Swatches: Wet n Wild Summer 2014 Limited Edition All Access Beauty Megalast Nail Color Collection

NOTE: For my swatches of the Bronzers & Blushes that are also part of the Wet n Wild Summer 2014 Collection, please click HERE.

The Wet n Wild Summer 2014 Limited Edition Megalast Collection is now starting to pop up in stores (click here to see what the display looks like) and I will definitely create a sightings map here on the blog to help us track sightings of this one!

I received this collection from Wet n Wild and when I opened the package, I wanted to start swatching immediately. There's something about a rainbow of bright colors that's so inviting! So let's take a look:

Wet n Wild Summer 2014 Limited Edition All Access Beauty Megalast Nail Color Collection
(retail: $1.99 each, 0.45 oz)

The theme for this collection is summer musical festivals (get it? "all access"?) so all of the shade names have a Cochella-esque vibe to them.

34299 Trippin' on the Boardwalk
(Two coats, no top coat)

Trippin' on the Boardwalk is a cool-toned lavender creme. The first coat had a neon-like feel to it (very sheer and it dried to a semi-matte finish). The second coat evened things about a bit but if you look above, you can see that I probably should have applied a third coat for perfect opacity. Since the first coat was so sheer, I thought I might be able to do a jelly sandwich with this one.

But no:

 photo 031-2.jpg

As you can see, this polish is actually too opaque to do a jelly sandwich (I used Nanacoco Snowflakes for this jelly sandwich, which contains all matte white glitters). So I think this one's best on its own, with three coats. No issues with this one (aside from the sheerness) but it does dry to semi-matte finish so you'll definitely need a good top coat (unless you like the semi-matte look). Dry time was very good on all three coats.

34300 Beat of a Generation
(Two coats, no top coat)

Beat of a Generation is a neutral-toned fuchsia jelly-creme (aka: crelly). This color might appear warmer on certain monitors but it's more neutral in person--not too warm and not too cool. This was practically a one-coater but I always apply at least two coats for my swatches. Perfect application with no issues and this dries to a nice shiny finish.

 photo 005-14.jpg
34301 Contact High
(Three coats, no top coat)

Contact high is bright primary-color-green. It behaves like a standard neon (it's sheer but buildable and dries to a semi-matte finish) but it's actually a very nice jelly!

So naturally I had to try a jelly sandwich with it:

three coats Contact High

one more coat of Contact High

I love this! Unlike some other neon-ish greens I own, which are so sheer they need at least five coats for decent opacity, this one's pretty darned opaque at just three coats (if you're familiar with neon-ish greens, you know that's impressive!). No issues aside from the sheerness, and all coats dried very quickly.

 photo 017a.jpg
34302 A Venice Day
(Three coats, no top coat)

A Venice Day is a number-two-pencil-yellow crelly. After three coats, I still had some light streaking with this one, so I would suggest applying a white creme base coat first, just to cut down on the number of coats you'll have to use. Aside from the sheerness, I had no issues and this polish dries at a normal rate to a shiny finish.

 photo 033.jpg
34303 Love Me Some Muscles
(Three coats, no top coat)

I apologize if this photo looks a little grainy but my camera hates corals and it loves to distort them! Love Me Some Muscles is a cantaloupe creme that has a little bit of dustiness to it. I think this one's less pink than Wet n Wild Tropicale, but lighter and more orange than Wet n Wild Heatwave (but I'd have to do some swatch comparisons to confirm). It's sheer on the first two coats but it builds to a nice opacity on the third coat. No issues with application--it dries at a normal rate and to a shiny finish.

 photo 015-10.jpg
34304 Coast to Coast
(Two coats, no top coat)

Coast to Coast is a lovely, intense blue with not-so-hidden shimmer. The shimmer is subtle (not frosty at all) but you don't have to be out in full sunlight to see it. I absolutely LOVE this blue and if you don't already have anything similar in your stash, I think you need this one. It's almost a one-coater, no application issues, and it dries quickly to a shiny finish.

Additional thoughts:

This collection really surprised me. Judging from the bottles, I thought these would all be standard cremes (not that there's anything wrong with that!) but I didn't expect to find a lovely green jelly hiding out here, as well as a show-stopping blue with subtle shimmer. Also, NONE of these polishes stained my nails after removal (yay!). If you could only get one polish from this collection, I would choose Contact High (green) because it's kind of rare to find a bright, neon-ish green jelly that only requires three coats for good opacity. But I also would suggest picking up Coast to Coast--it has reawakened my love of blues (I was almost "over" them, which is crazy, right?).

