On My Radar: New Haircare Products from L'Oreal

I'm still a little bitter about L'Oreal's decision to discontinue one of my favorite drugstore leave-in conditioners ever. You can still find it at Target and a few other places, but that's only because those retailers are probably getting rid of their existing inventory. But make no mistake--that product has officially been discontinued (proof).

But hey, I'm not letting that get in my way of being optimistic about L'Oreal's new products. In fact, I'm pretty excited about some of these 2017 products that are popping up at the drugstores right now. If you haven't seen these products yet, here's the scoop!

The new L'Oreal Hair Expert Extraordinary Clay line is geared toward those of us with dry ends and oily roots. I LOVE this, because that's exactly my hair type. This new line reminds me of the Dessange Clay Balancing Shampoo that was in a previous Target Beauty Box. I really liked that shampoo, but it's a bit expensive for drugstore (8.5 oz. for $9.99). So I'm hoping that this new L'Oreal line is similar since the shampoo is $5.99 for 24 oz. at Amazon.

The L'Oreal Hair Expert Extraordinary Clay line consists of four products (info from the L'Oreal website):
  • Hair Expert Extraordinary Clay Pre-Shampoo Mask ($6.99)
  • Deeply absorbs oil at the roots. Clay hair mask purifies the scalp. Ultra-fresh, lightweight hair.
  • Hair Expert Extraordinary Clay Conditioner ($4.99)
  • Up to 48HR Purified Roots & Hydrated Ends. Silicone-Free Clay Conditioner. Conditioner for Oily Roots and Dry Ends.
  • Hair Expert Extraordinary Clay Shampoo ($4.99)
  • Up to 48HR Purified Roots & Hydrated Ends. Silicone-free. Shampoo for Oily Roots and Dry Ends.
  • Hair Expert Extraordinary Clay Dry Shampoo ($6.99)
  • No visible residue. Instant purity plus freshness. For normal to oily hair.

This next new line is called L'Oreal Advanced Hairstyle Air Dry It and it's entirely devoted to heat-free styling. As someone who likes to avoid heat styling as much as humanly possible, this line feels like it was made for me. I am constantly on the hunt for styling products that don't require heat, and because of this I can tell you that this is a niche that is essentially untapped at the drugstore level. So I'm very excited to try these products.

The Advanced Hairstyle Air Dry It line contains three products (info from the L'Oreal website):
  • Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Wave Swept Spray ($4.99)
  • Natural, Effortless Style for Medium to Coarse Hair. Soft, Touchable Feel. 24HR Flexible Control.
  • Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Ruffled Body Mousse ($4.99)
  • Natural, Effortless Style for Wavy and Curly Hair. Soft, Touchable Feel. 24HR Flexible Control.
  • Advanced Hairstyle AIR DRY IT Undone Style Cream ($4.99)
  • Natural, Effortless Style for All Hair Types. Soft, Touchable Feel. 24HR Flexible Control.

Have you spotted any of these new products at your local drugstores yet? Thoughts?

  1. Oh yes! I'll be on the lookout for the air dry products. This is definitely something worth fimding. I use way too much heat to style my hair. Thanks for the heads up G.

  2. OK, BOTH of these lines sound right up my alley! oily scalp, dry ends and too lazy to heat style haha! Thanks for the heads up! I'll be checking my local Shopko - for some reason they seem to get all the new H&B releases AGES before target or walmart.

  4. My local Walgreens has these, but they're priced more around $8-9. I'm waiting until they have a sale and then diving in! As a girl with long wavy hair that's oily at the roots and dry at the ends, this is exactly what I need. Where have these products been all of my life!?!

    1. $8-$9? Oh heck no. Gotta wait for a sale and/or coupons! Lol.

And yes, by your description, we have the EXACT same hair! So I'm just as excited as you are! 🙌

  5. Im testing out the Extraordinary Clay line right. I got the pre-mask, shampoo and comditioner from Influenster. As a person who can NEVER go a day without washing her hair, I was pretty stoked for this line. Its definitely an improvement over regular shampoo and conditioner. I can go a few more hours the next day before oil starts to appear. But my hair will be super flat and by lunch my hair starts feeling weird and dirty. So I still cant go a full day without washing my hair, unless I plan on wearing my hair pulled back in a bun or pony tail. Its great tho for giving me a few more hours on Saturday morning to run errands before I start looking like a street bum.

  6. Oooh, thank you for posting about these! I'm interested in the mask and clay conditioner - unfortunately the air dry products have -cones and SLS (?!) in them, neither of which I can do. :(

  7. I'm now using the clay shampoo and I love it too, because it is too my hair oily roots to mid and dry ends. I live in Canada so we have cold dry air the only thing complaint I got with it, makes your hair really staticky. But as far as that it's a great shampoo specially if you deal with oily roots it really does help.

  8. Oh, G! I was just thinking today about the discontinued leave-in conditioner. I have a bit left and I was trying to remember what alternatives you recommended (I saved your suggestions on my computer... before it died. Grrrr!).

I saw on L'Oreal's website that they have a 10-in-1 elixir that is recommended as an alternative to the 8-in-1. However, when I searched using my zip code, supposedly no stores carry it around me.

I'm sort of curious about these air dry products, especially for the summer months. If you try any of these products, I hope you'll write a review for us.

  9. I have been using the wave swept spray for the last week. Got it at Walgreens and I wash, spray, braid my hair and let it air dry. I have non frizzy waves until next wash. I would recommend.

  10. The Undone Style Cream sounds like the Bumble & Bumble Don't Blow It cream. If it is, here's a tip - do one thing to style it and then don't touch it. Like if you scrunch your hair, then just do the scrunch and then no more touching. I've seen the Bb one get bad reviews because people try to do too much with it and their hair goes crazy. It's a very simple product meant for very simple style.

I'd like to try the L'Oreal one when my Bb one is out, but that's a long way down the road.

  11. The styling cream from the air dry line sounds a lot like the Bumble and Bumble Don't Blow It styling cream. I can't wait to try both of these lines- they sound like they would be perfect for my hair type which is exactly like yours G. Thanks for the heads up!

  14. The clay line sounds like a no go for me, but will be interested in trying the Air Dry It line! I would love to ditch the blow dryer more often!

  15. Ohhh I'm digging both of these! I have the same issue with oily roots but super dry ends. Can't wait to give this a try! Thanks for sharing G :)

  16. Oily roots and dry ends! That's me!! I haven't spotted them yet but I look forward to trying it out. I blow dry my hair in the colder months but I air dry in the warmer. Perfect! Thanks for the heads up!!!

  17. I picked up the Extraordinary Clay shampoo and conditioner a few weeks back at Walmart. Was picking up some holiday gifts and supplies and ran across an end cap display. It was definitely an impulse buy, but I have been pretty satisfied with it. I like the scent and I think it does what it claims for the most part. My hair felt super soft and fresh. I wonder how the Air Dry It spray will work on someone's hair like my own (fine with wavy curls and lots of frizz) versus the mousse and cream. I usually avoid them.

  20. Hey, I found the Air Dry It Ruffled Body Mousse at a local Walgreens and picked up a can. It's GREAT stuff. Has enough hold to eliminate all frizz but my hair was also not crunchy. I'm a product junkie and a mousse this good is hard to come by. I went back and got their last can so now I have two - I see a couple of other stores in my area (10 mile radius) that supposedly have it but can't find it ANYWHERE online.

I am hoping that it's so new it's just not completely "out" yet and will be everywhere soon so I can stock up since I have thick hair and have to use a lot of whatever it is I'm into at the time.

    Shorter: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED MOUSSE!
