Review & Swatches: Sinful Colors Halloween 2014 Limited Edition Glitters in Mystery Moonshine and Cauldron Couture

As we all know, Sinful Colors nail polishes are on sale this week at Walgreens for $0.99 each (now through 9/20), so I wanted to show you some swatches of the two Halloween 2014 shades I purchased (there are a total three new limited edition Halloween shades this year, which you can view here). Also, if you can't find this display at your Walgreens, it's also popping up at Target. I found the display in the Halloween candy aisle at my Target last weekend, which is some evil, yet genius, marketing if you ask me.

Sinful Colors Halloween 2014 Limited Edition Glitters
(retail: $1.99; on sale for $0.99 each through 9/20 at Walgreens)

Mystery Moonshine
(one coat over Sally Hansen Plum Luck)

Mystery Moonshine is an all-shard glitter (absolutely no hex glitters) in a clear base. I realize that I could have chosen a lighter base color to better show you what's going on here, but I LOVE this polish over darker plums and purples. The shards are not too large, jagged or sharp, and after wearing the combo above for three days, I only felt one tiny point of one shard "burst" through my top coat. No bad, right? Also, this one was really easy to apply. The clear base isn't too thick or watery, but you do have to push the glitters around a tiny bit with your brush for better placement. Overall, this one was way better than I expected it to be, and it's even prettier in person. Dry-time was average, by the way, even in extreme heat (it was 100+ degrees when I applied this).

Cauldron Couture
(one coat over Sinful Colors Curry Up)

Cauldron Couture contains green metallic shards and micro, small, medium and large black matte hexes. Any shimmer that you see above is actually from my base color (click here for swatches of Sinful Colors Curry Up). This one was a little more challenging to apply since the clear base is a bit thick and goopy. You have to push the glitter around quite a bit with your brush for placement, but I didn't have any issues with picking up glitter from the bottle. This did take a little longer to dry, but still not too long, all things considered.

Both of these polishes are a little bit bumpy to the touch after they dry, so I would consider applying one to two coats of a good, thick, top coat just to smooth things out. To see reader swatches of the third glitter in the Halloween 2014 collection called Spatter Spell, CLICK HERE

Did you pick up any of these glitters this week? I'd love to hear from you!

  1. I snagged the three LE glitters during the .99 sale and I looove them, especially Mystery Moonshine. I just wish its base were a little less tinted. I layered it over white on a swatch stick and it definitely has a berry tint to it, but it's very fun over so many colors. I love that they lay flat too, which can't be said for a lot of pricier shard glitter toppers.

  2. Bought all three of the new Sinfuls. Mystery Moonshine is my favorite. I like what you did here. I think I'll probably try it over black.

  3. So I was on the fence about Mystery Moonshine but now I think I want it. The indecision was because of shards. But if they lay flat I am in. The colors are pretty. Since I have to go to Walgreen's tomorrow to buy tights (yes I said tights) I will get it for a buck! Ps G., I have 2 blankets on the bed tonight! Cold here I would happily trade!

  4. Both are really pretty! They're great for Halloween themed manicures, but I can also picture them working well during for other manicures. For instance, I could imagine Cauldron Spell being a great glitter for a Christmas look, or Mystery Moonshine adding a nice accent to a Mardi Gras look!

  9. This week... For 3 days I wore Sally Hansen Trouble Maker (plummy purple) under Sinful Colors Mystery Moonshine... Thanks to the above blog post.. and loved it.

Then yesterday I topped it with a limited edition purple jelly from Wet n Wild, Deception... and OMG I was in awe all day.

I might mattify it tonight. Woo, live large!

  10. I found a few more. They are all Sinful Colors and I found 2 at Walgreens and one at Rite Aid. The first 2 are Halloween Colors. They are Glow in the Dark and the other is Orange and Black and is called Splatter Spell. The third is a limited edition one for Christmas and its called Holiday Rebel. All are glitter cept the Glow in the Dark one. When I found the Christmas one there was only one.
