I recently spotted the Wet n Wild Limited Edition Where's The Party? Collection at a local CVS (where Wet n Wild is currently BOGOFREE through 10/20) and I picked up the Shimmer The Night Away palette. The palette I really wanted (Sparkle Til' Morning) was already gone from the display, and I didn't want to purchase Drinking A Glass Of Shine since that's a repromote of the I Heart Matte palette which I already reviewed/swatched here.
Wet n Wild Limited Edition Shimmer The Night Away Palette
(retail: $4.99, 0.3 oz)
Keep reading for swatches and comparisons to other Wet n Wild and Black Radiance shadows...
Left side of palette:
Shimmery white with fine silver sparkle. Sheer without primer. Smooth consistency; not too soft or crumbly.
Metallic silver. Very good pigmentation without primer. Smooth consistency; not too soft or crumbly.
Matte charcoal with fine silver sparkle. Drier consistency; decent pigmentation without primer but a bit patchy.
Matte black with fine silver sparkle. Drier consistency and a bit crumbly. Very good pigmentation without primer.
Satin mauve with (barely perceptible) gold shimmer. Smooth consistency with fair pigmentation without primer.
Shimmery fuchsia with violet flash. Soft and crumbly texture; very good pigmentation without primer.
Satin purple with fine silver sparkle. Smooth consistency with good pigmentation without primer.
Matte peacock blue with fine silver sparkle. Soft and crumbly texture; very good pigmentation without primer.
All of these shadows would work best with a good eyeshadow primer underneath, but there are definitely some shades that really don't require primer beforehand (the silver, magneta, black and blue shades). If you're not a sparkle lover, this palette might not be for you since five of the eight shades do contain fine sparkle.
Now for some comparisons:
I'd like to start by showing you this palette next to the Posh Plum 8-pan from Black Radiance (for those who don't know, Black Radiance and Wet n Wild are both owned by Markwins).
Wet n Wild Shimmer The Night Away (left)
vs.
Black Radiance Posh Plum (right)
With the exception of the sparkly black matte, there are no dupes/repeats in these two palettes. And honestly, there IS a slight difference between the sparkly black mattes in these two palettes:
(shadows swatched over primer)
Posh Plum palette (left)
Shimmer the Night Away palette (right)
The black in Posh Plum seems to be a little bit deeper and it also has more sparkle.
Next up:
Wet n Wild Shimmer the Night Away (left)
vs.
Wet n Wild Petal Pusher (right)
(shadows swatched over primer)
Left to right:Browbone shade in Petal Pusher, eyelid shade in Petal Pusher, browbone shade in Shimmer The Night Away
As you can see, the shimmery browbone shade in the Petal Pusher palette is nowhere close to the mauve shade in Shimmer The Night Away. At first glance, it appears that the mauve shades in Petal Pusher and Shimmer The Night Away are dupes but if you look closely, you'll see that they're not. The mauve in Shimmer The Night Away is more purple. Also, the mauve in Petal Pusher has more noticeable gold shimmer; the gold shimmer in the Shimmer The Night Away mauve is barely perceptible (you can't even see it in my swatches).
And finally, here's a comparison of the matte charcoal shades in both palettes:
(shadows swatched over primer)
Petal Pusher (left)
Shimmer the Night Away (right)
I'd say these two shades are pretty much dupes but if you wanted to get picky, I think there's more sparkle in the Petal Pusher shade.
I'd say these two shades are pretty much dupes but if you wanted to get picky, I think there's more sparkle in the Petal Pusher shade.
SUMMARY: If you already own Wet n Wild Petal Pusher or Black Radiance Posh Plum, you'll be happy to know that you won't find many dupes/repeats in the Wet n Wild Shimmer The Night Away palette. However, I'd say you probably have to enjoy sparkle if you're going to buy the Shimmer The Night Away palette since over half of the shadows in this palette do contain fine sliver sparkle. Do I think Shimmer The Night Away is a must-have? It really depends on how many other Wet n Wild shadows you already own. Many previous trios and 8-pans contain sparkly matte blacks and charcoals. Also, we've seen the silver metallic shadow in previous LE trios (Night Elf and Enter A New Realm) and we've seen the white, purple and blue shadows before in the newer singles (Unplugged, Glamrock and Stagedive). Come to think of it, we've also seen the fuchsia color before, in the I'm Feeling Retro trio. Hopefully this comparison will help you to determine whether or not this one's a must-have for you, based on what you already own (or don't own).
Do you own any of the Where's The Party 8-pans? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Some of the products featured in this post were given to Nouveau Cheap for previous reviews.
i went to 5 different cvs' today looking for these damn palettes! none had them!
ReplyDeleteYou can always call ahead. Give them the exact product code and they can check the display for you. Be very specific because they don't know what your looking for. I did it and luckily, I was very precise and the guy told me he had all three!!!
DeleteI think these colors look pretty, but it's not something so amazing that I feel tempted to go pick them up, imho!
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely my least favorite of the three palettes - it's pretty, but I prefer the other two (and I had missed out on the I Heart Matte palette, so I was excited to get it now!)
ReplyDeleteSame here nowhere to be found in Northern VA :((
ReplyDeleteIt's available at most of the CVS's in Fairfax/Chantilly/Centerville.
