Very interesting news for Korres fans...

The beauty world is abuzz today with the news that Johnson & Johnson just acquired full licensing rights for Korres products in the US. In other words, Korres has given control of its brand and products to J&J inside the US. J&J can market and sell Korres products however they see fit, which could mean we could start to see Korres in lots more retail locations. Or not. All I know is, if Demeter can be at CVS, Korres at Target or Walgreens doesn't seem to be too much of a stretch.

For those of you unfamiliar with Korres, I've mentioned this wonderful Greek company on my blog a few times (click here for details).

How do you feel about Johnson & Johnson controlling how and where we here in the US will be buying Korres products?

PS: By the way, I should credit the first article I saw about this news today, which was at thenhunch.com. :)

  2. I don't know how I should feel about it but I am pretty excited. I have 2 Korres lip balms and they are moisturizing and sheer. I love Korres to death, really, but I hate the prices. J&J are really going to help our wallets out but what new products will they introduce and will they live up to the reputation that Korres has brought? Hmm.

Very much like how Disney just bought the rights to Marvel. Comic books will never be the same... *sigh*.

  3. How weird. I love gaining more access to the brands I love, so I'm hoping this is a good thing.

  4. Hey Fabuless Beauty! I love it. :) I actually posted a video from YT a while back with different designs of this same style. I love these--especially when people get creative and use different types of beads (I've even seen people use candy, buttons, origami stars, etc.). Thanks so much for sharing (and I LOVE your blog, btw!). xo

  5. Hey Shela! Yes, it will be interesting to see what they do with this line...not sure if they're actually going to manufacture Korres products or just distribute them (since it's a licensing agreement I tend to think that Korres will still have complete control over what is produced and how) but maybe the distribution will change and their products will be more easily accessible (that's my dream, at least!). :)

Hey Alyson! I know, it's sort of strange, but if J&J is looking to get into the prestige market, I guess they could learn a lot from Korres, right? :)

  6. Wow! I'm late to this news. I love Korres and until it was at Sephora couldn't get my hands on it. As long as the products stay the same, I think its great that they can get their stuff out more people. Yet, J&J sure is an odd buyer - guess I have to wait and see!

  7. Tyna-

It's interesting that you think J&J is an odd buyer; not sure if you realize, but they actually already own & manufacturer a number of great beauty care brands, including AVEENO, NEUTROGENA, CLEAN & CLEAR and RoC. Korres could make for a great addition to their portfolio and I love the prospect of making this brand more well known to the general public!

  8. Hey Tyna! I totally agree. I was happy to seem some of their products at Marshalls recently but it was just shower gels and hair products. So exciting to think they might have broader distribution now! :)

Hey MartyM--If I may speak on Tyna's behalf, I think we're all a bit surprised since J&J owns drugstore brands (all of the brands you listed can be found at the drugstore) and Korres is their first attempt at a luxury line. It seems odd to me too, because of all the luxury lines out there, Korres is probably the last one I'd expect J&J to acquire the licensing for. But don't get us wrong--I think we all feel that this is fantastic in terms of potential! To think that we may have easier access to our beloved Korres products in the future is fabulous, and think we all can agree on that. Thanks for your comment!

  9. Hi again, MartyM! I also just wanted to add that IF J&J makes Korres available at drustores, Target, etc. it would be a fantastic move on their part. It's kind of a hassle to drive all the way to Sephora to pick up your favorite shower gel or lip balm, right? So I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that this new agreement means easier access for all of us (and possibly lower prices!). :)

  10. I have been using Korres products since the line came out in Greece and have loved them ever since. However, I will no longer buy their products since collaborating with J&J means that a lot of animal testing will be involved (directly or indirectly), which goes against the founding premises of Korres, i.e. natural products that are not tested on animals.

  11. Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows where I can get Korres essential oils. I bought a lavender and a geranium last year on vacation in Greece but it seems that they're only sold there. I live in the U.S. and I can't find them anywhere on the internet which seems really odd. The quality was amazing and I really want to try the others and restock on the lavender and geranium. Please help!