Have you spotted the Summer 2014 Megalasts in your area yet? Again, these are now starting to pop up in stores, and I'll be creating a sightings map very soon to help us track sightings of the display.

  1. Thanks for the great swatches! I love every single one of those. I am wondering if the sheers will be good for nail art like the leadlight stamping technique that is hot right now. I am trying to snatch up all the jelly/sheers I can. I love the Megalast polishes.

    1. You're so welcome! I don't know if the sheer shades would be good for leadlighting (I haven't actually tried that technique yet... only seen tutorials) but I'd love to know what you think if you try it with these! :)

  2. A few of these look very similar to some in the permanent line. IE On a Trip comparable to Trippin' On The Boardwalk. Tropicalia to Love Me Some Muscles. Eh either was I will be grabbing all of these because they're my favoriteeee nail polish formula. Thanks for the great swatches G!!

    1. You're welcome!!

I actually describe the difference between Love Me Some Muscles and Tropicalia in my post above (but I just noticed that I misspelled it...gotta fix that!). And On A Trip is noticeably darker than Trippin on the Boardwalk. Hope that helps!

    1. I wish my pic was truer to life but my camera always distorts pinks. :( I hope you love it when you see it in person! :)

    2. Me too w/the pink closely followed by the blue. Soooooo glad you swatches these asap G, they were going to get a complete pass from me until now! Wish I could do greens like that so will just have to admire on others :) I am surprised I don't care for the purple now, that was the only one remotely interesting if I was to pick one, now its two others!

  5. Sorry G., but I gotta disagree...imo Trippin'On The Boardwalk made a lovely jelly sam. Maybe people on a technicality kick would point out that it cannot be called a jelly sam since it is not a true jelly, but whatever the name I like it! I was thinking befire I even saw the name on that one (TOTB) I thought it looked alot like On A Trip, but I guess this looks like it may lean a bit warmer in comparison right? I kinda want that blue, and the yellow.

    1. Glad you like it! I just don't like it because you can't really see the glitter clearly...in person it looks muddy and on one of my fingers you could BARELY tell there was glitter underneath at all.

On A Trip is definitely darker! :)

  6. OMG I am going to get all of them! Especially if walgreens has 40 percent off. That would make them$1.20 because I believe they are regular $2.0

    1. Definitely ask them to check the prices first because sometimes Walgreens doesn't apply their weekly sales to limited edition collections. I hate that, but it seems to happen sometimes with them. :(

Thank you SO much for the great pics. WNW needs to start giving you a kickback on all these polishes they sell because of you...:D

  20. I'm going to be the immature one among the group, but I'm surprised WNW got away with the name Contact High! It made me chuckle.

  29. Slightly of topic - I searched for this everywhere and can't find the answer anywhere. Is anyone else having a hard time finding the Wet and Wild Megalast in black? I can't recall it's name but I can't find it ANYWHERE. All they displays are missing the spot where it would go. Is it discontinued? Black is a basic it should never be seasonal!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Just found these at my local CVS and bought the entire collection!

  31. @Red Pita Maybe Lights Out (at Dollar General - I think it was discontinued) The Summer 2014 colors I found these in San Antonio (HEB Plus) Contact High (green) is a duplicate of Lean and Green (found at Dollar General)

  32. I have to say that Coast to Coast is now my all time favorite blue polish! It's amazing, and that's putting it lightly! So in love...

  33. Oh my gosh. I need Contact High and Coast to Coast. Also, let's talk about how there's actually a drugstore nail polish called "Contact High". And here I thought Spoiled My Silicone Popped or whatever and 2 Weeks Sober were scandalous enough.

  34. Finally Found them in Milwaukee, WI @ Walgreens 7171 North Good Hope posted on your IG Page

  35. No sign of these polishes yet in my area. I'm so bummed. I want them all. I been to 6 or 7 walgreens and cvs combined and nothing. I guess Florida is slow.

  40. (continued) I even ordered the blue on eBay (shame on me). It was driving me nuts to miss out on these summer shades in the spring! Lo and behold on June 26th I see the entire display in my neighborhood Rite Aid in Brooklyn. Lesson learned: it pays to be patient!
