ChapStick Spring 2014 Limited Edition Citrus Jelly Bean and Pomegranate Gumdrop
(retail price: around $1.99 each, 0.15 oz)
Both of these lip balms have the same texture and consistency that you find in other traditional ChapStick lip balms. I find regular ChapSticks to have a texture that's a bit slick and not heavy or thick, and these are exactly like that. For me, these are great to use underneath drier lipsticks, because they don't dilute the color of lipsticks like some other lip balms tend to do, but they add some extra hydration to dry lip colors.
Pomegranate Gumdrop: this one has the strongest fragrance of the two, and it has a yummy, tart, mouth-puckering pomegranate note, but it also really does manage to smell like gumdrops. It's a great combination of the two, and the flavor matches the fragrance. This one definitely tastes like sweet-yet-tart pomegranate candy to me.
Citrus Jelly Bean: ChapStick nailed it with this one too. The fragrance of this one isn't quite as strong as Pomegranate Gumdrop, but it's definitely noticeable. To my nose, it's a great combination of tart orange and jelly bean. The flavor was a bit surprising--to me it almost tastes like orange zest with just a bit of a jelly bean background. It sort of has a bitter orange note (just like orange zest) and it's not a sugary-sweet candy flavor. It tastes like a more "sophisticated" citrus, if that makes sense.
FINAL VERDICT: If you love tart, fruity flavors and fragrances, I think you might enjoy these quite a bit. ChapStick has been doing a wonderful job with their limited edition gourmand flavors over the past few years (I still adore my Cake Batter and Velvet Cupcake balms) and these are no exception. They're not sickeningly-sweet candy lip balms; they're a bit more sophisticated while still managing to be "fun." I say grab 'em while you can if the idea of these flavors appeals to you.

I'm addicted to pomegranate anything. As if I needed more chapstick!
ReplyDeleteI think Cake Batter may have become permanent? I was at my local Walgreen's and saw a separate section in their Chapsticks at the register filled with Cake Batter singles (not in the limited edition plastic packaging).
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting the ingredient lists of things. I used to never concern myself with it but since I have been diagnosed with a formaldehyde allergy I have to check everything (since you would be amazed how many cosmetics and personal care products have formaldehyde or formaldehyde releasing agents in it). Often even a company's website will not list the inactive ingredients to their products so thank you!! You make my life (and beauty addiction) so much easier :)
ReplyDeleteI will try the pomegranate if I can find it! I haven't seen them yet. The Velvet Cupcake is my most fave ever!
ReplyDeleteI really do want these!! I love anything new you know!!!! Anyway once I finally bought Cake Batter I was so disappointed, it smells so yummy, but it goes on "hard" not soft and slippery like my Candy Cane Chapstick. Do you think it is possible to have "bad batches"? I have been using it to see if maybe it needs to warmed up or it will get better with use...idk what to think...maybe try a different one? Anyway for the price I will be giving both of these a shot once I find them!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteMine is a bit hard too, as is my vanilla mint Chapstick... Perhaps some flavors are just not able to be released in a soft, slippery formula
DeleteI'm so easy to please and a new chapstick always makes my day. I will be buying these both.
ReplyDeleteThey look and sound delicious! I can almost smell them through my monitor.
ReplyDeleteAlready on the hunt but they have eluded me so far. Did try the Blistex Orange Mango Blast and Raspberry Lemonade Blast and wowza for both! The orange mango tastes citrus-y yet creamy and smells mouth watering!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the thorough review!!! I especially like how you mentioned its wear underneath lipstick. The only lip balm I have
ReplyDeletenow that doesnt dilute my lipstick color is the Neutrogena Naturals which I am enjoying, but its lack of yummy scent leaves me wanting more... Haha! My Hubby also loves fruity scents (he is a chef) so I think these will win extra points for me!! ;)
I LOVE Chapstick flavors, my favorite one is their new Hydration Lock Vanilla Cremé, but the Citrus Jelly Bean Lip Balm sounds divine! <3
ReplyDeleteI just love trying new chapsticks. Hope I see these soon!
ReplyDeleteI can't find these anywhere! I did find pomegranate punch at target today.
ReplyDeleteIf you missed out on the easter special flavor Pomegranate Punch you can find it here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IMOO7A0/?m=AASGLDI7OORFV
ReplyDeleteAre they ever going to bring it back again?? Mine lasted me forever and I have finally run out. I NEED to find another one ASAP!
