From the Vintage Vault

It's time again to go deep into my stash for another installment of From the Vintage Vault...

For new readers, this is a series I created as a sort of "walk down memory lane" when it comes to cosmetics. If you like to reminisce about cosmetics from the past, you can check out all of my previous Vintage Vault posts here (be sure to click "older posts" when you get to the end of the page, for even more posts).

Today I'd like to show you an eyeshadow palette that I've been treasuring for about 13 years now...

Do you remember the old-style Dior quints?

To refresh your memory, this is what the Dior quints look like today:

Aaaah, memories! I fondly recall wanting this palette and stopping at nothing to get it for a bargain. I think I ended up paying about $35 for it on ebay, which was quite a lot of money for me in 2000 (it's still quite a lot of money for me today, especially for a 5-pan palette!). But I had heard great things about the electric blue and teal shades in this palette, so I "needed" it. I believe that, back in 2000, these quints retailed for about $45 or $50 (now they're $60).

As you can see, I did't use it much because, well, when I finally got it in my possession, I cherished it and didn't want to ruin it. Typical makeup junkie move, right?

I tried to find out exactly when this quint was discontinued, but the best I could come up with was this Makeup Alley review, where the reviewer refers to it as "vintage" back in 2004. So if it was vintage in 2004, I would imagine it was probably around for quite a while, and existed for at least a few years before I bought it in 2000.

Do you remember the old-style Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow Compacts? Did you have any of these back in the day?

    2. Is it the Princess Marchella Borghese with the vivid colors? They used to do the best jewel toned shadows. I lost all of my vintage palettes in Hurricane Katrina. I did cherish those. Shopping for cosmetics in the 80's was far more luxurious. The stores would go all out when there were special promotions. I still am a makeup addict that work cosmetics counters from the age of 17 until I was 30. Became an RN, BSN. I still freelance, it's in my blood. Cherish those palettes that is part of a Cosmetic Icon!
