Review & Swatches: Wet n Wild Spring 2014 Limited Edition Street Art Collection

When I first posted about the new Wet n Wild Wild Shine Street Art Collection for Spring 2014 (click here to see what the display looks like), I assumed that  all of the shades would probably be cremes. Boy was I wrong!

Every time I post about jelly polishes here on the blog (or post swatches of my jelly sandwich manicures), I always seem to get asked the same question: "Can you find jelly polishes at the drugstore?"  Well I'm delighted to tell you that there are two jelly polishes in the Street Art Collection, and they're beauties! But there are even more surprises in this collection so let's get right to it.

NOTE: A few of you have mentioned that some of the polishes in this collection might be similar and/or dupes of shades from previous limited edition Wild Shine Collections such as the Summer 2012 Saved By The Nail Collection, etc. I actually don't own many limited edition Wild Shine polishes, so I can't do comparison swatches for you. After you see my swatches, if you think you might have a similar Wild Shine polish already in your stash, you might want to pop it in your purse when you go looking for the Street Art collection, so that you can compare in-store when you find this display. Hope that helps!

Wet n Wild Spring 2014 Limited Edition Street Art Wild Shine Collection
(retail: $0.99 each, 0.43 oz)

Get Lucky
(three coats, no top coat)

Get Lucky is a bright, cheery yellow creme with hidden iridescent shimmer. This polish wasn't as streaky as some other yellows in my stash, but it did require three coats for good opacity, and it had some leveling issues (which you can see above). Of course this is nothing that a good top coat can't fix, but I still wanted to make note of it. Aside from that, there were no application issues and dry-time was average. Here's a macro to better illustrate the hidden shimmer:

Temptation
(two coats, no top coat)

My camera sometimes has a difficult time picking up pinks and corals, and this is one of those times. Temptation is actually a pinkish-coral, and not nearly as orangey-red as you see above. This one was perfectly opaque at two coats, but the formula was a little thick (but not unbearable). No issues with this one aside from the thickness. Dry-time was average.

Here Comes Trouble
(two coats, no top coat)

Here Comes Trouble reminds of Sally Hansen Blue Me Away! but in real life it's a little more of a jelly-creme (aka "crelly") and a bit more "squishy"-looking than Blue Me Away!. Despite its name, I only needed two trouble-free coats for perfect opacity and I had no issues with application. Dry-time was average.

Too Hot For You
(two coats, no top coat)

Too Hot For You is one of those fiery polishes that grows on you the longer you wear it. I needed two coats for perfect opacity and I had no issues with application or dry-time. This is a tomato-red polish that's loaded with lots of pink shimmer, and in low lighting it has a beautiful "glowy" effect. Check it out:

And now for the jellies!

Cursed
(two coats, no top coat)

No, your eyes do not deceive you. I only needed TWO coats of Cursed (talk about a misnomer!) for the beautiful opacity you see above. That's almost unheard of when it comes to jellies, right? This polish reminds me of vibrant tangerine juice and it's so easy to apply, with a very quick dry-time. If you've been looking for a true orange jelly, you NEED this.

You know I had to show you a jelly sandwich:

 photo 053.jpg

For this jelly sandwich, I applied one coat of Nanacoco Snowflakes (and all-white matte glitter splatter polish)  on top of my existing two coats of Cursed. Then I just applied one more coat of Cursed on top of the glitter polish. Love it.

Deception
(three coats, no top coat)

Another awesome jelly! Deception (perfect name, since it's hard to tell it's going to be a jelly by looking at it in the bottle) required three coats for the opacity you see above and dry-time was excellent.  Look at that gorgeous shade of purplish-plumish-fuchsia! At first I thought this might be a dupe for Milani Rad Purple, but the Milani shade is more wine-colored. Then I thought, "Is this a dupe of Zoya Paloma??" but nope, Zoya Paloma is more of a burgundy (and might I add, not NEARLY as easy to work with as Deception).

BUT HERE'S WHAT IT MIGHT BE A DUPE FOR: One of the brand new OPI Sheer Tints Top Coats. Specifically, the shade Don't Violet Me Down, which you can see swatches of here. They look quite similar to me, but of course I can't confirm this because I don't own the OPI shade at this time.

You know I had to show you a jelly sandwich:

 photo 029-2.jpg

For this jelly sandwich, I applied one coat of Nanacoco Snowflakes (all-white matte glitter splatter polish) on top of my existing three coats of Deception. Then I just applied one more coat of Deception on top of the glitter polish. I. Love. This.

