Maybelline Volum' Express The Colossal Chaotic Lash Mascara
(retail: $5.89 at Bed Bath & Beyond)
Reader @samanthann92 on Twitter spotted the above display at her local BBB last week and kindly shared this pic.
As I was working on this post, reader @cutetnkrbelle on Instagram shared this pic--she spotted this display at CVS this week:

Now in case you didn't get a good look at the model, here's an enlarged photo:

Call me old-fashioned, but I just can't imagine a situation where I would actually try to get my lashes this clumpy and "chaotic." But I'm guessing I'm not the target demographic for this concept, so moving on:

The key to getting "chaotic" lashes is this special brush.

So you apply the mascara using the flat part of the brush, and then you use the bent tip to "tease across to create lash chaos."
Guys, I just don't know about this one. I LOVE me some Volum' Express The Colossal Mascaras (seriously, I love multiple formulas within this family) but I just don't know if I can get on board the intentionally thick, clumpy and "chaotic" train. How about you?
Thanks so much, Samantha Ann and @cutetnkrbelle, for the great sightings and pics!
HAHA omg, I don't know if I can get on board with this one. :P
ReplyDeleteI love the packaging of this one, but do not want my lashes looking like that! I want to know what it looks like if you don't 'tease'!
ReplyDeletexteeener on Youtube made a video about it the other day. Her's looked pretty normal and I don't think she did the sideways thing.
Deletegross! I would not like to be on board with this either. It looks like ugly messy lashes. Like you slept on them with macara, woke up and added more mascara. But hey, to each their own :)
ReplyDeleteWell at least if I mess up on my mascara and it comes out all clumpy, I can claim it was intentional. 😱
ReplyDeleteI burst out laughing when I saw these pictures! That looks more like a reallllly bad mascara today vs. a sexy mess. I'm showing my age a bit, but it reminds me of a T-shirt I had in 1987 that had makeup blobs on the front of it with the caption "I ran into Tammy Faye at the mall."
ReplyDeleteUm... I'm definitely thinking I'll pass on this mascara.
Yes! My initial reaction was that this reminds me of Tammy Faye! I am definitely not on board with this. I like chaos, but at my age, it has to be controlled chaos ;)
DeleteYes! Preplanned, well-anticipated, perfectly orchestrated chaos! Preferably not on my eyelashes!
DeleteUmmmm noooooo. Such a strange marketing campaign...but I'm assuming I'm wayyyy outside of this target demo too (chaos is not something that is welcome to me!).
ReplyDeleteI would never use this mascara as advertised, but I really like the shape of the brush! It looks like you could use the "teaser" end to get corners and the lower lash line really nicely.
ReplyDeleteYea. No. I'm all about full, seperated lashes. This would make your lashes look sparse IRL. No thanks. The model for sure has on false to thicken that mess up
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! Chaos and beauty don't seem to be terms I'd normally link together!
ReplyDeleteI just had to check my calendar to make sure it wasn't April Fools day. The first thing I noticed was the models lashes and it made me cringe. Tease your lashes.... what!?! No.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize looking hungover was a thing now... Lol. Who decided this campaign was a good idea?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I gave up eye chaos in my early 20's. If it happens now, it's probably an accident.
ReplyDelete"for a perfectly sexy mess!" that is HILARIOUS. um no thanks. still laughing.
ReplyDeletethanks for the tip Maybelline! whenever my makeup is smeared and somebody points it out I'll make sure to let them know I'm going for the chaos look lol!
ReplyDeleteI saw the add and couldnt understand why in the world they posted such an unattractive picture. NOPE skipping that!
ReplyDeleteBlech!
ReplyDeleteThis totally looks inspired from Natasha Lyonne's OTNB character, Nicky. She rocks crazy lashes in every episode and is actually called out for her mascara (they sell it in the commissary✅)
ReplyDeleteNO. just NO
ReplyDeleteI've been using this the past day or two and I have to say, I like the length it gives my lashes...I don't use it the way they suggest, and make a mess out of my lashes (why would anyone do that??) I just do my normal application method and the brush gives really nice separation. I'm liking it so far!
ReplyDeleteSaw the display over a week ago at Target. Wasn't sure if that was news or not tho. Meant to post about it and forgot since I was going on vacation.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's hilarious. XD Definitely not the look I want.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness... I would never try to get the look on the model- but I suppose some people would go for it!
ReplyDeleteI'm good! I've seen a few reviews on YouTube and it's not a fan favorite. Annndddd.... It does make your Lashes look a hot chaotic mess, just like the display pic. Not for me personally.
ReplyDeleteThe model's pic reminds me of Twiggy
ReplyDeleteAs is usually the case - I'll be the cheese that stands a alone on this. I like it, and would love to try it. I think it's fun and it's always good for brands to try new things and help push the makeup envelope (even if the trend or idea doesn't stick around). Look at the Loreal Miss Manga mascara - that's one of my favorites - but I would have never expected it from them.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Samantha. It looks like fun!
