Spotted: Hard Candy Holiday 2014 Gift Sets

UPDATE: There's also a set of 12 Hard Candy baked eyeshadow singles for $9.98 now popping up at Walmart (in addition to everything below). Thanks to @ariana_araceli on Instagram for that tip!

Reader Sasha spotted some Hard Candy Holiday 2014 Gift Sets at her local Walmart yesterday and was nice enough to share some pics with us. Let's take a look!

NOTE: Hard Candy traditionally releases lots and lots of holiday sets at Walmart every year (I've been covering these sets since 2010--remember the Holiday 2010 collection??). So unless things have changed, there should be more on the way than what I'm featuring here today. Keep checking your Walmart stores, both in the beauty section and the seasonal section, for more from Hard Candy.

Hard Candy Holiday 2014 Gift Sets
(retail: $9.88 each at Walmart stores)

Sasha found both of these sets on an end-cap in the beauty department of her local Walmart yesterday. Let's start with these:

Hard Candy Holiday 2014 Total Eye Kits
(retail: $9.88 each)

Sasha said that there are two different palettes in this display, and each palette comes with its own set of mini eyeliners specific to that palette. She also mentioned that the palettes themselves are a nice, generous size--it's hard to gain perspective from photos but she said they're definitely not mini palettes.

Also, NOTICE the coupon info on these boxes! Each set comes with a $1 off Hard Candy coupon that you can apply to ANY ONE HARD CANDY PRODUCT (this would be great to use on the new Fall 2014 additions to the permanent collection that I blogged about last month!):

Above is the neutral palette, which comes with 8 mini shimmer eyeliners:

Hard Candy Holiday 2014 Smokey Shadow Eye Palettes
(retail: $9.88 each)

Sasha said that these Smokey Shadow Eye Palettes are very long and narrow, measuring almost a foot long each. There are three different palettes in this display and again, these have $1 off Hard Candy coupons inside each kit.

Sasha also shared a photo of the back of the box so you can better see the configuration of the palette:

Each  palette contains:
  • 24 powder eyeshadows
  • 2 blushes
  • 1 mini eyeshadow primer
  • 2 mini eyeliner pencils
  • 1 double-ended sponge-tip applicator

Have you spotted these (or any other) Hard Candy Holiday 2014 gift sets at your local Walmart stores lately? What do you think of these two offerings?

Thanks so much, Sasha, for the great pics and info!

  1. These look interesting. Do you know if hard Candy is still a sister company/made by Urban Decay? I seem to remember it was at one point but can't remember if it still is.

    1. Back in the day, the were owned by LVMH (I don't THINK Urban Decay was ever owned by LVMH??).

When HC relaunched at Walmart several years ago, they were owned by a Florida based company called Falic, and I believe they're still owned by that company to this day. No relation to UD at all .

    2. From 2000 until 2002 LVMH owned Urban Decay, so I guess they could've been sister brands during that time

    3. Currently, no relation. Hard Candy WAS a sister to Urban Decay way back when, but has since been cut off. It was merely a relation by holding company. Now Hard Candy is all by it's lonesome and UD is with L'Oreal.

Here's a short timeline from Wikipedia's two pages on the companies...
      - LVMH bought Hard Candy in 1999, and in 2000, LVMH purchased Urban Decay.

      - In 2002, the Falic Fashion Group (owners of the Perry Ellis fragrance lines) purchased Urban Decay. Falic Fashion Group was sold Hard Candy at an unlisted time.

      - In 2009, Castanea Partners (a private equity firm) acquired Urban Decay. In that same year, Hard Candy announced it's Walmart partnership and that fall, released the new line.

    4. I used to work in Operations at Sephora, which is owned by LVMH. LVMH bought Hard Candy in 1999 and Urban Decay in I believe, 2000. It was around the same time. So they were both under the same umbrella. Then they were both under Falic a few years later until L'Oréal bought UD last year. So while they never had the same creators, they were both part of the same company for a while and a lot of the reps I used to deal with worked for both HC and UD.

  6. I saw Ombre Nail Polish gift sets way up high at my Walmart, I only saw the sequined caps and top of packaging, as it was too high to see any of the actual polish colors...

  7. I bought one of the $9.88 sets before Xmas. After Xmas, I got a couple more for 1/2 price, then a day or 2 later, I got a couple more for 75% off. They also has smaller version which ended up after Xmas costing me under $2. Of course I had to get some of them too. They went so fast. Plus they all had $1 off coupons which were great!
