My favorite blush of the moment (possibly of the year)

Hellooooo lovelies! Aaaah, it feels SO good to be able to post a review for you after such a long (unintentional) break from my computer. I've got some time this afternoon on a functioning computer and I cannot wait to share this product with you!

Before I get into the review, I have to say that this was a completely unexpected love affair for me. I had heard some so-so reviews of this blush, which means I probably wouldn't have purchased it had I not had a good coupon to combine with a BOGO sale a while back. So it just goes to show you that you should never take my reviews, or anyone else's for that matter, as absolute fact. Your results could differ tremendously...you just never know.
Cover Girl & Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Lush Berry (retail: around $12)

If you haven't tried Cover Girl Simply Ageless Blush yet, I am begging you to not jump to conclusions about this one. Yes, its target audience is women with more "mature" skin (which would include me, and it does work GREAT on my skin) but if you're young, do NOT let that stop you. For me, this has been an incredible product that has FAR exceeded my expectations, for several reasons.

(These pictures make this shade look super orange, but I promise you it's not nearly as orange in real life--it's really a beautiful, warm berry shade).

As with all the Simply Ageless products, this cream blush is swirled with a ribbon of Olay Regenerist Serum, which claims to help "improve skin texture" and "give your skin an instantly healthy-looking, youthful looking glow".

The top part of the compact houses the blush (which actually screws into the compact--it's not a flip-top) while the bottom part of the compact is a flip-top and houses a sponge (which I never, ever use, btw. I find this blush to work wonderfully when applied with just my fingers).

So why am I totally NUTS about this blush? Let's take a look:

Above, I tried to illustrate that this blush is SUPER pigmented. Really, a little dab'll do ya! I find that if I swirl my index finger on the surface for just a split second, I've got enough product for one cheek. You don't need much (which makes the hefty price tag even more bearable because, trust me, this blush will last forever), but the wonderful thing is that you can blend and, if it looks too dark, you can continue blending (third picture) until you're satisfied. BUT, I have noticed that when I use this product on top of my powder foundation, I do have to work quickly because it will dry faster and once it's on, IT'S ON.

Let me talk about this superman-staying-power for second. I know I've mentioned here in the past that I much prefer powder blushes on my oily skin because, most of the time, cream and gel blushes just don't make it through the day for me. Well, I seriously want to shout it from the rooftops that this blush is the first cream blush I have ever used that honestly doesn't come off until I take it off. I was SO worried that the ribbon of Olay would make this blush just too darn creamy and be gone from my oily skin within an hour. I was SO wrong. I honestly cannot believe how long this blush lasts! If you're an oily-skinned gal like me, PLEASE think about giving this product a shot--I think it might change your entire perception of cream blushes.

Let's talk about this color, Lush Berry. Oh my goodness. It is ideal for my NC20 skintone! Seriously, it goes with my earthtone eyeshadows, my silvers and grays (in the pic above I'm wearing it with the NYC Color Wheel I got for 25 cents at the CVS beauty clearance sale) and everything in between. It's just a totally versatile blush that gives a beautiful glow to the skin.

And how can I forget to mention what this blush does for my skin! WOOOOWEEEE! I swear, the ribbon of Olay really DOES improve the look of my skin--my pores seem smoother, smaller, and everything just looks so much more polished when I wear this blush. I honestly am so thrilled about how this works for me that I wish I could come over to your house and give you a personal demo. I'm honestly that enthusiastic about it.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop here because I really just would love to hear from you if you've tried a Simply Ageless blush. I really hope I'm not alone in my love for this product, but if you have anything negative to say about it, I would of course love to hear from you too. I totally realize that what works for one person may be an epic fail for another, so I welcome all comments, good or bad!

So tell me, what do you think of Cover Girl Simply Ageless Blush?

  1. You are totally young and do not need to be worrying about "mature" skin; you are completely wrinkle free! THat blush sounds great for my somewhat visible pores on my cheeks! I might try this one! I heard Drew Barrymore wore the peach shade to the SAG awards and she looked gorgeous!

  2. BrooklynShoeBabe: I am so so so happy to hear that you love this blush too! I was starting to think I was crazy since I haven't heard many raves about it. I just think it's the best new product I've tried in many, many months. So thank you for the validation! :D

PCS: You are just too darn sweet for words, girlie! Totally made my day with that comment. :) And thanks for the tip about Drew wearing the peach shade--I think I need to eventually get this blush in every color. lol. xo

  3. I've really been looking for a great long-lasting blush for my oily skin (and somewhat large pores) and I'm DEFINITELY going to give this a try. Thank you for this awesome review! :D

  5. I have the blush in Lushberry too! Its like a dolly pink on my skin so I have to be careful not to use too much. But its my absolute favorite! On days when I'm too lazy for makeup I still dab a little bit of this blush for some color. It works like wonders!

