Nail Tag!

I got this from the lovely War Paint (link in my blog roll) and since I'm posting this from my blackberry I can't seem to control paragraph breaks. So apologies if this posts as one huge block of text! I totally understand if it's too hard to read and you skip it--I just didn't want to go a day without posting on my blog!

How many polishes do you have in your stash?
Approximately 150 and always growing.

Which brand do you own the most of?
Impossible to say. I've got a lot of older Maybellines, L'Oreals, WnWs, OPIs, Rimmels and Sally Hansens and after taking a closer look, not as many Orlys and China Glazes as I thought I had.

What colors do you own the most of?
Greens, blues and reds.

Do you have a color/texture you do not own? I don't have (intential) mattes! I have some neons that I bought, hoping they would not be matte, but they of course are. I guess mattes just don't speak to me much. Oh! I do have a few Maybelline suedes. Do those count?

What's the one polish you always pick up to lift your spirits?
MAC Gee Whiz. I don't think it's available anymore. It's a creme pinky-red that was one of the first things Mr. R ever gave me. He picked it out himself and it means the world to me. Just looking at it makes me smile.

What polish do you keep looking at and wondering why you haven't gotten rid of it yet? Ruby Kisses Neon Green. It is the streakiest polish I own and even after six coats, it STILL wasn't remotely close to the color in the bottle. I get mad just looking at it.

Franken me? or I'm nervous to try it?
Not nervous. Just haven't been inspired yet.

Do you franken for new/original polish ideas or franken for polish you won't be able to own? Neither. I don't franken (yet).

Go-to Base Coat?
Orly Bonder. Accept no substitute! :)

Go-to Top Coat?
Sally Hansen Mega Shine has yet to let me down. Plus, I love the clear bristles.

What's your sexiest polish?
Currently it's gotta be Wet n Wild Mega Last Under Your Spell.

Nail Design:

Stamping vs Free Hand?
I'm afraid to get into stamping because I need another obsession like a hole in the head. So free hand. But anything beyond polka dots is too hard for me.

Bling me, baby? or No bling for me, please!
My idea of bling is glitter or the occasional nail sticker. Both are fun for special occasions. I've never gotten too crazy with jewels but I think they can look really pretty on others.

I consider my nails basically nekkid if they don' t have some kind of design?
No way! 99% of the time I'm absolutely happy with one good ol' polish in a pretty shade.

My favorite plate/tool/technique? I really LOVE the look of using glitter polish as a French tip over dark colors. How do you do it? Do you have to use a sponge to get that graduated, it's-snowing-on-my-nails look??

What I haven't tried and want to within the month? See above.

Purchase/Lemmings:

The one elusive polish you want and can't seem to get?
I'm probably like a lot of others...I would love to one day own NARS Zulu.

What was the last nail related thing you bought?
Another shade from the L'Oreal Passport to Paradise collection. That makes two in my possession.

How many nail related hauls have you bought in the last 7 days (on-line/in-person)?
None. My car is in the shop so I've been stuck at home.

If you've ever been on a no-buy, how long did it last? Is that what you planned?
My no-buys always tend to correspond with a new LE collection debuting at the drugstore so....they never last.

(and one question to grow on) Hobby? Addiction? Compulsion? Passing Fancy? Love?
I'm really into cooking and there are so many amazing recipe blogs online that it's grown into an obsession lately. I've also been obsessed with eating better and cutting out all processed foods from my diet. I'm not perfect but I've made a huge improvement over the last several months. If I look at the ingredients list on a food item and it's a paragraph that looks like it belongs in a science textbook, I avoid it. :)

  1. Hi, R - not sure when my np obsession began.I was/am a perfume junkie on makeupalley, then started lurking on the nail board. NP is cheaper than perfume. No idea the number; around 100? I prefer purples, pinks, reds, taupes, silver metallics and all forms of glitter. :) I am too old & lack the patience for nail design but I do like to dabble in frankening. I share your love for SH Mega Shine topcoat. I am mildly addicted to jewelry, esp funky rings, and I enjoy putting together ring/bracelet/polish combinations for the weekends (hey, it's the little things, right?) Since finding your blog I'm buying polish on sale at least once a week. You rock, Recessionista!

  2. rosarita: So wonderful to hear from a fellow perfume junkie! Perfume is actually my first true love, but I TOTALLY agree with you that nail polish is A LOT friendlier on the budget. lol! But of course I would LOVE to hear what your current fragrance obsessions are (I know you must have one or two at the moment!). :D And you rock right back! xo

  4. Hi Recessionista! I started my nail polish obsession last Fall, and now I have a little over 200 shades! I'm on Makeupalley, so I tend to get some of the latest obsessions. Thanks to you, I just started collecting Wet n Wild polishes, and am highly impressed with the Craze line. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get the color, Berries Jubilee, so I have been hunting for that color left and right! I also took advantage of the Zoya exchange, so now I have a hefty collection of Zoyas. I love your blog, and I get such a thrill purchasing great makeup at the drugstore for dirt cheap prices! Thanks for all the work that you do in keeping us in the know!

  5. My nail polish obsession really started around January of 08, when I was stuck in the house and no longer had schoolwork to occupy my time. I have no idea how many bottles I have, i just know i have two small boxes, and a bigger carrying case like thing full. Lately I've been drawn towards greens, but I don't have many. I probably have the most pinks, because it's my favorite color. lol. I almost always do designs when I have time, but I always freehand them. I don't know what brand I have the most of overall, but of the ones I use regularly, probably sinful colors or Sally Hansen.

  6. Glitter tips were very popular in Japan a few years ago and they are one of the few tricks I picked up.

Basically, you paint your tips with glitter, then you paint the lower 1/4, then lower 1/3, and so on. Your tips will have like 5 coats, while the middle part will only have 1. Does that make sense???
