Follow-up Friday

Wow! It has been waaaay too long since I've done a Follow-up Friday post! But I have recently found a new appreciation for a product that I previously gave a not-so-stellar review, so I'm here to follow up and let you know things have changed!

Back in the beginning of October, I posted this review, where I showed you how this concealer didn't really work for me in terms of concealing my under-eye darkness. Well, it still doesn't do a great job with my under-eye darkness, but when my lovely readers AffordableBeauty and Carolanne both left comments on my original post indicating that they use this concealer on other areas of their face with great success, I HAD to give it a try!

And guess what? It ROCKS! Well, I should say it rocks for every area of my face aside from under my eyes (for under my eyes, I still swear by Maybelline SuperStay). When AffordableBeauty said this product worked well for concealing the redness on her cheeks, I thought, "Wait. I have redness on my cheeks too--why didn't I try it for that?" I guess that when I'm testing concealers, I always go for the under-eye area first. If a product fails me there, I don't generally bother with trying it on another part of my face. BIG MISTAKE.

I LOVE this concealer for evening redness and concealing old acne scars on my face. I mean, I LOOOOVE it. It just glides on so smoothly, and it's literally effortless to apply with my fingers. A few quick swipes on my old acne scars and on the redness on my cheeks and I'm ready to apply my foundation is two seconds flat.

Now, I also listened to many of you who said you found this concealer drying. I would have to agree with you--it's probably not the best concealer for those of you with dry skin. But on my oil-slick-prone skin? It's a champ! Heck, it practically functions as a primer AND a concealer, and I find when I layer it with my beloved Physicians Formula Healthy Wear powder foundation, my face stays put for hours and hours with no need for touch-ups.

So if you have this concealer and it let you down in the under-eye department, try it on the rest of you face and see how it goes! And if you don't already own it, but you're searching for a good face concealer that applies quickly and really helps even out redness, I say give this one a shot. It's my new favorite product that I literally look forward to applying in the morning (and that means a lot since, well, who looks forward to applying their concealer, right?).

A huge thanks to Carolanne and AffordableBeauty for leaving those extremely helpful comments on my original post. And I also want to thank anyone who has ever left a comment on one of my reviews--you have no idea how much your insights and opinions help not just me, but all of us. One little comment or suggestion can help us to see a product in a completely different light! This is exactly what happened with Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer for me. It truly went from a zero to a hero!

  1. ohhh i have dark circles which are rivaled by those only of the humble raccoon, so i was also dissapointed with this as an eye concealer. i'm gonna try it elsewhere now!

  3. I've tested this many times in store and I don't like the silicone-slick feel to it but I like the airy bounce it has.
I might give this a try as I have a lot of redness on my cheeks and around the nose. I hate having problematic skin :(

  4. Yay! So glad you found my comment helpful! And ever gladder (is that a word, lol) that it actually works for you! I agree, for oily-skinned gals like you and me, this concealer stays put really well! I actually JUST finished a whole tub last week. A WHOLE TUB! I never finish anything, so this was quite the beauty milestone for me. Of course, I immediately went out and got another =X

  5. I have had the very same experience with this concealer. Does not really work for undereye circles, but totally covers other areas. I have really bad hyperpigmentation, redness, scarring, the works really, from acne and I really get good results from this (and I feel like I've tried everything out of desperation, lol!). I'm now averaging about one container a month! :P

  6. I wonder if this could be used as an eyeshadow primer?

  7. LOVE your blog, and I love this concealer. I'm glad you've changed your mind, and I love this follow up friday business. I actually really like this for my under eye circles, and man i LOVEEEE its texture.

Keep up the good work, and you know, I agree this is your blog and you should write what you want to write. I'll keep reading regardless of the price range of the products you review. Plus I think it's important to get a comparison of higher end and lower end products- exactly what do you get with the $14 price tag?

  8. Kelly, I tried using this product as an eyeshadow primer ala UDPP, TFSI but it didn't work. CREASED! Have you tried L'Oreal De-Crease? It's just as good as UDPP. Also, I responded to G's tirant about my comment on her blog about the Mad Men nail polish brouhaha, but she deleted my post. Signed, Rosanne

  9. I love this concealer when I have acne. I usually don't wear concealer on my face, but I pull this one out when I have a break out. I agree that it's purpose is mostly for face concealing.
@Kelly I recommend Almay Bright eyes eye base +concealer to prime your lids; I did a post testing it against UDPP and their performance matched.

  11. theetinygoat: You should totally try it on the rest of your face, hun! Let me know how it goes? :)

Kelly: As long as you don't have dry skin, I think you might really like this for concealing redness! Keep me posted? Thanks!

Ashley: See, I don't get a slick feeling from this when I apply it to my face. If anything, it dries down to the opposite of slick for me! haha. :)

Carolanne: Thank you again for that original comment! I can't tell you how helpful that was!! And actually, I'm over halfway through my tub, so it looks like I'll be buying another soon too! Crossing my fingers for another 40% off Maybelline sale soon. ;)

cait: Yay!! I'm so glad you've had the exact same experience with this product! And I can totally see how you could go through one a month--I think I'll be right there with ya on that one. ;)

Kelly: Hum...I'm not sure, but I'll give it a shot and report back!

shmemi: Awwww, thank you so much for that, honey. That really means a lot to me. xo

Roseanne: Um, nice try! Like I mentioned in the other post, your comment got automatically sent to blogger's spam file due to the curse word in your comment. I manually went into my spam folder and published it a few minutes ago. Not trying to delete or hide a thing, but thanks!

PCS: Wow, so it works for you too, even with your dry skin? That's great!! :) And thanks for the reminder about that Almay eye base--I keep forgetting to pick that up but I've been thinking about it ever since your review. :)

AffordableBeauty: OMG, it *totally* helped! Are you kidding me? It was a serious game-changer for me, and I could not be more thankful! :)

  12. I agree with you, its def not for under eyes for me either. I have dry under eyes and this def makes it so much worse, but for the face it is pretty amazing. I never conceal on my face, mainly because my redness is usually covered by foundation and I am just plain lazy. Great review! (:

  13. yes, on my face it is fine with dry skin! It's astounding! Time is fleeting... oh wait, it's not halloween anymore. Anyway, def let me know what you think of the eye base, I would love to see a review!

  14. I use Dream Mousse concealer to cover blemishes..and the upper lip wax burn I am sporting at the moment due to a botched wax job. >_< It's a great concealer for fixing the little thing, but I agree that it is not a good undereye concealer. I stick to Benefit Erase Paste for under my eyes since it brightens the eye while covering circles and makes me look less dead. :)

  15. After reading an amazing review on a different blog, i bought this concealer and it does a pretty ok job on my DARK circles. It may be an undertone thing. Im NC 43 and use this in Latte (im pretty sure thats the name, its dark 1) and the only thing i dont like about it is actually using it. Until i tried a small concealer brush i would either pick up too much or too little product to use it..not my holy grail but i like it enough to use it up

  16. I've heard it's good for acne scars, going to try it soon :)
