UPDATE: Reader @aitch77 just informed me that she spotted the Shine Sensational LIPSTICKS on Last Chance clearance at her local Walgreens as well.
Was it really the winter of 2009 when I went absolutely bonkers for the (then brand new) Maybelline Shine Sensational Lip Glosses?!? Oh how I loved the one that smells and tastes like French macarons! My how time flies.

Well, I'm afraid that we might be saying au revoir to these yummy little glosses because look what reader @tn_twistgirl83 spotted at her local Walgreens recently:

Maybelline Shine Sensational Lip Glosses at Walgreens
Last Chance Clearance: Was $6.45, Now $3.29
Obviously this doesn't mean they're definitely discontinued (I have no way of knowing that), but it doesn't look good, considering that we saw the same "Last Chance" signs on the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure line and then Sally Hansen confirmed that the entire line was being reformulated.
So...if you love these little glosses, I advise you to stock up now. Just in case.
Thanks so much, @tn_twistgirl83, for the pic and heads-up!
I never got around to purchasing these but now that they're on clearance I might have to.
ReplyDeleteI've honestly never tried them. The packaging always turned me off.
ReplyDeleteEarly this summer, my CVS had "last chance" tags on ALL regular L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipsticks. Unfortunately, I had recently hauled 10 different shades, so couldn't take advantage of the price. Fortunately, months later, they are all still there and in an un-discontinued state. Not sure what the tags really mean sometimes.
ReplyDeleteCVS last chance tags are the worst indicator of whether a product is being discontinued. I have seen them on countless items, and weeks later they return to their regular price.
DeleteI am not a fan of these glosses. They do not last long at all. I do use the ones I have over stains and butters. The clearance price on the tags are too rich for my blood for this item.
I agree with you both. I can never figure out the CVS clearance tags, and even when they have their big clearance sales, it doesn't always mean the products on clearance are being discontinued. Walgreens clearances, on the other hand, seem to be a more reliable indicator of what's truly going to be discontinued.
DeleteNever tried these but if I remember correctly, these aren't properly sealed.......
ReplyDeleteExactly why I never bought more of them! I wanted to buy more, but some of the tubes at my drugstores look like they've been opened/tested. Such a shame. :(
DeleteHmm I went to walgreens yesterday and didn't see them on clearance however I saw the covergirl natureluxe foundation on clearance for about $7.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I posted about that a little while ago and it's making me nervous...I really hope they're not DCing that foundation! :/
DeleteNever tried these either, but I might try them if they're on clearance around here.
ReplyDeleteI went and it seems like the here were some pinks, plums a nude and a coral int the lipstick display that were on clearance. All of the maybelline glosses were on clearance as well. It is also good to note that maybelline is bogo 50% off I payed $5.63 for a gloss (glamours guava) and a lipstick (plum shine). I also found some elf products at my walgreens as well, I picked up a super gloss lip shine in honey do.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!!

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind if these were discontinued. They did not live up to my expectations in terms of staying power or the pigmentation.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel like a makeup enthusiast/lover anymore because I have never seen/heard of this product in my life! :(
ReplyDeleteSad Day.
Wow! Really, CiCi? Maybe your eyes just always went to other items in the Maybelline permanent wall display and you never noticed them before.
DeleteAt any rate, at least you won't miss them if they go away, right? ;)
I remember when these came out but have noticed in my stores they are near the very bottome of the display so they don't quite "catch your eye"
DeleteGuess I'll have to scope out the local Walgreens this weekend, the clear/peach gloos is definitely a staple in my purse! I love the smell/flavor and it's a good basic gloss to wear when I want some extra shine.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the CoverGirl Nature Luxe foundation on clearance on two of my local Walgreens for quite a while now... Don't know is that is a bad sign
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be too sad since these glosses were actually really sticky for me~
ReplyDeleteI'm not a gloss fan but thought I'd look. Popped in at two Walgreens and no markdown, but other Maybelline lipsticks were half-off at one place. I'm most excited, though, because I found a place where not all the Sally Hansen complete manicures were picked clean and found Hidden Treasure, which I've been wanting to get on sale for a while.
ReplyDeleteno big loss in my book and maybe makes room for new or improvement... these or something else. I had one or two that were ok but frankly, I have dollar store glosses I like more than these. other than the scents they all looked the same on me... clear with or without shimmer. meh. I will be really bummed if the lipsticks go though, esp if Revlon really did get rid of their ColorBurst line, ColorSensational was my other drugstore fav. speaking of which Rite Aid had a new display of Revlon lipsticks.... Suede- something that has "instant moisturizing" and like 12 or more shades. I got It Girl (nude pink creme from the looks, and they are well sealed!) I but stupidly forgot to snap a pic of the display and havent swatched it yet *doh* but wondering if these are the CB replacements.
ReplyDeletewhoops I got Socialite not It Girl and they are the new Revlon Colorstay Suede lipsticks that I saw. I liked the old ones that didn't have shimmer so am hopeful these are even better and not drying. we shall see! saw a lot of holiday stuff coming out too but nothing that hasnt already been spotted :)
ReplyDeleteHow do you like the Suede? I think Socialite was one of the ones I was curious about. I want to try them but can't figure out which one I want. I saw them at Bed Bath & Beyond, but the lighting was terrible so I decided to wait.
DeleteUltimate Suede CS
ReplyDeleteStopped in my local Walgreens yesterday and these were not marked down. Not sure I would buy them even if they were though.
ReplyDeleteThey better not be discontinuing because I love Creamy Candy and use it on top of the Celebrate lip tint by Lush Cosmetics that they put out for Christmas last year. The Creamy Candy makes sense because Celebrate has a sweet, tangy taste of champagne and the color is a golden pink. Maybe this will help in answering questions, why not ask Maybelline about it? I may ask them myself because I love these and picked up two tubes of Creamy Candy when CVS had their big drugstore sale on Maybelline.
ReplyDeleteColor burst going goodbye? No! :( is that really a thing? I haven't heard that...
ReplyDeletethe Suede is ok. Socialite seems lighter on than in the tube; light and sort of a peachy pink, no shimmer. others do have shimmer. The texture feels and looks semi-matte. unfortunately it did highlight every little bit of chapped lips I have right now so that wasn't the best but some balm helps . I'd like to try one of the deeper shades to compare, perhaps one of the plum or mauve ones.
