If you follow me on Twitter or receive my text alerts via Twitter, then you may have noticed that for the last several weeks, whenever I share a link to my blog via Twitter, a message like this may pop up when you click that link to go to my blog:
I am unclear as to why this is happening, but I can tell you that my blog IS safe. I check the safety of my blog every single morning (see Google Transparency Report results at the top of this blog--you can also check for yourself here). You can also see the results of a Norton check HERE and an AVG check HERE.
I apologize if you're getting this message. I have filed help desk tickets with Twitter and have received no response after several weeks. I have asked around to fellow blogging friends (none of which are having this issue). But I HAVE noticed that other websites are having this issue (plenty of help requests in the Developer Forum) and some have had the issue for longer than I have.
After trying to troubleshoot this on my own for weeks now (please believe me, I have considered and addressed every possibility known to man), I did see that per the Twitter rules, Twitter may consider an account as spam "if your updates consist mainly of links, and not personal updates". This was something I was unaware of, since I have been using Twitter since 2009 to promote my blog and link to my blog and I have never had this "warning" before. IF this is why my tweets are now being flagged as "unsafe" then moving forward, I need to tweet without linking to my blog.
SO PLEASE NOTE: if you receive my text message alerts via Twitter, moving forward I am no longer going to tweet links to my blog. I will tell you when a new post is live, but I will not be tweeting the actual link. You will have to go to my blog directly by pulling up my homepage on your browser. Please please know that I am looking into using a dedicated text alert service (one that I will pay for) and once I have that ironed out, which will hopefully be very soon, I will let you know. At that point, you'll be able to subscribe to that service and receive my text alerts, WITH LINKS, delivered right to your phone as before.
Thanks so much for your patience and understanding.
I am ok either way...I am not worried about unsafe. They say that about Yahoo and it's not unsafe so if you choose not post the link I'll be fine or if you put it in I'll be fine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update, G. Just a simple tweet would be awesome and we can go straight to the blog. Before I subscribed to your twitter text updates, I had notifications for your IG posts and that worked great too! Thanks for all you do for us!
ReplyDeleteNo problem G. I just click the continue button on the twitter misdirected page...I'd follow you to the moon if necessary...
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you are still having issues! Well I will still be eagerly awaiting all your posts and just clicking the favorite link in my browser!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you are having this issue. I use webroot and your site is never flagged.
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing, what a pain! Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteI really don't mind the extra step of clicking through the warning. It's a lot less steps on my phone than using a browser. But, I appreciate your posts any way I can get them!
ReplyDeleteThx for the update!
ReplyDeleteThanks, G! I have earmarked your blog on safari so I can just refresh it daily:).
ReplyDeleteKeep the links. I use them. All ppl have to do is click continue at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to jump through any hoops to get to your site! I love to be able to get notifications of your posts. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to keep us beauty junkies one step ahead of the rest.
ReplyDeleteI must have missed a post if it said others had been having issues with your text alerts. I used to be subscribed to your text alerts but several months ago I click on the link that was sent in one of the text and BAM was hit with something on our phone (saying it was a virus) which stayed for a LONG time. Thank goodness it finally went away but it took a long while. We unsubscribed to text service right away after that. Still follow you on Instagram and through email. Will look forward to reading about the new service coming up. Thanks
ReplyDeleteYou're good with me, Girlfriend!
ReplyDeleteSorry for that annoying issue!
ReplyDeleteThanks, G, and I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. I was never able to get the Twitter alerts to work consistently, so I set up an Instagram alert instead, and it works like a charm.