Deletei wish i could grab one now!!!^^
ReplyDeleteI love how buttery smooth wet and wild shadows are..shall be looking forward to this palette. It looks good to me! :)
ReplyDeleteno where to be found in nyc area!!
ReplyDeleteI went to CVS tonight and picked up Petal Pusher and Comfort Zone. I was really drawn to the pretty mauves in the PP palette and the CZ palette has a some really nice browns and greens. I'm excited to try both because I've never tried WnW eye shadows before.
ReplyDeletePretty colors..I have the I ♥ Matte, and never even opened it, if I happen to just bump into them then all the btter. If not no biggie, not something I am going to be trotting all over town for.
ReplyDeleteI want these new palettes so bad! I've looked everywhere and have had no luck..... I live in Chattanooga, TN, the one place on the planet that still doesn't have them :(
ReplyDeleteThey are surely taking their time to land in NYC!! I like that mauve and fuschia!!
ReplyDeleteI doubt we'll get them. Walgreens here doesn't seem to ever have WnW LE palettes, and CVS doesn't carry WnW at all. I wish there was a swap/wishlist board on Nouveau Cheap.
DeleteWalgreen's has the 8 pan pallettes (and much more) online and they will ship to your home. I have ordered Wet n Wild nail polish from them and was very happy when it arrived a few short days later! It was well packaged and arrived without damage and in a timely manner as well.
Delete*insert tantrum* I can't find them...so annoying.
ReplyDeleteAfter checking at least 15-20 CVSs in the Metro Detroit area...I am very happy to report that I FINALLY found all 3 pallettes this morning !!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to get them home and play with them.
The only stand out here for me is the silver.. and I seldom ever wear silver. If the fuchsia is comparable to the "sunburned" palette it's a no-go.. that color looked horrible on my skin tone for some reason.. in fact I hated the whole palette except for the gold color.. the brown was so crumbly it contaminated everything and I tossed the palette. It's the only trio I do not own.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't found these palettes locally.. but I'm honestly not looking too hard after reading multiple reviews. I was so excited to see new ones.. but I'm quite disappointed, they in no way compare to the overall excellence of the original 8 pans.
I've hit ALL the CVS stores in my neck of the woods and I can't find this yet. There was one display but most of the palettes were gone. Not even Wags or Rite Aid has them! Oy vey!
ReplyDeleteAnyone know if these eight pans will be in Walgreens? Since the CVS locations in Florida don't carry WNW so Walgreens carries it, any news on that?
ReplyDeleteHave you checked the interactive sightings map? These have definitely been spotted at Walgreens and elsewhere.
DeleteOh no! I think I need the Shimmer palette now. =O
ReplyDeleteG, I am blind, I can't read maps nor my screen reader. So, I have to ask around. I will call and see if they have them at Walgreens.
ReplyDeleteMari, i'm very sorry. I knew that you had mentioned before that you were visually impaired but I didn't know you could not view maps. Please forgive me. If it's possible for you, there's a link on the map post that will take you to a full screen version of the map. On that page, there is a list on the right hand side of the map that has just written words and a listing of each location on the map. Hopefully that is much easier to read? I really hope you're able to find these soon! :)
DeleteMari, the only marker on the map in Florida right now is at Christmas Tree Shops
DeleteAltamonte Springs, Florida
I'll be happy to check for you anytime you want.

So if anyone is wondering, the pretty teal in "sparkle til morning" is the same teal that it is "blue had me at hello", the one in BHMAH is *maybe* a touch deeper. I was also able to dupe most of the rest of the shadows from trios I have, many shadows from Shimmer the Night Away can also be duped from WnW trios. I bought them, and like them, but am a touch disappointed.

ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly once swatches started showing up online. I've been keeping my eye out for them.. just because of my WnW addiction, LOL.. but I too was disappointed.. was really hoping for some new, unique colors. I guess the original 8 pans are a hard act to follow..
I know this is an old post but wanted to put more of my 2 cents! I wasn't able to find any of the Where's the Party pallets in my Walgreens locations, I even tried one near a friend of mine's but I did get an ELF book shadow set which I am happy to find and get my hands on ELF products (never tried them but heard good things about them!). I did end up getting Shimmer the Night Away on Ebay since it's the only place I can get it besides WNW, since they sent all their limited holiday stuff to the stores already.
ReplyDeleteI did get some WNW eye shadows before I got this one since it really got my curiosity going and I do have some shimmery colors from L'Oreal's Infolluble line, I did get Petal Pusher to see and feel and Blue Had Me At Hello (I love it, but need to use Petal Pusher at some point), I also have Steel My Thunder and by what I read here it looks like the silver in Shimmer might be close to the silver crease color in Steel My Thunder and the purple reminds me of Bruiser from Hot Topic's War Paint Beauty line which is now known as Ecstasy Purple since Black Heart came out. And the blue in it sounds like the blue in the Mermaid Waters pallet from Black Heart as well (my opinion, lol). I will see what happens with the rest once I get it in the mail which I've been looking all over for it. I do love WNW eye shadows now though. That's about it.
Also, to the Charlotte, I didn't read your comment before I posted about getting it on Ebay, do you know if they have the other two pallets at that Christmas shop in Altamonte? Maybe they will be cheaper than the price I ended up getting for Shimmer the Night Away. :)
