The Wednesday Question

This week's question deals with skincare--I hope you'll take a minute to answer in the comments!

What's your favorite affordable daytime moisturizer, and why?

(If you could also leave your skin type in your response, I think that would be very helpful to others!)

Right now I'm testing L'Oreal Youth Code Day Lotion SPF30 and I have to say, it's quickly becoming my favorite for my oily skin, but I'll have to give it a few more weeks for a final verdict. Before that, I was using CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion but since that doesn't contain SPF, I found myself often skipping my sunscreen step in my daily routine, because my skin is so oily and sunscreen tends to add to the oil. I really prefer SPF in my moisturizer (in addition to the SPF in my foundation) so while I love CeraVe, Youth Code seems a better option for me (so far). The good thing is that CeraVe doubles as a body moisturizer, so since the  bottle is large, it's wonderful in that capacity as well.

  1. I use The Body Shop's Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream. I have oily skin and this product does a fantastic job of moisturizing and mattifying my skin throughout the whole day.

  3. My skin is super dry, it's winter and I go to work in the dark and never see the sun anyway, so I use CeraVe cream w/a drop or two of grapeseed oil during the day. When it lightens up outside, I'll switch to Eucerin anti redness day formula.

  4. I use a lotion called Glaxal Base. It is AMAZING! My best friends daughter had HORRIBLE dry cracking skin when she was a newborn/infant..nothing and i do mean nothing would work. No amount of prescription creams were working. After about 30 lotions/creams they tried Glaxal base and it worked! I had really dry flaky skin so I tried it. AMAZING! It comes in a tube and thats the lotion or it comes in a Jar and thats the cream. The lotion is SOOOO lightweight but super moisturizing and the cream is thick and great when going to bed! This lotion has no junky stuff added to it..no scents nothing. Its amazing. The lotion tube is huge and cost about 7-10$ and the tube is huge and will last a lifetime and is about 12-15$. I get it at costco. I havent seen it much in the US but in Canada is it widely available. Its incredible..whew sorry this was long, I just really love this lotion!

  5. My skin is combo/sensitive & lately, I am loving Garnier Moisture Rescue gel cream. It's lightweight (no SPF in the gel, but there is in the lotion, I don't mind b/c spfs can sting my skin) and my face feels nice, not overly oily or greasy. I think it's probably better for warmer months because of the cooling sensation but I like it for the winter as well. Although, it has been a while since I used the Clinique Moisture Surge Extra, I think the Garnier may be a good substitute (not exact match though).

  6. My skin has been super dry this winter, until I switched to Jason Natural's Daily Facial Cream (Fragrance Free, 4.5 oz). It's only about $10 for a big bottle (about 4 times as much as most companies). My skin is so smooth and nice now.

  7. i have 2, one serves as a serum and the other as my moisturizer/spf. I use Aloe Life skin Gel 99% Organic Aloe gel with vit E and seaweed as a serum and Avon clearskin Professional Oil free Lotion spf 15 as moisturizer. They work wonders fro my oily acne prone sensitive skin =D

  8. I have dry skin. I use vitamin e oil before miosturizer day and night. For moisturizer I love the Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Sensitive Skin! Unfortunately, it doesn't contain SPF so I use a sunscreen for the face (can't remember the name) in a stick before the moisturizer.

  9. I'm currently mixing up a RoC moisturizer with sunscreen and another one that I got from China last summer. I'm not particularly in love with the RoC... It's a little dry for me, but it's pretty mattifying. x.x I do like the Chinese moisturizer a lot, but it's, you know, only available in China, LOL.

So yeah, I'm still looking. ):

  10. i definitely have fallen in love Clean and Clears. Soft Moisturizer. It is amazing! It feels so light and i can tell that its not clogging my pores!

  11. I use Aveeno's Ultra Calming Moisturizer with Spf 15. I have normal to dry skin, more dry than normal because I have dry patches. But this moisturizer has helped with my dry patches. I apply it before my makeup and after I cleanse my face at night, I apply it to my dry patches so they can heal overnight. Works great. :)

  12. My skin is usually dry-combination. Winter does bad things though. :(

I adore Clinique's dramatically different moisturizing gel... I tried the regular, but it made my face break out. It always seemed too expensive to me at $24 (I think?), but I've been on the same bottle for about 2 months now and it's only half empty. And I waited until Clinique bonus time to buy it, as I will in the future. :)

  13. Does Avon count even though it's not from a drugstore? I have grown up with the Anew line. If I catch it on a good sale, it isn't all that expensive, compared to a Lancome or Clinique.

I have newly discovered Garnier skincare too. A day creme has to keep my forehead and cheeks from feeling tight and dry.

  14. My skin is combo/oily, and I love the Enrich SPF 15 moisturizer from Trader Joe's, of all places! I used up an entire bottle over the course of a year and it never let me down, in all seasons, under all types of makeup.

  15. My skin is super dry (and acne-prone.... go figure!), so I NEED something really moisturizing but that won't clog up my skin. I love Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream (comes in a tube or a huge tub) because it's super thick, but doesn't make me break out. I use it day and night. For sunscreen, I put on Ocean Potion's Face SPF 45 in a little jar over my moisturizer (it's great! and $3!). SPF in my actual moisturizer breaks me out :S.

