Real Techniques Update (New Sets and More)

Those Pixiwoo Sisters, always keeping us on our toes!

I have a lot to go over in this post so, if you're a Real Techniques fan (and I'm pretty sure you are if you're reading this blog!), sit down and get comfy because this is a long one!

First up: Sales, Sales, Everywhere Sales

You may have noticed that a lot of Real Techniques brush sets are on sale right now at various retailers. And when I say "on sale" I mean 50% off or more. I've receive a ton of great tips lately from readers all over the country (THANK YOU!) who have spotted various RT sets at the discount stores like Ross, Marshalls and TJMaxx for 50% off or more, and I know many of you have also seen sets on sale at the drugstores (Rite Aid and Walgreens, in particular) as well as in-store at grocery stores, Ulta, Kohl's, Target, Kmart and Walmart. So the moral of this story: keep your eyes open for RT deals right now, no matter where you are!

So why the big sales on RT right now?

Here's my educated guess: whenever we see widespread discounts like this, it generally means that the brand is making room for new products and/or giving the brand a makeover. In the case of Real Techniques, I THINK it may be a little bit of both. Because in addition to a ton of new 2017 products (which I'll show you in moment), there are some new sets that have a different style of brush (in particular, the ferrule and handle) than we've seen before from Real Techniques.

To illustrate my point:

NEW Real Techniques Limited Edition Prep + Prime Set
(retail: $19.99)

Longtime reader and contributor Erica (@mzericalynn5) spotted one of the new limited edition Real Technique sets at her local HEB this week and kindly let me share this pic with you. If you haven't heard about this one yet, you'll notice that the brushes are quite different than other existing Real Techniques brushes. They don't have the metallic ferrules like other RT brushes, although the handle of the brush is still color coded keeping in line with the usual Real Techniques color coding.

Fun fact: all Real Techniques brushes (with the exception of the Bold Metals collection which has its own coding system) are coded the same way:

base tools = orange
eye tools = purple
finish tools = pink

But back to this new limited edition set! Here's more info (from the Real Techniques website):

5 TOOLS. FLAWLESS COMPLEXION.

limited edition prep + prime set has every tool you need to prep, prime, and apply foundation.
  • beauty spatula: flexible slanted tips retrieve moisturizers or creams from jars to make the most of your product
  • under eye reviver: stationary aluminum ball for cooling under eye massage. tip: use with favorite under eye cream
  • prep brush: firm brush head to evenly apply primers, moisturizers, serums, and/or masks
  • miracle complexion sponge: shaped to create the perfect base and build coverage using liquid foundation. tip: use damp for a dewy glow or dry for a full coverage
  • sponge stand: perfectly size for sponge storage and drying

This is a bit of a departure for RT, since they generally don't offer products that are to be used outside of makeup application. I love the idea of this spatula for getting the last bits out of foundation bottles, etc., and I'm curious about that sponge stand.

Some other new 2017 Real Techniques products:

5 TOOLS. ANY LIP LOOK.

This Limited Edition Prep + Color Lip Set ($19.99) has every brush you need to prep, line, color, and perfect your lips.
  • Lip Smoothing Brush: use in circular motions with your favorite lip balm to exfoliate your lips before color application
  • Lip Lining Brush: apply detailed lip art or add an ombré shaping effect to the outside corners of lips
  • Lip Brush: flat side and tapered tip smoothly blend color onto your lips
  • Lip Fan Brush: multi-functional fanned shape helps perfect outer edges of your lips + highlight your Cupid’s bow
  • Mirrored Brush Canister: for easy storage and easy touch ups on-the-go

Color me intrigued about that Lip Smoothing Brush! And a fan brush just for your cupid's bow? Fancy!

Now if you're like me, you may be wondering if Real Techniques is moving to make ALL of their brushes in this new style (black ferrule, color-coded handle). Well this IS the opposite of the usual RT brushes (color-coded ferrules with black handles), so maybe they're just switching them for new limited edition items? I really have no idea if RT is going to make ALL of their brushes in this new design later down the road, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Even more new Real Techniques products:

There are a ton of new Real Techniques products (brush sets, sponges, etc.) now on the Ulta site HERE (BOGO1/2OFF Real Techniques this week; ends 2/11). I'm only featuring three of the new products here, but there are more. So definitely check out that link.

  1. Ooh exciting! I love my RT brushes and sponge, so I'm on board for pretty much whatever they decide to make. I'm most intrigued by the fan brush, the lip exfoliating brush, and pretty much the entire orange colored set :)

  2. That prep and prime set looks fun! I'm curious about the sponge stand too. I just use a small ceramic ramekin/dip bowl i found at Target and it works perfectly! You can also use those disposable bathroom cups and they are a great size for it.

  4. You're welcome. 😊 I'm loving the lip set! Super cute!! I use a q-tip when retrieving moisturizer out of their jars, but that beauty spatula is a pretty neat idea. Loving all the beauty sponges as well.

  6. I love RT brushes and sponges. So Happy they r expanding the line adding new products. I wanted to mention speaking of makeup spatulas if I had seen the SPATTY at Walmart and some other places and online and the IG accts. I found mine at Walmart by the brushes section. I had come across it one nite very late online. It's a tiny pink spatula with a white handle. They had been on Shark Tank at one time or another. They also have one fornthe kitchen called the SPATTY DADDY THats for small jars in the kitchen. I don't have that one. I was going to order them online and never did. Then saw someone found one in Walmart. So I went and hotnine one. Price is a little over $5. It's made to get into foundation bottles for the last little bit. But u can use it on anything I'm sure that washes off of it. Just an FYI.
