Michelle Obama's nail color: revealed

Wow, you guys are ON it! Right after I posted about the First Lady's fabulous nail color last night, I received a flood of responses on Facebook, Twitter and in the comments letting me know that the shade has just been revealed!

Per Tamron Hall of MSNBC (who Mr. G happens to have a huge crush on, by the way), the mystery nail color is:

Artistic Color Gloss Soak-Off Gel in Vogue

According to the Artistic Nail Design website, Vogue is described as "Grey Lilac (Iridescence/Sheen)". You cannot purchase this polish directly from Artistic Nail Design, but it is for sale here (and I'm sure it will probably sell out shortly). It retails for $15.95 (0.5 oz). Note: this polish is a traditional gel polish that must be cured with a UV light source.

No better way to avoid chips than to go with a gel mani, right?

So...get ready for the dupes. Well, I hope someone dupes this soon (or discovers a great existing dupe) because as reader Chloe mentioned, I have a thing for grays (you know me too well, Chloe!) and I would love an affordable, non-gel dupe of this color for my collection.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to share the official info with us.

    1. OK, I just read this article and am I missing something?I didn't see anything there to contradict this info? Thanks!

  4. I'd be interested to know how close it is to Sally Hansen Salon Manicure "Commander in Chic", it looks really close to me.

    1. Really? Commander in Chic is a dark taupe with brown undertones for me...Mrs. O's polish is a bluish-gray. Hum...

  5. It's such a nice color, but I don't want a gel polish lol. I get bored with manis so quickly, it would be a massive waste of money for me! G, please let us know if you hear of any dupes!

    1. Amelania I get gel mani's every two weeks and I was hemming and hawing over it, because I get bored after a couple of days, so I just polish right over it with my regular polishes! Then when I take THAT off with non acetone remover, voila! The gel looks like brand new still!

  6. If my 77 year old mom was talking about it, then you KNOW it was fly. I am a gray ADDICT (sitting here typing this in a gray off the shoulder sweatshirt), so thank you for the info. G, you are always on the case!

  7. Sally Hansen had the following on its Facebook page: "Congratulations to our designer partner Tracy Reese for the amazing custom dress she created for Michelle Obama at last night’s National Democratic Convention! ... You can get a similar nail look with our Complete Salon Manicure in Gray by Gray!" I'm not sure if I'd agree, though. On some sites, including yours, Gray by Gray, reminds me a lot of Sinful Colors' Leap Flog, albeit a slightly cooler version.

    1. I agree - SH Gray by Gray is not got much if any lilac blue to it at all.

  8. Check out Misa Heartbreak it's similar.

  9. Mrs. Obama looked lovely last night! First thing I noticed was the nail polish and how it matched the bottom part of her dress. The dress...OMG how beautiful, and I love the way the cocoa colour under the bright pink complimented her skin tone. Perfection!

  10. It's a grey lilac. Which when I first saw her nails that's what i said, a nice light purpleish grey. Lol! What about Zoya Caitlin? I'm going to keep looking too bc this has got me really interested. 8)

  11. Essie Cocktail Bling is close - a bit lighter maybe but has that gray blue and not as light as Zoya Caitlin as I sit here and look at both bottles. Might be able to mix a close dup with Essie Cocktail Bling and Essie School of Hard Rocks (winter 2012 collection). Whatever .. ya know due to all the buzz there are going to be some rushing to release a feature new shade from a whole lot of polish lines .. which many might be a re-release under a new name is my guess.

  12. Just read the Artistic Design write up and it says LED lamp for 20 sec OR UV light for 2 mins - so it's OK to use either type of lamp. I have found this to be the case with all the gel polish I have tried thus far. Just an FYI that I think most would know already - LED is safer to use than UV. I am with the commenter who said not her for gels. I have some gel polish but I don't like the soak to get them off....dried my nails out fierce. I have found I can use any regular polish and use only the gel clear top coat and get about the same lenght of wear time out of em.

  13. FINALLY! I'm a bit sad it's a gel polish since I'm not too into that. I can see why she chose that--no chips allowed!

  14. I think the closest match I found was OPI I Don’t Give A Rotterdam. It has a lilac hue to it!

  15. Wow that was a great color! I like how she didn't stay beige like other first ladies.

  16. What about Essie's Chinchilla? Is that too dark?

  18. Hmm, I am thinking of Sinful's Precious Metal from their new Metallic line. ::hides in case of any things to be thrown:: Well, I think the old Nail Prisms from Sally Hansen did have a gray polish that took on the pink glare. Hmm...that;s my two cents!

  19. This was a sophisticated selection by the First Lady. She got my vote for nail color this year.