  16. I also use Cetaphil (the lotion version). I've tried everything from La Mer on down, but this is by far the best for my combination skin, which is a bit on the sensitive side. I used to get breakouts every month, but not anymore! Another secret that has put an end to my monthly breakouts -- treat any emerging problems with neosporin cream.

  17. mark For Goodness Face Antioxidant SPF 30 is my favorite daytime moisturizer. I've been using it for over a year (when I'm not testing out new products) and I just love it. I have sensitive combination skin. I have a slightly oily t-zone.

  18. I have dry skin and I need spf as well! I really like Olay Complete Agless Skin Renewing UV Lotion SPF 20. I also LOVE the RX suncare sold exclusively at Rite Aid. The faces lotion has a lot of antioxidants in it and I love to use it when I need more SPF.

  19. Sadly, the Youth Code moisturizer broke me out terribly, and I tried it on two different occasions.

I have used Clinique Superdefense for oily skin and so far haven't found a DS one I like as well.

  20. Physitians formula spf50 tinted moistuizer. I bought it for the spf but I like that its tinted because my face is very red and this helps cover it. If I had better skin I could skip foundation. It also does a pretty good job moistuizing.

  21. I love Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Sensitive Skin Lotion for my super combination skin... It has SPF 15, leaves my dry parts moisturized, and my oily parts not greasy, and it doesn't break me out... plus it's only 11 bucks.

  22. I have pretty dry skin and an oily forehead. I have two faves: CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion and Pond's Dry Skin Cream. I have pretty sensitive skin, so I love that these are both really basic and gentle, but uber moisturizing.

  23. My favorite inexpensive moisturizer is Lacura, available only at Aldi grocery stores. They are under $4 a jar and is really awesome. Only downside is that they don't have SPF.

  25. This is going to seem very strange! But I have EXTREMELY dry skin, I live in WA it's fairly cold winters and even summers at times! At night I use Vaseline Cocoa Butter (yes the greasy stuff that comes in the tubs). It works amazingly, I do have to wash my pillow cases more often, but I don't mind at all!!

I, like most people was happy with a face cleanser, then for some reason decided to change!! And now my dry skin is worse than ever so I'm stuck using a day time moisturizer. For day time use, I haven't found a drugstore moisturizer strong enough to hide the dry patches, so at the moment I'm using a cream from MAC.

Next sale I see I'm going back to my HG Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser!! Never again will I stray!

  26. Eucerin Everyday Protection SPF 30. Oily/combo skin, drier in the winter. On some very overcast winter days I'll use CeraVe.

  27. My favourite cheapo moisturiser is the original Olay - the pink one that used to come in a glass bottle many years ago and was called Oil of Ulan. I've been using it on and off for about 25 years! It's great for hot weather when you want something very light (though it doesn't have sunscreen), and it has a lovely floral scent that makes me nostalgic for my mispent youth. *sniff*

(My skin is normal/combo - normal cheeks, slightly oily t-zone.)

  28. Kim, I hear that Lacura has a really nice foundation and super cheap, like $3. I don't have an Aldi near me, but my sister has one down the street from her house. I want to pick that up next time I visit her.

I'm using Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer SPF 15. I wish I had read the bottle more carefully since I now know it comes in higher spf and would have chosen that instead. But I do like this moisturizer, and especially like the smoothness and slip, you can tell it has silicons in it. I skip primer and just count on this, and it seems to do just fine.

  29. I'm currently using Olay Moisturizing Lotion, which works pretty well. I think my favourite ever would be The Body Shop's Vitamin E Moisturizer, though.

  30. I've got dry skin that breaks out to things really easily. I have tried so many moisturizers and cannot for the life of me find one that doesn't break me out :(

  31. I used Mary Kay for a long time, but switched back to Olay Complete SPF15 just for convenience sake because I didn't want to order something and wait for it. It seems to be enough for me as long as I exfoliate regularly, but in the last couple of years I've added an eye cream as well because I suddenly noticed lots of LINES in that area. :)

  32. i have aging skin so i use Alpha Hydrox AHA souffle. I get this at Drugstore.com. It is the only thing that firms and brightens and reduces lines that is affordable. For extra moisture in the a.m. I use Josie Maran Argan Oil which is so wonderful!

  33. For my sensitive combination skin, I adore Everyday Protection Face Lotion SPF 30. It's so light, and doesn't break me out!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I use the Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture spf 35. It moisturizes my skin for the day and has a good amount of spf since I live at a high elevation.

  35. My mother used to always rave about St.Ives products. I was in need of something inexpensive recently, and picked up something called St.Ives Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin facial moisturizer. I use it at night, and in the morning. It drenches my skin with moisturizer.

  36. I use Clean&Clear oil-free pore perfecting moisturizer. It has SPF 15, and it's nice and lightweight :) I have oily skin and it doesn't make me any oiler than I already get throughout the day, which is really all I can ask for!