In conclusion, I love this collection and it contains so many wonderful little surprises that I was not anticipating. For $0.99 each (or $0.69 each if you can catch them on sale at Rite Aid or Walgreens this week), I think you'll love every shade in this collection, but I REALLY recommend the two jellies. The only issue I had with these polishes (aside from some of them being a little sheer and requiring three coats) was the cremes don't completely self-level. But again, you can fix that easily with a good, thick top coat.

Do you own any of the Wet n Wild Limited Edition Spring 2014 Street Art polishes? If so, which shades do you own and how do you like them?

    1. Believe it or not, sometimes the Wild Shine LEs show up where you least expect it! If your Burlington Coat Factory has a makeup section, try there (in addition to your usual drugstores). Good luck!!

  6. That red shimmer and the two jellies are outstanding. That yellow is a beauty, too, though I'm not always a fan of wearing yellow. If I can find it for 69 cents this week, though, I might break down and buy it.

    2. Picked up Deception and the Fergie color Hollywood Walk of Fame (clear star glitter polish). As soon as my current mani is done, I'm soooo doing a jelly sandwich. Thanks, G, for turning me onto these polishes and the whole "jelly sandwich" concept!! :)

    3. The star glitter would look so cool in a jelly sandwich. I bought it bur returned it. Boohoo, maybe I will repurchase.

  10. Hello, Miss G. I love swatch posts from you, and will read it in a minute. I just wanted to share something that is kinda sad ...

I have so much polish and couldn't exactly reneger if these were the polished I bought last month, so had to go back to your SPOTTED post to read my comment.

I have all the colors... even the yellow. LOL

    Now to the swatches... yeah!

    2. I haven't used any of these polishes yet... but I will soon enough. I'm just happy I have them. Found at all 6 at Harmon in February, 89 cents each.

I've been busy playing with all the Sinful Colors I bought the other week.

    3. I know I have these polishes because I wrote about it in 2 of your blogs posts. Of course I can't find them in my stash, and I really want to wear Deception as a jelly sandwich. They have to around here some place... before rereading this post I thought I was going crazy..

  11. Picked up Too Hot for You last week, but totally missed Cursed and Deception. Must go back tomorrow for those two. Talk about being deceptive in the bottle vs on the nail! I even picked these up and looked at them but kinda thought they were "meh". Boy was I wrong! Thanks for the pics on these!! :D

  12. I saw these at Harmon FV a few wks ago and only deception came home with me. I've yet to try it out, and pleasantly surprised at its "jelly-ness"!! If I come across them again I'll be sure to show some love to the orange and yellow ones. G., you do make the best jelly sams, I just can't seem to find the right combo even tho I've used np's known to be actual jellies.

    1. Oh gosh, thank you, B!! :)

I think the key is to put down a good, semi-opaque layer first, then the glitter and then just one, or maybe two at the most layers of the jelly again. Don't give up... you'll get it!! :)

  13. temptation and cursed are my faves from the group! Last time I checked, the drugstore in my area didn't have them... but if I come across them, I'm snatching them up!

  15. "too hot for you" looks very similar to orly cherry bomb! the obvious exception being that thfy's shimmer is pinkish whereas cherry bomb's is more orange-toned. either way, they're both stunners! here's hoping we get this collection out in my neck of the woods. *grabby hands*

  16. Gorgeous swatches! I already had the purple jelly, but after seeing this I had to get the orange jelly too. SO GOOD!

  27. I got the blue, purple, & a red but, the blue is amazing! I wasn't too happy with the purple but, I've only used a jelly polish maybe 1 other time. I guess it takes some getting used to!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm so jealous of your jelly sandwiches! Every time I try to do one, it always ends up looking bad and a big mess. I might pick up Deception since it's such a pretty color and I could probably pull it off on its own if I don't like it for a jelly sandwich. Are there specific formulas for glitters that are better for jelly sandwiches than others?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I just found the collection at KMart and bought Get Lucky, the yellow. Kmart had it without the display on the bottom of a messy shelf. That store is a mess. With the $! coupon from the Sunday paper, I paid 5cents.

  30. I didn't see the street art display at Walgreens -- I actually found these in a wet n' wild display on the side of one of the aisles mixed in with other products. I picked up the "Here Comes Trouble" remembering your post, but I couldn't remember what colors I had said I wanted and I didn't have time to access your blog on my phone. Needless to say I got to work and looked up this post, I had wanted the jelly ones! So back to Walgreens I go tomorrow to get them. Oh, and I almost forgot, I paid $0.69 a piece.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Has anyone found these online? None of the stores in my area have them and I don't want to pay $3 or 4 for them on ebay.
