thinking I might have gotten a bad bottle but had the same breakouts and experience :(

  12. The new Loreal sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair. Of course I want my color to last longer but gah, this stuff was stinky/perfumey and my hair felt dry like straw. It's stashed under the sink and I went back to Fredric Fekkai/Pantene.

My hair guru was quite impressed with how strong my deep red color was after 7 weeks. My secret? Don't wash every day and use Suave dry shampoo as needed. He gasped at the Suave!

  13. Ugh, yes! I watch too much YouTube...those ladies are persuasive!

  14. L'oreal Voluminous Mascara. A lot of women swear by it. It wasn't even a volumizing mascara until 2 weeks in of using it and it transfers like crazy, even on my dry skin.

  15. garnier moisture rescue gel cream. its a really cooling feeling, which i loved. but it totally dried my skin T_T i gave it to my mom (she has oily skin, while i have dry skin)

  16. Oh no, I'm one of those adorers of Full 'n Soft...I wish it worked on everybody the way it does for me. But Revlon Colorstay foundation is the one item I want to love but its terrible for me. It looks great but I'm guaranteed a few breakouts by the next morning so its not worth it to me :(

  17. I was soo excited to try the Shea Organics deep treatment masque that they sell at Walgreens now.. I waited a couple months to get it, until my other deep treatment ran out. Well I got it a couple weeks ago and I am sorry to say it is terrible! I am soo disappointed about this. The only good thing I can say about it is that the smell of it is intoxicating. It did NOTHING for my fine, thin hair. It feels like it has absolutley NO conditioning properties. When I use a deep treatment I want my hair to feel quenched and slippery. When I used this I felt neither of those. This was worse than the Organics Argan Oil treatment I bought and returned the next day!!

Ive decided to just stick to Renpure Organics. I am amazed at how wonderful their prodicts are!! Their color protecting shampoo is awesome!!!

  18. Maybelline Great Lash! It was one of my first mascaras in HS and it actually wasn't that great then (late 80's). I got older and kept seeing it touted as "the best" in Allure, etc. and bought it again. Let's just say I realized magazines editors are sometimes full of it. It did nothing for my lashes (no volume, definition, length--NOTHING). It's one of the only things I don't like from the brand.

  19. Oh, thank you Kelli Rae, for that Renpure endorsement! I just picked up the moisturizing shampoo/conditioner and I'm happy someone likes it. I haven't tried it yet. However, it got me $10.00 in Up Rewards at Rite Aid, making them free!

  20. YES! I hate it when I buy something so hyped up and then I hate it!
For me, it was the Sally Girl eyeshadows. The baked ones are great, so I got 3 of the regular ones. "Sage" had a huge crack in it, "Lilac" crumbled all over my makeup drawer, and "Caramel" is the only one I have left-but I hate it. They are WAY to blendable, the color just disapperes and they crumble to easily.

  21. Mine was the Revlon Colorstay foundation. It broke me out like crazy and like a trooper I used it for about two weeks. Even when I used an oil cleanser then a regular cleanser to remove traces of the foundation, I still broke out. Another DS item is Wet n' Wild Green Genie trio or something like that. It looked chalky against my skintone. Another is the L'Oreal lipsticks, I forget which line. All I remember is that it was drying. Also forgot to mention the L'Oreal HIP paints or something that comes in a paint tube and you can use it as a eyeshadow primer. My shadows still creased and it stung my eyes.

  22. Elf HD Powder. It gets great reviews on MUA, but it doesn't do anything for my skin except make it feel super slick.

  23. It was one of Revlons lip glosses that everyone on YT raves about. Twenty minutes after applying I have shimmery glitter all over my face.

  24. Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in Peach Satin was just a glitter bomb failure to me. Also, MAC's lipstick in Lollipop Lovin turned out just a weird orange on me, and I CANNOT apply Prestige's liquid eyeliner for my life hahahha!

  25. I can't believe that you don't like this mascara! I does WONDERS for my lashes. Oh well, everyone has different lashes and different mascaras that work for them. :)