  6. I haven't tried this because I haven't bought a blush in ages! However, I have the same problem with cream blushes - I can only use them in conjunction with powder blushes, generally they slide right off on their own. I want this, now - it looks beautiful on you, too! Thanks for the review.

  7. I tried the Simply Ageless foundation and really like it. I would never spend $15 on it, but Ulta had B2G1 free and I had one of those B1G1 free coupons, plus a $20% off coupon so it was a total steal.

I am intrigued by this blush, but I almost never wear blush because I worry that I haven't applied it correctly. Sad, I know! :)

And I'm the type-- if I don't try it withing about a month, I forget about it, lol. I'm really curious about this whole line... particularly the concealer/under eye corrector. So interesting! Thank you for the awesome review!! =)

  10. Thanks for this review! I also have mature skin and always looking for something to make it look fresher. I wasn't going to try this because years ago I had an allergic reaction to the original formula of Oil of Olay. But based on your review I am willing to give this a shot and see if anything has changed. I am hoping so, because this really sounds promising. I will look for a "deal" and put it on the top of my list to get next. Thanks R

  11. I bought Lush Berry Cover Girl Ageless Blush yesterday and I LOVE it! Thank you for the tip...I'm very picky about color and texture and you were right on with both...your detailed pictures and descriptions gave me the confidence to make the purchase and I wasn't disappointed. This blush looks and wears better than my expensive Stila tint - thank you again!

  12. Amy: Yay! Please, I would LOVE if you'd come back and let me know how you like this if/when you get it. :D

Khymm: Do you have other products by CG there? If so, I hope you can find this one! :)

Fay: I am so glad you like this too!! And thanks for reminding me--this DOES look great even to wear on no-makeup days (which I have been doing a lot lately). :)

Nicole: OMG, pleeeeeease give this one a try! I think it might totally change your mind about cream blushes, honey. Please keep me posted, ok? xo

Jenny: OMG, I think you might love this one. It's pretty hard to mess this one up if you just use a tiny amount and blend it into the apples of your cheeks. Give it a shot if you see it on sale, and let me know what you think! :D

jojoba: Thank you! :D And you know, I've got some discoloration on my cheeks too, but if I apply this over my concealer and foundation, I've noticed that it doesn't remove those products if I blend softly and quickly. So maybe it can work for you too? :)

BeautyMaven: LOL! I'm so glad I could help, sweetie!! And I reviewed the concealer as well, if you missed it! I really like that product too. :)

Lysses: You are so welcome, honey! I really hope this works for you as well as it has worked for me. I swear, it's one of those wonder-products that comes around once in a great while and totally knocks your socks off (well, for me, that is). I am seriously keeping my fingers crossed that you have the same experience! Please keep me posted. :)

Branded: OMG, wow!! You bought this yesterday? Yay!!! I am thrilled that you took a chance based on this review and that it paid off for you! You have totally made my day! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience with me. And I totally agree--I like this better than any of my high-end cream blushes! :)

  13. I read your review of the concealer with great care and fascination. I went and looked at it at CVS. But, the price is a bit more than I care to pay.

Now you give a 'glowing' review about the blush. Hmmmm...maybe I should look for another BOGO deal with CG.

The pictures are great. And you don't even have a wrinkle! How can you say you have mature skin when you look so young?

  14. Kimberly: Oh believe me, I know...the price on these products is very high, but if you can catch them on a BOGOFREE sale it's totally worth it, in my humble opinion. And you are TOO kind regarding what you said about my skin! The power of makeup is a great thing--it really hides the imperfections that I rarely show here on my blog (but as you know, since you saw my CG concealer review, I've got PLENTY of imperfections!). Ha! :)

  15. welcome back to your computer- we missed ya but you did a great job keeping in touch and posting through it all.

i would never have looked at this (because i heard crummy reviews aboout most of that line) but i am reconsidering, especially for future sales and ECBs.

  16. Like BrooklynShoeBabe I'm also a BzzAgent and I received the foundation, blush, concealer, & corrector. I really didn't like any of it at first. But, I gave it another shot & I'm starting to like it. I love your tip on the blush...use just a little. That was one of the things I didn't like. Now using less makes a big difference.

  17. There's a 50% off sale on all face products at a local drugstore and I thought of buying this blush with the new CG primer but I couldn't decide if I wanted to try another concealer or blush.. I left with the primer only. If I had bought the blush along with the primer, my total would have come to $7 each instead of $8.50 for the primer alone. Should I go back and pick up this blush too?? I feel like I made a mistake not picking all three items up!!
