NYC Glossies at Dollar Tree and more!

If you missed my post about all the NYC goodies that are currently surfacing at Dollar Tree, click here for pics of all the makeup I've spotted recently. I went to an out-of-the way Dollar Tree location over the weekend (the one on Campo Rd. in Spring Valley if you live in SD) and I was amazed at all the NYC and Sally Hansen polishes I found! My lovely reader, Donna, told me that she and other people have been finding the older Sally Hansen Nail Prism polishes at Dollar Tree lately, but I had no idea how many REALLY old polishes I would find! I didn't even snap pics of all of them, but here are a few:

NYC nail polish 2-packs ($1 at Dollar Tree)

First, what's kind of funny about these is that the outer packaging says "Sally Hansen" at the top, even though they're clearly NYC polishes. Oops! Anyway, the color on the left is a french mani polish, and the one of the right is one of the long-ago-discontinued NYC Foil polishes. Does anyone remember these? WOW what a blast from the past! I searched and searched for some swatches of some of these NYC Foil polishes because I never did get around to buying any when they were still in stores, and I found some here. Pretty!

Sally Hansen nail polish 2-packs (retail: $1 at Dollar Tree)

Remember the Nail Prisms collection? I remember loving the little sticker on the bottle that says "A Rainbow in Every Bottle"! I believe the shade on the left is Golden Tourmaline and on the right we have a REALLY old polish from the Sally Hansen Crystal Chrome Nail Makeup collection (I loooove how these are called "nail makeup"!). I was kind of scared to purchase these though, because aside from them being not big-three-free, the bottle of Crystal Chrome was in pretty bad shape--the handle is discolored and the chrome finish on the bottle is chipped in several places. I don't know...it just sort of scared me.

And for those of you who remember what the Sally Hansen Nail Prism bottles looked like before they had the shape in the above picture, my Dollar Tree had those bottles too! They were sort of squat and round--almost like if you took an egg and put it on its side. I searched and searched for a picture of the old bottle shape and finally found one here if you're curious. My Dollar Tree had the old bottle shape in a TON of shades, so if you've been looking for these, definitely check your Dollar Tree and see if you can find them.

Now, on to what I DID buy:

I really wasn't too interested in the blue and pink shimmers (they look pretty frosty) but the other two polishes? Yes yes and yes!

NYC Nail Glossies in Cognac Sparkle

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Darn you NYC for discontinuing Nail Glossies! I LOVE THESE POLISHES! For me, the staying power is better than In a New York Color Minute and I just loved the colors in this line so much. As you can see in the above swatches, Cognac Sparkle actually goes on much more burgundy than what you see in the bottle, and I like that. It's such a beautiful, rich fall color.

I should also mention that Cognac Sparkle goes on like a DREAM. Seriously, the formula of this polish is pure perfection for me--it practically paints itself! No wonder I miss these polishes so darned much. Gah! And just one coat for total opacity (though of course I used two in the above pics, plus top coat).

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Nail Glossies are DBP and toluene and free and "free of added formaldehyde" according to the label. So even though they're older, they're good to go!

NYC Metallic Nail Glossies in Molten Metal

Imagine my happiness to not only find a beautiful Glossies shade, but also one of the harder-to-find METALLIC Glossies shades! Molten Metal is such a pretty metallic champagne shade--my pics don't do it justice. This one's a bit sheer though, so it definitely requires at least two coats (I used two in the above pics but I should have used three).

And finally, the lovely Donna, who got this whole ball rolling for me, just left a comment on this post with NEW info about new Dollar Tree sightings. You will not believe the stuff she spotted on her most recent Dollar Tree stop, so click here, scroll all the way to the bottom of the comments and check that out. Thanks SO much, Donna, for all your help!

Have you spotted any great beauty deals at your local Dollar Tree lately? If not, are you thinking about going out and trying to find any of these goodies? As always, I've love to hear from you!

  2. I've been checking the DT in my area with no success....yet. Last w/e my husband & I were on a road trip in another state and I made him stop @ every DT we passed, lol. He'd never been to one and we ended up with all kinds of stuff - but still no Prisms! I really hope they show up here in the midwest; I've become obsessed :)

  6. I have an old NYC Foil polish that I got so long ago I don't even remember when. It's Niagara Foils and it's a bluish silver but I haven't used it in years. I wanted a pure silver so I was kind of disappointed, but now I want to use it again.

I also have the blue Nail Glossies you bought, 241 (does your's have a name?) from a few years ago. It looks really pretty in the bottle but it goes on so sheer! I'll have to go to Dollar Tree to check these out.

  7. Your welcome. I know we're all nuts here for a great budget find, and you can't do much better than fifty cent nail polish!

I also got Cognac Sparkle, but no Molten Metal. Bummer! Oh well, I have found so many goodies in the last few days, I'm over the moon!

I was at still another Dollar Tree yesterday and they were putting out new products, they had the Revlon Matte eyeshadow singles and a Sally Hansen/Carmindy cream bronzer. They also had Sally Hansen Lipnotic gloss, it's really blingy like Milani Glitzy Glamour Gloss.

Today's find, at CVS they clearanced out a bunch of fragrances and I got the Hilary Duff one for ten dollars!

  8. Oh man ... I have Molten Metal from when it first came out, and it's simply incredible! As a matter of fact, I remember wearing this and happened to visit a Chanel counter that day, and the SA proclaimed that she KNEW I was wearing their LE polish (Kaleidoscope?) lol.

So FWIW, this little gem is very similar to a Chanel polish that was out a bit ago :-)

  9. After reading this article I had to check out my DT! I found a two-pack of SH Nail Prisms with Diamond and Golden Cinnibar. Along with NYC cosmetic items, my location had Revlon matte eyeshadow singles.
