Remember a few weeks ago when reader cindyinphilly spotted the new Revlon Runway Report shade, Sparkle Aplenty? Since these Revlon one-shade displays are usually dupes of higher-end polishes, I asked all of you what you thought Revlon might be duping with this black glitter polish. The response I received from many of you was that it might be OPI Metallic 4 Life. Well, thanks to reader @abbyt7, I've got a comparison for you today!

No dupes here! I personally prefer Metallic 4 Life because the formula is easier to apply and contains more glitter. Sparkle Aplenty surprised me by having larger black hexes along with silver, although it seems to only include small and large glitter (Unlike M4L, which has multiple shapes and sizes of glitter). This is 3 coats of each polish:

Thanks so much, @abbyt7, for the beautiful pics and for taking the time to do this comparison for us!
Readers: which polish do you prefer? Will you be looking for Revlon Sparkle Aplenty in your area? Have you already found it? Once again, here's what the display looks like in case you're on the hunt.
They're both a little chunky for my taste...
ReplyDeleteTotally understandable. :) I love chunky glitters for my toes but they're definitely not for everyone!
DeleteI think I like Sparkle Aplenty better, but neither are must haves for me. I saw the Revlon display at a Walgreen's in LA today, in case that helps anyone find it.
ReplyDeleteHow did I not know you were in LA?? *waves from SD* :)
DeleteI think I prefer the Revlon... Feels more original
ReplyDeleteI think I do too, actually. I'm a sucker for black glitter...
DeleteI love Revlon!
ReplyDeleteMe too. :)
DeleteThank you for the comparisons! I really want to see one coat of the Revlon over black polish... I love how the glitter in it looks more flat. Almost like that white glitter from Sally Hansen White Veil.
ReplyDeleteYou're making me want to google white veil now, Hana! Lol! I forgot what that one looks like!
DeleteIt's super pretty! It's a layering polish with a clear base and medium non-shiny white glitter and some larger gold hex glitter. You might be able to find it somewhere, and if you do, I really recommend it!
DeleteI think I'm in the minority, but I love M4L. It's one of those polishes that I think looks a lot better on my nails than in pictures. I've been looking for the Revlon since I saw your post, but no luck yet!
ReplyDeleteIt's not at my Walgreens either...yet!
DeleteIf you apply a topcoat will the nails feel rough with Revlon's Sparkle Aplenty?
ReplyDeleteHopefully Abby sees this and can let you know!
DeleteI didn't apply topcoat for these swatches, and I'm not a big glitter wearer, but I'm guessing that a coat of Gelous would even it out like it does with most other glitters! This is Abby, btw :)
DeleteWhenever I wear something super chunky, like M4L, I apply a good coat of Gelous, then Seche Vite because Gelous can take a while to dry at times for me. This combo gives me a super smooth, glassy finish!
DeleteSometimes if I don't want to have such a chunky effect, I do 2 coats of black creme and just one coat of the chunky polish. I've done this for Revlon Scandalous as well (similar to M4L, IMO), and it still looks great, just less bulk lol
I prefer Metallic 4 Life. Every Walgreens I went to yesterday had this. It's not impressive.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for black glitter so that's why i'm drawn to the Revlon. I feel like we haven't seen this particular color/glitter combo before. :)
DeleteI kinda like the Revlon polish over the OPI. I have Metallic 4 Life, but never wore it. I'm just too lazy for glitters.
ReplyDeleteI found this today and carried it around before ultimately putting it back. I was already buying two lipsticks and four polishes so I was trying to be good. (Well, not as bad anyway!) I'll probably still pick this up though, on one of those days where you made the trip to the drugstore and can't find anything so you buy something to justify the gas! I love the black glitter.
ReplyDeleteWow, glad I saw this because I almost picked up the Revlon on a couple of occasions today but seeing it here. I really do not like it.
ReplyDeleteWow! Thank you all SO much for sharing all of the things you were able to get on clearance! This helps sooo much and I really appreciate you taking the time to list everything.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hit up this sale tomorrow...I hope everything isn't wiped out by the time I get there! :)
I think i prefer the revlon, but i always found their formula so difficult... I saw the display in many Duane Reades at NYC and in walgreens too!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I think I prefer the Revlon. Such a sucker for glitter, I am, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm headed to Walgreens....lol
ReplyDeleteLike everyone else I like the Revlon and I hope to find this soon! Thanks Abby!
ReplyDeleteOPI's Metallic 4 Life looks a lot nicer. Sparkle Aplenty just looks kind of ugly in comparison.
ReplyDeleteOoh. I love the look of Metallic 4 Life but OPI and my body chemistry don't get along, their polishes always start chipping off my nails in five minutes. Might have to pick up the Revlon. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm with a lot of you, I kinda prefer the Revlon. However, since I own the OPI, I won't be buying something so close. FYI, there's a drugstore dupe of Metallic 4 Life from Milani, it's called Black Tux. I have no idea about it's availability, though.
ReplyDeleteI would say Revlon! I love black and silver since they are two of my fave colors. I also did love Scandolous, another one of Revlon's polishes with glitters, and love the pay off! I may have to use my CVS rewards bucks on the Revlon one! :3
ReplyDeleteI like how the Revlon one looks, but I've been underwhelmed by the Revlon polishes I've tried in the past, so if I picked one up, it'd be the OPI for sure.
