When I first saw Revlon's new vintage-inspired Fire & Ice collection (click here for pics of the display), I was pretty sure I wanted to purchase the lip color Fire & Ice. This is the first lip color ever created by Revlon and it would be wonderful to have with the vintage logo (thanks to my lovely readers eauMG and Clementine for confirming that Fire & Ice is actually available in the core collection, only without the retro logo). But then I saw Demure (a new shade) and well, it had to be mine. So I picked it up despite the fact that it wasn't on sale (Me? Buying something not on sale? Hard to believe, right?).
I love that Revlon used their retro logo for this collection.
In fact, I love it so much, I wish this was a permanent change!
I just can't think of a single thing I don't like about this lip color. I love the logo, the color and even the name. Is there a more fitting name for a soft, peachy-nude, vintage-inspired shade than Demure? It feels like the kind of lipstick that the "good girl" would wear in a 1950s dime store romance novel.
According to the label on the tube, Demure is a classified as a creme. This surprised me since it looks pretty shimmery in the tube:
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Demure (retail: around $7.99)
But much to my delight, I think Demure has more of a satin finish, and on the skin it comes across as a very subtle peachy-nude. The name Demure is absolutely fitting for this shade:
It's been a while since I wore a Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, and I had forgotten how much I enjoy the smooth, moisturizing texture and the lack of fragrance or flavor. In fact, my only complaint about this lip color is that it does go on a tiny bit sheer, so you'll need to build for more intensity. However, this seems kind of fitting since the girls in 1950's movies always ran their lipstick across their lips several times until the color was just right.
looks great on you! i love the revlon logo on the tube =]
ReplyDeleteI don't know why Revlon ever changed their logo. The old one is adorable! I love Revlon lipsticks! I love the way Demure looks on you and I also really want Fire & Ice. Cute!!
ReplyDeleteOhh pretty!! =D
ReplyDeleteThe color looks fantastic on you! ^_^
Carolanne: Thanks so much, sweetie! Glad I'm not the only one who loves that logo. :)
ReplyDeleteMelissa: I totally agree. And I think Fire & Ice would look absolutely stunning on you!
Silly Lilacs: OMG, I just remembered that you looooove peach lipsticks! In that case, I think you need this one! :)
Actually, Fire & Ice remains part of the permanent Super Lustrous collection! They don't come with the retro logo, though, but if you just want to try the color out, it should still be part of the regular display. :) I was looking through reds a couple of weeks ago, and I remember seeing it.
ReplyDeleteclementine: Thanks so much for confirming this! As usual, you are an amazing resource for great info! :) I guess I haven't looked at Super Lustrous reds in a long time! I never noticed it--but that's great to know! I'm going to update my post to reflect this info. xo
ReplyDeletejust a quick ?, how does this color compare to maybelline CS in coral gleam? i like the color of coral gleam but i dont like the finish. thanks.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Guess what I am going to pick up today! I love the color and I have been lookint for a perfect peach! This just may fit the bill! :)
ReplyDeleteOK, so I went and bought all of them yesterday, well, except for Fire & Ice because I just bought it last week with the boring "new" logo :) This is a big deal because I never buy drugstore makeup unless it's on sale!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the shades. They are all so 50's!
Demure is a beautiful color for you, makes me want to dye my hair red again, LOL!
I picked up Fire & Ice... love the old logo. Revlon needs to go back!
ReplyDeleteI'm now obsessed with this collection! The limited edition tube of Fire & Ice is silver and gold- so pretty. The shade Siren is incredibly bright for a drugstore lipstick. I Googled the shade and saw Gucci Westman has used it in a runway show. I think the bright shades make skin glow! I wouldn't wear them with much eye makeup though.
ReplyDeleteDitto on the cuteness of the old logo. It's especially relevant (as is this whole collection) with the popularity of Mad Men.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I have been searching for something that would work as a nude for my pale complexion without making me look dead, as most nudes do.
Demure is the winner! I love this color, and love that the sheer color can be altered depending on the lip liner worn with it!
